Hello I just wanted to say thank you for so many interesting posts!! You have a really fun and captivating writing style and have made me really enjoy learning about trains so thank you!! Also if I may ask for a fun fact, is there anything you can tell me about the Orivesi railway station (the proper one, not the bullshit seisake in the centre)? I've lived right next to it for about six months now and I really like looking at all the different trains and locos that go past.
Glad to hear you've enjoyed my posts! It's been fun to write this stuff too, somewhat different from the subjects I usually write.
As it happens, I love architecture and station history! And I have the book Radan varrella by Jussi Iltanen at hand – it's a book about every single railway station in Finland, so I don't think I know something about every station. I just know where to find the information.
The Orivesi station was built in 1883. At the time the route was a part of the original Pohjanmaa line (which was routed through the east, via Haapamäki, for industrial needs). The station is still the original, a standard class IV station building for the Pohjanmaa line (likely designed by Knut Nylander, our first company architect). However, the station has been enlarged and otherwise rebuilt many times.

The reason why you have the station where it is and a bullshit seisake at the center is that back in the 1880s, stations were simply a lot larger than they are today: they catered not just to passengers but also freight (every single station was also a cargo station before the appearance of the motor car), and while a station nearer the actual center would have been more practical for passengers, the place where the station is was a better compromise overall.
In addition to the main Orivesi station, there was a smaller station named Oripohja nearer to the centre (closed down 1990), and a seisake named Parpola between Orivesi and Oripohja, which was open 1931-1955 and 1976-77. With the arrival of the Dm12 railbuses (I plan to write a detailed entry about them later on), Parpola was reopened, now renamed Orivesi Keskusta, in 2007.
