Teaspoon, 803 Americana Way, Glendale, CA 91210
Tumblr media
Teaspoon recently opened on Brand, next to Chick-fil-a. They must still be in soft opening mode because they didn’t have quite a few things on the menu, like their house cream, grass jelly, pastries (cake, macarons, brownies), etc. The tea is made to order (they use a machine that looks like an espresso machine) and you can get organic milk. The fruit marmalades are made in house.
Choose from seasonal drinks, milk tea, coffee, and signature drinks like caramel cream, guava sunset, and strawberry sangria. You can also create your own drink ($5.75) and specify the level of sweetness, amount of ice, type of milk, and toppings (boba, popping boba, jellies, puddings).
Grasshopper: it was refreshing and light, tasted the cucumber juice more than the lychee green tea
Silky strawberry: housemade strawberry marmalade mixed with organic milk – basically strawberry milk with real strawberries – tasted natural, was fine but too simple for me. I prefer milk tea anyway.
Earl grey black tea with classic cream (lactose-free), 0% sweetness, light ice, grass jelly ($5.75 + $0.75): Their classic cream is lighter than whole milk. The tea flavor was weaker and the milk less creamy. The drink just seemed weaker in general, like watered down. The crystal boba were firm and sweet. Also, light ice was still half of cup of big ice cubes. The drink was expensive and not as flavorful.
It’s a nice looking, small shop with no indoor seating and a few tables outside. Sign up for rewards.

Twinkle Tea, 498 S Lake Ave, Pasadena, CA 91101, Score: 38/50
Tumblr media
Cheap snacks and good milk tea near Caltech. I recommend the milk tea and popcorn chicken.
Score: 38/50
Food: 4/5 – Mostly fried snacks but the popcorn chicken is pretty good. They also have egg puffs and takoyaki. Prices are lower than average.
Coffee: 4/5 – They have coffee but I haven’t tried it. The milk tea is pretty good.
Wi-fi: 5/5 – Free, unlimited, secure. Ask for the password.
Ambiance: 3/5 – Cute place, white walls, looks modern.
Noise: 3/5 – Upbeat pop music, loud but not crazy loud, on a busy street so you hear the traffic
Plugs: 5/5 – Tons!
Parking: 4/5 – You can usually find something in the neighborhood. Most spaces are free but limited to two hours. There’s also a parking garage where you can park for free for three hours.
Comfort: 4/5 – Padded chairs and padded bench. The place is a little small (not much seating) though.
Bathroom: 3/5 – One unisex (it was out of order)
Art: 3/5 – None
Tips: Place your order at the self-service kiosk. Rewards available through Toast. They also have happy hour. It’s within walking distance of Caltech.

Some old traditional Jon Jarchivist Sims drawings because my ipad had an unfortunate encounter with milk tea and it did not pass the vibe check
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Btw I used India ink to outline his hair, ace ring and boots because it’s darker than black fine-liner
Image description under cut :)
[ID: three photos of two traditional ink drawings of Jonathan Sims from the Magnus Archives.
The first photo is a full body of Jon, who has long black hair with streaks of white throughout it. He is facing the right in a sitting position, with one leg crossed over the other, though the chair is not illustrated. He wears a dark green jumper with waved white lines and black dots so that they look like somewhat subtle stylised eyes. He wears a white collared shirt underneath but it barely visible, and a long, brown skirt and black boots. He rests his chin on his right hand which has a black ring on his middle finger, while his other hand rests on his leg and has a gold wedding ring. The hair, jumper, skirt and boots are coloured in with fine-liner with hatching. The colour of the skirt is composed of one layer of light brown lines, and other layer of dark brown.
The second photo is a bust of Jon, his head angled slightly downwards and to the side, a sceptical expression on his face as he side-eyes something to the viewer’s right. His hair only reaches his shoulders, half of it pulled into a bun. He is wearing glasses as well as eye-shaped earrings that hang from his earlobes. He wears a light green cardigan over a buttoned white shirt. The pointed ends of the white collar have a dot and three lines embroidered them, and there is a dark green ribbon tied under his collar, tied into a loose bow and pinned with a neck brooch shaped like a stylised eye. The hair and cardigan are also coloured in using hatching, with the cardigan composed of a layer of light green ink under a layer of dark green.
The third photo is a close-up of the first image, focused on Jon’s face.

I think Harrow might actually like tea with milk and sugar but I bet John is one of those insufferable pretentious assholes who goes on about how you’re altering the flavor profile and there’s no point even drinking it with milk or sweetener because it’s not the real experience. So she’s just being forced to drink strong unsweetened tea after being on a diet of one thing for almost her whole life. One of his many crimes tbh Justice for Harrow
this is actually what my mother did and for 19 long years I was convinced tea was a disgusting and frankly horrible experience that everyone was simply lying through their teeth about. I assumed that boba milk tea was like, an entirely different beverage (i was stupid). anyway. I HAVE LEARNED

Help !! >_< Need tea recommendations.
Self-explanatory I think, but I'm wondering if anybody has any specific (preferably loose-leaf) tea they could recommend? I'm not picky whatsoever, I like all kinds of tea and love trying new things. I favor sweeter teas, but I think they're all special in their own little way.. That being said, if anybody has a specific kind they like, I'd love to know. Hoping to buy a bunch of new tea this month. ^_^ Kind of also just asking what kind of tea people like. I think it's nice to get opinions from people with the same silly little interest as me!!

Chapresso Premium Beverages, 2142 Huntington Dr, San Marino, CA 91108
Tumblr media
It’s nice to have a premium boba tea shop in San Marino and it’s also an interesting reflection of how the demographics in the area have changed with the influx of wealthy Asians (primarily Chinese). Chapresso is a few months old. The menu includes milk tea, brewed tea, fruit infused tea, and pastries (pretty sure they’re not made in-house) like cookies, muffins, and croissants.
Each cup of tea is brewed to order using tea leaves and machines that look like espresso machines but are meant for brewing tea (hence the name, Chapresso). They use non-dairy creamer. You can adjust the ice and sweetness levels. There are two cup sizes. And the number of toppings is quite limited: honey boba, lychee jelly, agar boba, and mango jelly. Also, there is a limited selection of teas to choose from – variations of black, green, and oolong tea.
Barley black milk tea ($5.60 regular size + $0.65 for agar boba, 0% sweetness, less ice). The tea flavor was very nice – on the sweeter side, not bitter. The sweetness level was just right. The agar boba were sweet, firm, and chewy, like gelatin. I’m not a fan of non-dairy creamers though.
You can order at the counter or use the self-order kiosk. There is a reward program. Service was friendly. Indoor seating is limited but they have a few tables outside. Street parking is usually easy to find.

I recently discovered Milk Oolong tea thanks to the manhwa “50 Tea Recipes from the Duchess” and I’m so glad picked up some during my recent trip to London. All the taste of milky tea without the milk!
Next time I’ll try to make milk tea with this and see how it taste with actual milk in it.
