Musical Theatre Song Contest: Finals !
youtube
youtube
Submitter’s propaganda under the cut
Wait For Me
It’s a song about the lengths people will go to for love, even if it doesn’t make sense
One Day More
Those final notes where the whole cast is singing in unison get me every time I swear
Literally iconic. The most musical theatre song. Incorporates nearly every main character in the show with a solo, all at the same time. Lots of stage choreography and marching, which I can tell you is a huge pain to organize for some reason. Also, Les mis is a prominent story, not just with the song structure but with the themes. And there's a revolution and flag waving! Just well done.
It's unique in the way that the full cast sings completely different parts yet are all still unified in the way that it ties all of the different storylines together.

There’s literally NOTHING like the end of season 2 episode 13 of iZombie the when they used fucking One Day More from Les Mis to underscore Liv, Ravi, and Major digging up corpses

Spies are Forever has invaded my dreams. That's how obsessed I am. I had a dream last night that I was the one who got Curt and Owen together, I was THE match maker. Because of how much I love saf I have been drawing every saf character daily until I've draw all 55.
Today's character is the last of the Russian goons who corner Curt and Owen, played by Tessa Netting, Day 54/55

Honestly I love how the 2012 movie put On My Own before One Day More. On My Own starts with Eponine’s regular coping mechanism of dreaming about Marius and a future with him, but it stops working when she realizes he’s in love with Cosette. I think underneath the words in the song, she’s contemplating going to the barricade to die. When she says “Without him, the world around me changes” she’s realizing she can’t live without him and when she says “Without me, his world will go on turning” she’s realizing he’s fine without her. And you see in her part in One Day More, she’s made her decision. She’s dressing for the barricade, knowing she’s going to die, telling herself she only has one more day of living her miserable life and that it’ll all be over soon.

Les Misérables - One Day More - Live on NBC Today, August 28th 1999 Jean Valjean - Fred Inkley Javert - Philip Hernandez Marius - Peter Lockyer Cosette - Tobi Foster Eponine - Dana Meller Enjolras - Christopher Mark Peterson This performance is notable for NOT featuring the Thénardier. Alice Ripley is interviewed in full Fantine outfit at the beginning of the video but she understandably doesn't take part in the performance. (She did perform I dreamed a dream on that same show)

If I Were A Rich Man
I’m learning the melody on the flute! Very fun song!

One Day More FNAF Challenge Day 5
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Meanwhile, in the VR world, Scraptrap contemplates going out of his hideaway early. Too bad self-loathing and… ghostly voices of the past? animatronics saying their personal vows?… are keeping him at bay.
Context
Day 1
Day 2
Day 3
Day 4
(BTW, the voices during the duet sections do have characters matched up with them. I’ll RB with a transcript soon.)

So I watched the Broadway Backwards video and I'm kind of mad now.
After a long, long while, I have finally found the time to watch the Broadway Backwards take on One Day More. And ooooh boy. Do I have Thoughts on it.
Please someone tell me I'm misunderstanding the presenter at the beginning and this is not supposed to be set at ACT UP. Please tell me the Republican lady having super teased hair is just something US Republican ladies do and not meant to set this in the 80s. Because otherwise... Otherwise this is Les Mis Twitter levels of bad. This reads like a 15-year-old writing fanfiction in 2012 who just discovered ACT UP existed, except that this is Broadway. This is a fundraiser for Broadway Cares. A lot of people in there were around during the AIDS crisis. They should know better.
There are no references to AIDS whatsoever. On a Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS fundraiser set at AIDS Coalition To Unleash Power. (This one is self explanatory, right?)
The Enjolras stand-in is wearing a shirt that's just a trans flag. Apart from the lack of subtlety, the trans flag was created in 1999, seven years after the breakup of ACT UP.
The Valjean stand-in is a Republican lady who joins them because her son "would still be there if they didn't tell him he was going to hell". Not saying religious bigotry is not a problem, but it's not the one ACT UP was fighting!!
The group is preparing for a march on Washington. That's.... not how ACT UP worked. If we believe Ann Northrop, one of the most active members of ACT UP New York, the biggest demonstration they ever did was Stop The Church, an action outside the St. Patrick Cathedral in New York City, and it was a pretty small action on a specific target, not a big demonstration on a symbolic one.
This might just be symbolic, but the flag they fly is the Progress Flag. Which was invented in 2018. Talk about anachronism.
Also, this is just petty, but "Gay Son"??? That is a weak-ass slogan. Worried you'd offend someone if you said something more specific than that, Broadway?
I guess I'm more prickly about this than I could, because I'm reading a book on ACT UP at the moment and the author namechecks Broadway (and Broadway Cares) specifically when talking about how even very gay-heavy institutions and communities left HIV+ people to rot, but... this is just plain bad.
