We love being able to drive right to the water on the some of the rivers and creeks in Oklahoma. Spavinaw Lake State Park was the next stop on our NE Oklahoma swimming hole tour. Its 30 minutes north of Locust Grove. We stopped here in June last year and wanted to return. The water was warmer and shallower due to less rain and flow over the dam this time of year. A preview into one of my favorite places in Oklahoma. Just off of I35, in the middle of the Arbuckles is Turner Falls. 

I got the privilege of going here during my time at Oklahoma State Horseshoeing School. While these mountains were not necessarily big, they were still gorgeous with colors of red all over. 

Despite the fact that I went in the winter time, I still think it was the most gorgeous time of the year to go. The lack of greenery in the trees left a viewer more to view throughout the park, even though it was densely packed with trees in some parts. The whole park however, was gorgeous despite everything dead (even the activity).

Thought the next day or so, I will be posting pictures from this adventure, along with songs that I think will fit the picture, and why.

Little Sahara State Park in Waynoka is another example of Oklahoma's diverse terrain. The park has over 1,600 acres of sand dunes, ranging in height from 25 to 75 feet. The dunes have formed over time and are remnants of prehistoric times when the Cimarron River flowed over the entire area.  The main attraction at Little Sahara State Park is dune buggy and ATV riding. They don't allow pedestrian traffic in the OHV areas. It's also difficult to get on the dunes without a properly equipped vehicle. They have recently updated and greatly expanded the campgrounds from when I ATVed here years ago. With today's weekday wind and heat, we.only saw one camper and no OHVs.
