Seed gathering and cleaning and sowing is a lot of work. Unless you love it. Then it is a lot of fun. ONOPORDUM ACANTHIUM is one of the most beautiful thistles I know. I hope they germinate! #onopordumacanthium #onopordum #scotchthistle #oisforonopordum #hollingtonsflorilegium #seedsavers #semiscambi #weedsareflowerstoo #iloveweeds #lamacchinafissa #mezzogiardiniere #clarkanthonylawrence (presso La Macchina Fissa) https://www.instagram.com/p/CeybwFgIbYc/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

My Circle of Spores druid named Kanta. Yes the name is very unfortunate, I'm aware. Took it from "Onopordum acanthium" which is a fancy name for the cotton thistle.
She's in her late 30s, pretty ordinary when it comes to overall design.
The portrait on the left is the original look, the moment she started romancing Halsin she tidied up a bit - hence pic on the right. (The magic mirror they added in camp is the best addition :'D)

Note
tho i will give you baronic folks this, you do know how to make a good capital ship, and whatever the onopordum is besides a waste of life
Why thank you! In my naval service, I've certainly come to appreciate the value of our superior spacecraft. Though perhaps not the onopordum - I know I've spent too much time on those in my life. We're looking to phase them out soon, but you know how these things go

Scotch Thistle or Spear Thistle (Cirsium vulgare) also Bull Thistle or Common Thistle, is “A” Scottish thistle but not “THE” Scottish thistle (Onopordum acanthium) which has more silver foliage. Apart from that they look a lot the same. Either way both plants have really vicious thistle spikes. They have been introduced around the world and are a weed but still pretty. These are growing along the creek at Hillsborough dog show grounds along with practically every other weed you can think of. The plant is edible but you’d have to be a bit desperate to tackle those spines. #ScottishThistle #SpearThistle #thistle #flower #abcmygarden #weed #invasive #edible #EuropeanPlant #EnvironmentalWeed (at Belmont, New South Wales, Australia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CkkfoySvDTf/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Plant of the Day
Saturday 30 May 2020
In the second year of the biennial Onopordum acanthium (cotton thistle) life cycle it produces these robust, towering flower stems which will be topped with rounded, thistle-like purple flower heads. In the first year the plant forms a rosette of huge spiny leaves, covered with white hairs. In the late afternoon sunlight they looked like stainless steel sculptures.

Spotted this Onopordum acanthium (Cotton or Scottish Thistle). Man, I love thistles! . This giant beauty is rarely available in Nurseries nowadays and far less common still in Garden Centres. No good reason for this, it is a fantastic, dramatic British Native that should feature more in gardens. This one has self-seeded I’m the tiniest crack in the base of a wall through a tarmac path. Still achieving over 1.5m (5’) despite so little a root space. A proper survivor! . Silver foliage and a proper pinky-purple thistle flower head. Works brilliantly with tall grasses and spreading through blocks of low herbaceous perennials like Geranium. . A good thing. . #onopordum #onopordumacanthium #herbaceous #perennials #thistle #silver #pink #purple #thistles #prickly #wall #brick #paving #street #gate #selfseeded #growfromseed #iplantsman #garden #landscape #handsomeplant #plants (at Golden Green) https://www.instagram.com/p/CB_MqLoA66w/?igshid=699znakb0iy8

Thistles (probably Canada thistle - Cirsium arvense)
‘Thistle’ is the common name for plants in 16 genera whose flowers conform to this general shape. Farmers world-wide hate them because they invade pastureland and herbivores won’t eat them because of their prickles. A number of species merit condemnation on the Invasive Species Council of British Columbia’s website. Most thistles look very much the same and thereby hangs a tale.
The Scotch thistle (Onopordum acanthium) is the national emblem of Scotland. According to legend, in the eight century a Norse raiding party was approaching a Scottish garrison when a bare-footed Viking stepped on a Scotch thistle and his cry of pain alerted the Scots and saved the day. The Scottish king, Alexander lll (1249 - 1286), declared the Scotch thistle the official emblem and it later acquired the motto, nemo me impune lacessit  (’no one will provoke me with impunity’).
