Pingplotter update not installing

#PINGPLOTTER UPDATE NOT INSTALLING INSTALL#
Run the test again to see if it was just a transient issue, but if it is the same then create a new ticket as that is the WG gateway at fault. This is what I showed support but they weren't convinced there was anything wrong server side. I just ran anotehr one which shows the spike at the final hop: Thanks Wasaabi - I'm honestly thinking of changing isp but I guess if there wasn't some prospect of it improving then I was reluctant to go through the hassle. This indicates that possibly Optus is not buying enough bandwidth and therefore gets sub-optimal routing and there isn't a lot you can do about that other than not being an Optus customer. My connection is on Telstra and also from Victoria and my route shares the same router you have at hop 17 but on mine is hop 12 and is about 100ms less than yours. It then jumps massively and although we can see Telstra Global at some points the other addresses are not getting resolved, but it would be safe to say they are on the same network, which is Telstra's international carriage service. Just from the latency numbers you can tell that up to hop 9 is in Australia. My options as I see it are to stop playing WoT (at least on the HK server), play on a hotspot (which means ping of about 300ms, and its relatively unstable), take up the premium support issue (not confident of that leading anywhere because it seems to be an issue starting along another company's infrastructure - maybe telstra?) or changing ISP (and not sure if that will make any difference if its just the same network that I'll be running along).Įdited by prince_machiavelli, 26 August 2022 - 02:09 PM. Thought I'd see if anyone here has any insights/experience/suggestions. Its was escalated but Optus has now referred me to a third party "premium support" company, who charge a minimum fee just to listen to what the problem is. I've raised the issue with my ISP (optus) and noone within optus has been unable to understand or provide any information about the issue. I've raised a support ticket with WG, they said its not a server issue. Sometimes, the first game I have will stay at 240ms, but then its back up to 420ms. The game is unplayable for me on the HK server. I've had a graph like this for the last couple of weeks (often with the final hop to WG server showing a jump of 200ish to 420ish, sometimes not, but ingame ping is consistently at around 420ms): Using pingplotter to check your latency and packet loss - Technical & Bug Reporting Section - World of Tanks official Asia Forums Start with post 1 in this thread and run pingplotter as per instructions there. I'm not IT savvy but i just don't know what to do next.Īny assistance would be greatly appreciated. I've contacted my ISP - No issues all fine
#PINGPLOTTER UPDATE NOT INSTALLING INSTALL#
I've uninstalled and done a fresh install of WoT - No good My rig has not changed in 2 years with no issues until 2 weeks ago.Įverything (internet, streaming services etc) other than WoT are working correctly. However the second the counter reaches 0 my ping skyrockets to 750-999 and everything in between and gameplay is near impossible or just futile. When selecting HK or AU server generally it states HK 350+ and AU 25-35 and this is the same on the load screen prior to game play. I'm on the east coast of Oz (SEQld) and in the last 2 weeks my ping is through the roof (750-999). I'm not a gamer but have enjoyed WoT on and off for the better part of 5 years under various names. Could someone please help me interpret my pingplotter?

New Way to Communicate using Esim
Nowadays, technology changes everything they put, introduce, develop, and change all the traditional way into the modern way. It is really good when you see that in different aspects of life, and sometimes you will ask. What will happen if we still use the traditional way? And what will happen to our life, if we still use letters for communication? What will happen if we only have telephones to receive and make calls to our relatives? These are the questions of some individuals who see technology changing everything.
Today, we already have an eSim simply means embedded sim card. There are no physical SIM cards that being involved and no physical swapping over required by you. It just composes and needs to be supported by the network and enabled by the carriers who have eSIM networks. This is composed via a small chip inside of our smartphones, they also rewritable meaning you can decide who are you want to be the operator with a simple phone call. eSIM is backed by the GSMA, the association of mobile networks and that organization has defined the standard for eSIM worldwide.
How to activate an eSim
We have difference kinds of smartphones; we have android and iPhone. Basically, e-Sim are built into our phones, and it has different features. Here are ways to activate e-Sim to your phone.
Android: - Go to the settings of your phone, search and tap connections or network and internet - Choose Mobile network or to others its sim card manager - Tap add mobile plan, or you can also see download sim card - Just follow those instructions displayed on your screen and you can see QR code then scan it when prompted.
All the name on the settings is depending on the type of smartphone's brand that you have. But basically, they're all the same.
iPhone: - Just open your camera app - Scan the QR code - Select Cellular Data Detected - Follow the instructions that shown on your display and confirm for addition.
Providers offers eSIM
Telstra - they provide eSIM to phone, tablets, windows PCs and wearables. Existing customers with an eSIM device can use their MY Telstra app so they can easily request swap to eSIM. However, new customers need to go to store to get a QR code and get their eSIM
Optus - they provide esIM to phones and wearables. Optus number Share works with 4G Apple watches and Samsung wearables unlike Telstra it is only available on postpaid plans.
Vodafone - they too support phones and wearables but including tablets. They offer eSIM powered plans for those two. Vodafone customers with eSIM will receive a QR code via email with confirmation code as well sent to their phone. By scanning the QR code it will add the eSIM to any compatible devices.
Benefits of e-Sim
- It's easy to switch you from another mobile network, you don't need to buy a new SIM, and wait to arrive. You can easily switch it using phone and internet.
- It will less to use of your physical phone space because you don't need ejector tool.
- Time saving for you and convenient add new devices to their plans without going to store.
- New opportunities to market, due to the technology it helps to gain more opportunities in other companies.
- It easy to manage it can be delivered streamlined user of managing cellular connectivity. Profiles for each user can also be personalized and data plans can be adjusted and optimized, via e-SIM remote management tools.
- Digital Sim cards can eliminate the need for a SIM tray, making the possibility of even thinner phones an option in the future more pocket space, they can lead to smaller connectable devices as well, like smartwatches, since they'll no longer need to fit a physical SIM card.
- Get an environmental benefit as physical SIM cards wouldn't have to be created and mailed. That means less SIM cards being thrown away so we can keep the Earth mint green.
To sum up, it is good to try new things like this. It’s convenient for us and does not cost you a lot. You just go to the menu and take a photo of a QR code to change your carrier or service by not going to the store for replacement on your sim. But there is one important that you need to remember to ensure its huge potential is fully realized. Constant to educate stakeholders and end-users on the significant connectivity, flexibility, and security benefits that e-sim can deliver will be essential to driving embracing and promoting sustained growth.

Now more than ever you need to cover phone and laptop cameras, says security expert
Whether you use Zoom, Skype or Microsoft Teams, the webcam on your home PC or laptop device has probably never been as active as it is during this pandemic.
Most of us have a camera built into our phone, tablet, laptop, or a desktop webcam we use for work, study or virtual socialising.
Unfortunately, this privilege can leave us vulnerable to an online attack known as camfecting. This is when hackers take control of your webcam remotely. They do this by disabling the “on” light which usually indicates the camera is active – so victims are none the wiser.
Many of our device cameras remain unsecured. In fact, research has suggested globally there are more than 15,000 web camera devices (including in homes and businesses) readily accessible to hackers, without even needing to be hacked.
Take a tip from Mark Zuckerberg
When your laptop is turned off its webcam can’t be activated. However, many of us keep our laptops in hibernation or sleep mode (which are different). In this case, the device can be woken by a cybercriminal, and the camera turned on. Even Mark Zuckerberg has admitted he covers his webcam and masks his microphone.
The number of recorded instances of image captured through unauthorised webcam access is relatively low. This is because most attacks happen without the user ever realising they’ve been compromised. Thus, these attacks go unaccounted for.
It’s important to consider why someone would choose to hack into your home device. It’s unlikely an attacker will capture images of you for personal blackmail, or their own creepy exploits. While these instances do eventuate, the majority of illicit webcam access is related to gathering information for financial gain.
Say cheese!
Cybercriminals frequently attempt tricking people into believing they’ve been caught by a webcam hack. Everyday there are thousands of spam emails sent in a bid to convince users they’ve been “caught” on camera. But why?
Shaming people for “inappropriate” webcam use in this way is a scam, one which generates considerable ransom success. Many victims pay up in fear of being publicly exposed.
Most genuine webcam hacks are targeted attacks to gather restricted information. They often involve tech-savvy corporate groups carrying out intelligence gathering and covert image capturing. Some hacks are acts of corporate espionage, while others are the business of government intelligence agencies.
There are two common acquisition techniques used in camfecting attacks. The first is known as an RAT (Remote Administration Tool) and the second takes place through false “remote tech support” offered by malicious people.
Genuine remote tech support usually comes from your retail service provider (such as Telstra or Optus). We trust our authorised tech support people, but you shouldn’t extend that trust to a “friend” you hardly know offering to use their own remote support software to “help you” with a problem.
An example of an RAT is a Trojan virus delivered through email. This gives hackers internal control of a device.
Total access
When a Trojan virus infects a device, it’s not just the webcam that is remotely accessed, it’s the whole computer. This means access to files, photos, banking and a range of data.
The ability to install a RAT has been around for several years. In 2015, a popular RAT could be purchased on the internet for just US $40. The malware (harmful software) can be deployed via an email, attachment, or flash drive.
Those wanting to learn how to use such tools need look no further than YouTube, which has many tutorials. It has never been easier for hackers.
Webcams are everywhere
Our homes are getting “smarter” each year. In 2018, the average Australian household reportedly had 17 connected devices.
Let’s say there’s one or two laptops, three or four mobile phones and tablets, a home security camera system and a smart TV with a built-in camera for facial recognition.
Add a remote video doorbell, a talking doll named My Friend Cayla, the drone helicopter you got for Christmas, and the robot toy that follows you around the house – and it’s possible your household has more than 20 IP accessible cameras.
To better understand your vulnerabilities you can try a product like Shodan. This search engine allows you to identify which of your devices can be seen by others through an internet connection.
Practise ‘cyberhygiene’ at home
Placing a piece of black tape over a camera is one simple low-tech solution for webcam hacking. Turning your laptop or desktop computer off when not in use is also a good idea. Don’t let a device’s hibernation, sleep or low power mode lure you into a false sense of safety.
At work you may have firewalls, antivirus, and intrusion detection systems provided by your company. Such protections are void for most of us when working from home. “Cyberhygiene” practices will help secure you from potential attacks.
Always use secure passwords, and avoid recycling old ones with added numbers such as “Richmond2019”, or “Manutd2020”. Also, make sure your antivirus and operating system software is regularly updated.
Most of all, use common sense. Don’t share your password (including your home wifi password), don’t click suspicious links, and routinely clear your devices of unnecessary apps.
When it comes to using webcams, you may wonder if you’re ever completely safe. This is hard to know – but rest assured there are steps you can take to give yourself a better chance.

NBN fixed-wireless designed for 512kbps committed rate, then streaming happened
It was a different world in 2009 when then-Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and his Communications Minister Stephen Conroy unveiled the National Broadband Network (NBN), and along with purchasing a satellite that was incapable of handling phone calls, another assumption has returned to haunt the company.
Responding to Questions on Notice (QoN) to the Inquiry into the rollout of the NBN in rural and regional areas by the Joint Standing Committee on the National Broadband Network, NBN revealed how maths from a decade ago no longer matches modern internet usage.
“The original design of the fixed-wireless network envisaged a 512kbps committed information rate. This was deemed appropriate in a pre-video streaming world, because of the bursting nature of user browsing or discrete downloads (for example of an image or document),” NBN said.
“The statistical models that were employed in network design predicted a good experience for a large number of people on a cell, simply because it was unlikely that a high number of users would be bursting at exactly the same time.
“Sustained applications such as video streaming changed the models, and NBN has responded by doubling capacity on the network.”
The change in usage was cited by NBN as a reason to kill off its plans to offer a 100Mbps speed tier on fixed-wireless, telling the Joint Standing Committee that the only way to keep “an acceptable use experience” for users and offer higher speeds was with substantial investment in the network.
“It would likely cost in excess of AU$1 billion to provide a service that we would expect to be used by less than 1.4 percent of active fixed-wireless premises,” the company said.
“For clarity, that is only around 5,000 of the approximately 410,000 active fixed-wireless premises expected, and less than 0.1 percent of the 8 million active premises we will have across the nation.”
Former NBN CEO Bill Morrow said in May that as well as being prohibitively expensive, there was insufficient demand for 100Mbps plans.
“We can look at where we have fibre, we don’t have 20 percent take-up of 100Mbps in fibre. So I would not say there is a mass-market demand for 100Mbps service today,” he said.
“It’s not only the level of demand, but the price that consumers are willing to pay.”
Responding to concerns from Labor senators that the abandoning of 100Mbps plans on fixed-wireless amounted to a digital divide, Morrow said one could argue a new divide exists between those on fixed-line, and fixed-wireless and satellite connections.
“I think we have to acknowledge that … the vast land is going to drive economics that will likely mean the regional end users using broadband over this network are likely never to see the kind of bandwidth capability that will be coming to a city centre,” he said.
“You can already see it today: We have over 40 percent of the fixed-line network that can offer 1Gbps speeds, you don’t see that in the regional areas, and I can’t imagine a time frame where that necessarily will be available to all of those people in the regional areas.
“Regional Australia had near nothing with broadband access … the divide has actually closed because this is a universal access of everybody having at least 25Mbps.”
NBN detailed in another QoN that its shift to DOCSIS 3.1 is set to cost AU$80 million.
“These costs are, however, more than offset by ongoing capacity management benefits, including fewer HFC node splits and operational benefits of spectral efficiency,” NBN said.
Speaking earlier in the week, NBN chair Ziggy Switkowski attempted to hose down calls for a write-down of the network.
“The ability to properly value this asset is probably not going to be available to us until the 2020s,” Switkowski said. “Yes, I can rule out a write-down — this is my personal view.
Switkowski said write-downs are not within the purview of management or government, and are driven by accounting rules.
“I could certainly generate, and do generate, figures around AU$50 billion for this company in the 2020s,” he added.

Couple blames dark web after IDs were stolen to order smartphones

Tumblr media
Photo: Up to 10 recent-model phones were allegedly ordered online. (ABC Radio Adelaide: Malcolm Sutton) The first sign that Jason and Dianne (not their real names) had their identities stolen was when a letter arrived at their previous address stating they had successfully ordered a new service. The alleged thief had received nearly 10 smartphones in their names through Virgin, Telstra, Optus, Vodafone and Woolworths Mobile, from where he also successfully ordered a Woolworths credit card. "The thing is, we hadn't actually made any requests for a new service and I immediately thought it was suspicious because I work in IT and I know how this gear works," Jason of South Australia said. "That was the first of a number of similar letters we received saying that somebody had tried to get a service in our account." The man also allegedly ordered two packets of 30 sim cards and tried to order credit cards through the financial institutions Latitude and HSBC but was not successful. He did, however, manage to give false email and postal addresses, and even had the couple's mail redirected through Australia Post, which notified them by sending a letter stating their mail had been "redirected as requested". Police arrested an Adelaide man during April and charged him with more than 20 counts of misuse of personal information and he was refused bail. Police at the time said property relating to the deception was recovered and investigations were continuing. Jason believed their information might have been sourced from the dark web along with the names and details of other people. "I work in IT and keep up with the latest developments, particularly in security because that's one of my jobs, and from what I hear you can quite easily get IDs off the dark web," he said. "It's a bit like eBay, so these sellers get ratings, and if you're a good seller of IDs that are one-use only, you can get good money for them. "But it doesn't cost you a lot of money to get IDs off the dark web tens of dollars per ID, not hundreds of dollars." Jason said the man had their names, dates of birth, addresses and driver's licence numbers but did not have their photo IDs. Cybercrime on the rise A spokesperson from SAPOL's Electronic Crime Section said broadly speaking, scams were on the rise across Australia, both in the number reported and the amount lost. "Unfortunately, cybercrime continues to grow and criminals are constantly adopting new technologies and methodologies to undertake illegal activities," she said. A Woolworths spokesperson said it worked with [credit reporting company] Equifax for ID verification and fraud detection for its mobile phone arm, while its credit cards were issued through Macquarie Bank. "The online application processes we have in place with our partners comply with all appropriate regulatory requirements and are consistent with industry best practice," the spokesman said. "In the rare cases we do see identity fraud occur in these lines of business, we will work with our customers to remedy the situation as quickly as possible." But Jason worries his personal details were compromised in a large-scale data breach, such as when the credit history and personal information of 143 million people were hacked last year through the US-based Equifax. The company wholly owns Equifax Australia, which owns the data from hundreds of thousands of Australian customers who it assured last year had not been affected in the breach. Jason said it was clear the alleged thief had their previous addresses as well because of the first letter's destination. "What I find interesting is that the companies only required date of birth, address and licence numbers to validate a purchase, yet when we rang up and proved our identities with additional information, some of the companies wanted statutory declarations." The couple was not left out of pocket and all involved companies accepted they were victims of ID theft. Personal information leaked online A Telstra spokesperson said personal information sometimes became available on the internet without an individual's awareness. "This information is often gathered fraudulently from those who fall victim to phishing scams, where it is inadvertently volunteered over the phone or internet," he said. "To proactively prevent fraud, we have recently rolled out further security measures, such as new real-time licence verification and fraud assessments."

(Supplied: Accenture) He said Telstra's ID verification technology enabled it to check the legitimacy of an identity being used, and also made any links to a blacklist of IDs that had previously been used fraudulently. An Optus spokesperson said ID theft was an "industry-wide issue and we are working together with other telecommunication providers and major banks to mitigate opportunities for fraudulent activities". "When opening a new account, Optus conducts a credit check and customers must provide 100 points of ID, which includes primary and secondary personal identification documents, such as a driver's licence, passport, Medicare card, bank card and bank statements," she said. "Once a case of identity theft is reported, Optus commences an investigation into the claim and endeavours to resolve the issue for the customer as quickly as possible." The Australian Cybercrime Online Reporting Network said scams for fraud were the top reported cybercrime in the April to June quarter and amounted to 52 per cent of all reports made up from 10,810 made during the same period two years ago. The biggest troll on the internet: you
Ahhhh, the fine art of trolling. Deliberately, cleverly, and secretly pissing people off (Urban Dictionary, n.d.) ....  duping the ‘other’ into responding; often emotionally. But what if I told you the only person you were duping was yourself?
Tumblr media
When McLuhan wrote “We shape our tools, and thereafter our tools shape us” (Parsier, 2012/McLuhan, 1968) he knew naught of modern social media.  Yet he knew, with arguably modally inferior technology that “Media works us over so completely. They are so pervasive in their personal, political, economic, aesthetic, psychological, moral, ethical, and social consequences that they leave no part of us untouched, unaffected, unaltered.”
Eli Parsier is a guy who wrote a book about the Filter Bubble.  In his research, Parsier pinpoints search engine blogger’s Danny Sullivan’s 2009 assessment of Google’s December 4 Corporate Blog as the beginning of what I describe as the ultimate troll:  the personalised search.
Our most welcome digital overlords generated a suite of 57 ‘signals’ which combined algorithmically, was going to give you a personalised search. Free of charge of course, but significantly different from the previous page ranking methodology of authority from other pages links.
Thus begins your personal, inescapable digital bubble.  Your 57 signals are stored, remembered, then combined to provide you with content you are more likely to click on.
Tumblr media
From a surface perspective, you and I will not get the same results when we search for information.  But this is only a surface-level interpretation; a McLuhan fan would also want to consider the personal, political, economic, aesthetic, psychological, moral, ethical, and social consequences of this technology in action. For brevity, here go the top 3:
Personally, I must now be conscious that large, multinational companies, including Google, Facebook, Optus, and Coles, (also, tumblr) are recording and analysing my behavior for motives known (i.e. profit) and unknown (go on, take a punt in the comments).
Politically, I must be aware the digital segregation of pertinent information, facts, analysis, and arguments are being withheld from me purposefully by algorithmic controls interested in making me click more; anecdotally, segregation doesn’t appear to promote cohesive behaviour desirable in any form of polity.
Economically, my value as a discrete unit of information is being sold, managed, curated, and arguably without my consent [I mean, yes, I agreed to the terms and conditions blah blah but literally no one reads them, (Glancier, 2014)] and is likely the most valuable asset I hold.
The perils of social media and big data are fairly well documented. Newport (2016), talks about the three most common arguments levied why individuals use social media, and trashes them.  Like, your use of social media is actually making your dumber - unable to concentrate for long period, or think analytically.
So, surrounded by a filter bubble of your own choosing, filled with content designed to make you do more of the same, one must ask the question - who is trolling who?
Participation itself is the gateway to trolling, and being trolled.  We are the authors of our own deception; cleverly and secretly pissing ourselves off.
