Anyone else think short form social media based on algorithms designed to promote topics that create more engagement instead of more joy, the idea of fast fashion but conveyed through social media, and the fact you can monetize suffering and outrage better than ever has largely resulted in the death spiral of media literacy and the mass emergence of bad faith readings?
#I may be venting a lil but god it blows my mind#fyp is a blessing and a curse because i don't think ppl were ever meant to be subjected to this many ppl at once#god i took a bird site hiatus for weeks and now BARELY check it and it already feels like a hit#oughhhhh#even fandom spaces have hugely incorporated marketing and networking into them bc of cmms and sponsorship and building portfolio#which would be fine tbh if it weren't for the way socmed is designed#now it's like you can't support too many ppl or else you're shadow banned or you have to make yourself palatable and marketable#and websites with threads in which people will only read the first post before qrting because ratios are seen as five minutes of fame#features that permit beating an algorithm are locked behind a paywall that promises you money if you go viral#and what goes viral is usually incendiary content meant for those ratios or trends. whether for or against OP#even in hobbyist spaces the climate has changed so much due to the monetization and marketing and just. ugh#not to mention side accounts dedicated to gossip in this new priv account culture like...idk#if you have to make another account so you can make fun of a friend on main with selected priv friends it just doesn't sit well with me#and not every priv account does this but enough do and it makes me tired#unsolicited hate comments are still as bad as they used to be on ff dot net except now people openly are proud of it more#why do most socmed feel like passive aggressive sticky notes on high school lockers#there is so much more I could say about everything that has left me weary about the internet but I don't know the time or place#and I don't want anyone to think this is about them because it's a general statement. though if you are doing the more inflammatory things.#maybe rethink that. it's not good for anyone else and it's not good for you either#I keep coming back online to check on ppl and see art and I *know* it's draining for my health every time#but I feel a lot better now that i use socmed less overall. and that I try to focus on what makes me happy#it just sucks seeing so many people i care about endure absolutely wild struggles bc people online do not care.#I like rambling in my tags because this is the only place I ramble except my personal journal and to my wife

#that’s in USD. almost 13 american dollars for a mass market paperback of cannery row#I went up to the counter intending to haggle because like. jesus you can’t ring that up with a straight face#but then the owner of the place was like ‘well we check every price online and we don’t just price everything at a discount’#so I just left because what.#the sign on your door says thrift. hello. #I’ll be watching all of your recs when I’m there 🙏#I also have so many updates and posts that I haven’t felt the guts to ever say#I’m sorry I’ve been a bad mutual but I’ve been a bad friend to all the online friends and friends from my university#im lucky I live in a condo community w/ lots of extention of family + help! my coastal city - particularly our part of the city#in a particular building where we all meet up together in the front on weekends#even at my sickest - I’m still pretty involved since we see eachother physically & I love cooking + baking for everyone on a 2x monthly#and we all walk the dogs together every afternoon in our dog walking by the harbor group#even then these old people have me in a group text and drop flowers off for me and me for them#living in a community is so helpful but it open my eyes that I’m not even just sick or even a bad friend but those two factors strained#my online relationships bc the effort was so much behind the scenes w/ my health and even typing something out that it makes messaging or#even blogging but I’d like to change that bc I want to be more overt online#and I explain how that relates to Palestine and findinfing joy + $$$ in this end stage capitalist nightmare#I want to be better but I also want to show people the joys of my city (a literal hidden gem yet is a national park) and so between fusing#ideas of environmentalism - community out reach & even descalation of yt Supremacist mentalities when doing outreach + volunteer#even our coastal environmental causes to such great causes that help indigenous latinx members of our community in particular#their rights and their accomplishments in agriculture & how fruitful this place is#we have the best strawberries + berries since they are indigenous plants but anyways from environmentalism to damn farmers markets#I live in a slice of heaven so why leave to go to LA and NYC when I create such beautiful joy by the ocean every day#we have such incredible water views in our condo along with the stunning plain mountains framing the water and sea of palm trees#every sunset is like Santa Barbara (we close!) w/ pink/purple/orange skies that are so vibrant that they make you take pictures constantly#especially with the herons nested there w/ there babies - so close to#is that we watch them all day long + the other coastal birds#all this Shit is random but I realized that if I put my effort into a few things academically that I haven’t even shared in these tags -#that I can have an incredibly fulfilling life while sick as long it pays for itself and I think I can do it w/ a few different plans I’m#creating but I’m setting up a couple of businesss for passive income - go back to grad schooo but for medical research or political science#IR my old life of international relations and start publishing my research on Palestine and Jewish studies#I just need to publish either medical or political but if I do that - have my east businesses that not only highlight my life#but may help the people and animals of my city#but I feel the change finally coming and maybe it took something like this to wake me up#so many funny typos but this was just a quick way to explain that I need to be more comfortable on video + online w/ you all but on tiktok

#ramblings of a lunatic#decided to rewatch it again bc the toh finale has had me in a tizzy and while I'm getting better#it's definitely been hard just floating about in fandom space knowing that the show is ending and that in the scenario we do get more of it#in another form ofc#it won't be for a long time yknow?#it's saddening and back in September when i was uh. Very Sad bapc was really there for me#i was out here ardently defending the netflix series' writing bc i genuinely thought it was really good#and i still do#but more than that this show is intensely comforting in a way i can't really place/describe#it's a magical girl show. it's a workplace comedy. 99% of the cast is 25 years or older. its a coming of age story.#it's has pastel and lo-fi art direction. it's cosmic horror. the main character is so caring and yet so selfish and also autistic#and a robot#all of her romantic relationships are intensely weird and frankly are her least interesting dynamics#her most interesting dynamics are with her roomate/pet who's actually a space pirate cursed to look like a marketable plushy#and with her 8 year old landlord who's mom was childhood best friends with her dad making them family in a sense#except they're not really. also they're foils (she's an immature adult he's a kid who tries to be more responsible than he is)#it's filled with intense melancholy and multiple characters suffer from un-talked about depression#it is one of the cutest and brightest shows i have ever seen (in a non-obnoxious or technicolor way) and has an intense air of whimsy#it kinda has a fandom but not a big one despite having an undeniable impact in online animation culture and a bit on online culture overall#I'm not captivated by it in a fandom-y sense but i am obsessed with it. it's like wuthering heights to me#i love this show

EVERYTHING goes back to how can we use that#*to promote our brand#leave the kids alone for fuck's sake#what are you gonna prey on kids' loneliness to have them buy more product? you gonna foment the already present addiction to social#media for a few clicks and some cash? fuck you. fuck you fuck you fuck you to the sun and back#advertising to kids should be forbidden#let's tell a heartwarming story about friendship and cameraderie to advertise pur products IS NOTHING SACRED ANYMORE#they talk about the fucking dopamine loop that happens on social media and i don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing in their eyes#''being where they escape'' written over a photo of a skateboard park with a huge ad hanging over the ramps IT'S NOT AN ESCAPE ANYMORE NOW#image of 3D avatars with speech bubbles over them with stuff like ''let's play'' or ''what's up?'' and the figures are all just. looking#*into the distance. is there a more poignant depiction of loneliness in an online hyperconected world?? and i think it's unironically meant#to be a positive depiction of people having fun in a virtual world and yet ALL OF THEM ARE STANDING AROUND AND SYARING INTO NOTHING#antithesis of fun. they talk about overload of information in the context of how to cut through the noise and basically scream louder than#*anyone else. for God's sake if kids are overloaded don't expose them to more????? wtf??? if ''constant exposure to global issues and#*social media are resulting in their need for mental health support'' maybe don't try to build places for them on FUCKING social media??#like are we dumb? do we build playgrounds on highways now?? you talk about the fine line between escapism and avoidance and then about the#dopamine loop?? this industry is predatory to the most extreme degree and i hate it to death. if i ever have kids i'll buy myself a brick#*nokia and relinquish all social media. fuck all of this. the worst part is i WORK here and i should be able to do something to make it#*better but fuck if i know how. can the ship bee saved or do we have to burn it to the ground. i am so angry#swearing#vent post

Muu Masterpost: Fashion & Aesthetic mini blurb
I'm not going to get into heavy specifics over his preferences for style across the years in this post, but instead will only being honing in on the most recent development. One built strictly on the strategy of appearing taller, therefore older and more desirable in his mind.
Being scraping by the barrel allowing him to be considered 5ft4 (though if we are going into specifics, he falls at 5ft3 and 3/4 quarters), he's not really one to stand out as the largest man in the room by any means. A trait not at aided by his almost left in time youthful appearance directly caused by the only just recently diagnosed Kallmann Syndrome.
As of yet, he has no desire whatsoever to utilize testosterone as a means of assisting him in appearing more like his age appropriate peers, and is instead opting more for the aesthetic of appearing larger since he's not anticipated to grow on hormone treatments as is anyways. That and he so greatly admires his jovial androgyny regardless of how well it fares amongst those around him.
The method of choice to achieve such a resemblance has been none other than to begin predominantly wearing three specific pieces alongside each other for the time being, and to elevate it from there over time. Those pieces are none other than very specific shirts with long, oversized bell sleeves at their ends to hide his hands, making indiscernible where his hand ends, and where the remainder of the sleeve begins; as well as high waisted, preferably slim legged pants, and vegan only platform boots. Namely those marketed by Doc Martens due to being very uneducated on what other options are out there for him to utilize. Examples of what all of those appear when paired entirely with one another is illustrated below.
#; ♡ ; headcanons#; ♡ ; closet#personally he loves a lot of color in his wardrobe and he can't ever claim one palette over another#perhaps the least appearing is gray whereas black and white are healthily placed throughout his articles of clothing#neons are also few and far between as they are an unfavorable visual sensory experience#tactile avoidances also occur such as stirring away from velvets and certain knitted materials#but of course he's a pink and cream kind of fella himself#I also want to note he buys clothing with the mindset of finding feminine items in the men's section#and masculine ones in the women's section#he does however most notably finding himself limited to women's shoes unless he is ordering online#because so few places carry size 7s in stock as they aren't marketable to anyone besides those with lil feet like himself#Other times he only finds it in the children's section which he can't say he necessarily is much of a fan of outside of fun slippers#dressing with so many oversized qualities also allows so little of him to be seen#so be wary he's not sneaking snacks somewhere in big pockets or hiding your family pets in them

trying to find somewhere to sell the textbooks that I had to buy this year but one of them had a new edition come out like a month ago & I cannot find anywhere willing to pay more than $14 for the old edition even though it cost me $60 used & already full of highlighted pages
