Better late than never. Here's my writeup of last Sunday's The Golden Lasso​ from OperaWorks​. Always an interesting and fun show; always a great exposure to Opera in a fun way; always a way to see upcoming opera and vocal stars. If you don't know about it, like Operaworks and go next year.

Had an enjoyable time at the Cantonese Opera Charity Nights, organised by the Buddha of Medicine Welfare Society (药师行愿会), and presented by OperaWorks Singapore (新艺剧坊). It was a truly riveting performance – with skilful singing, acting and martial arts, fluid hand and finger movements, accompanied by a wide array of colourful costumes. While it is a form of entertainment, Chinese Opera is also a way of imparting values and morals through vibrant and dramatic stories. The performance was also for a good cause – proceeds will go to sustaining the Society’s wide range of activities for the community. These include giving bursaries to students in need, conducting monthly visits to show care for senior citizens and running a non-profit student care centre. #cantoneseopera #chineseopera #traditionalarts #charity

Dear Friends, I am so excited to announce that after national auditions, I was selected to be one of the 24 singers to participate in OperaWorks' 2014 Winter Intensive Program held in Los Angeles. I am extremely excited about this opportunity, and I'm writing to ask your support. Some of you may know that I'm currently in my third year studying Voice Performance at the University of North Florida where I have been featured in opera, choir concerts and recital. Last year I performed the role of "Gherardo" in Gianni Schicchi, was a featured soloist in Mozart's Requiem and Handel's Messiah, and also gave a joint sophomore recital. This year is already shaping up to be a busy one: Currently, I am preparing the role of "Vašek" to be performed this summer in the Czech Republic, as well as preparing my first solo recital in Jacksonville this January.  OperaWorks is the next crucial step for me in my development, this is a nationally recognized program in which I will work with professional coaches, directors, and movement teachers who will guide me in my career. Alumni of this program have gone on to perform at the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, La Scala and Deutsche Oper Berlin to name a few. In order for me to take advantage of this exciting opportunity, I need to raise $2800 to cover my tuition, housing and my plane ticket to LA.
