Battle of the Mall(?)

There was a debate on the social regarding what is the best mall, which is very Klang Valley centric, because you know, we have so many malls. Me on the other hand, I dont really have a strong feeling towards mall haha. I guess probably because I dont do window shopping as much. Most of my stuff and outfit before was bought at Jusco or Giant. And that is not really a mall. Haha but foreal even buku kertas lukisan I bought at Giant. So to me, a mall is just huh, a mall. But of course lah there's a preferability so here my not so rate on it.

Wangsa Walk LOL new KL people will say mende wangsa walk, what got but haha it was a pretty famous hangout place back when I was in high school. It got wayang, arcade, takoyaki, rotiboy, boiling. And it a pretty smol mall too, so no need that many of walking. Haha sure takde hnm but kamon, your taste is HnM?!

Mid Valley Honestly, this is like an upper mall to me. Because it kinda big and have so many shops even one I rarely see. As a kid, me veryyy jarang go here. But during my study, hmmm wait even then I only go if nak tengok wayang je. And it accessible by KTM, so yeah thats that.

IOI Putrajaya Honestly....haha I dont like this mall. It so cracy big kinda make me headache if I need to go here everyday. Even go there every month pun, I feel overwhelmed. But I do have some fun memories lah. Though,,,yeah so big. Got LUSH, tapi gue takde duit tak beli lebih2 huhuhuhuhuhu. OHH one more reason tak suka isparking mahal!! sekali masuk RM2 on weekdays, weekends is RM4! crazy. Tengok wayang je will cost you RM8 on parking alone!!! ughhhh

Setapak Sentral Known as KL Festival before. It's....okay. If I live nearby, maybe would go there more. Jalan in Setapak is not very fun to drive though.

If want to talk about layout, yeah it's big, but I was not there enough to familiar with the place. So cam.....okay. Sunway Pyramid A...fancy mall to me. Haha maybe because the pyramid so gahh one. And the interior also fancy, wow extra. But not a every day/month/year mall to me. No comment

Publika I...honestly like Publika. Hahahha maybe because not me who drive here. yeah, the level thing is confusing, but only if you take lift. If escalator, cam okay kot. It's a fancy place, like very jarang to see if crowd CROWD. So not very overwhelmed. The architecture and surrounding are nice too, to walk around. It probably the nearest fancy mall I go compared to OU or sunway

Sunway Putra Only go if I want to stop for a bit by LRT and omw to home. Yes escalator layout is stupid. It's actually the most basic and boring mall.... like all mall is boring, but this is the OG template.

SOGO Such an OG shopping only mall. Probably most visited mall by me.

Melawati Mall So annoyingly big and huge looking. (yes grammarly this is a wrong sentence but you get my point aite)

Kip Mall, Bangi Good sebab no need bayar parking. My go to alone 'healing' place (LMAOO Pleasee I hate this word ahahah I only say it ironically). Actually, sebab ada Jalan Jalan Japan je.... The Mr DIY outlet here no likey. The layout is memanjang, so need to jalan sampaiii ke hujung penjuru to buy stuff usually. Got KFC, Watsons, Guardian, Supermarket, kedai jam and tailor. Something for everyone lah I would say.

It's actually really easy! *^* The only thing is the hardener (which is mixed with the resin), it's toxic & flammable and it's better not work with it at home x)

The mixture is poured into cups and mixed with pigments (paints), then you just pour them onto wooden coasters and that's where the fun begins! ☆

You can 1) tilt it and mix the colors; 2) paint by hand with a stick; 3) blow it with a hair dryer XD Each option is beautiful & interesting in its own way (ㅅ´ ˘ `)♡

Y3 / S1 / Week 5: 4th Interview

This week we were able to interview our 4th person. We met with them in our lunch break on the Monday. We made sure there was noon in the next door classroom as for our topics we were asking, we needed a private space. During our interview some of our class mates walked in and we asked them for 10 more minutes and they were very polite. 

During our interview, we kept the tone very casual and allowed the interviewee to lead where they wanted to go and what sections they wanted to answer. She asked to use a pink pen as she felt it was very casual. She liked the template for the interview we had created as she was able to look over the questions in which would be in the interview before answering them. She also liked how it was colourful and made the harder questions easier to think about. 

She didn’t write very much on the paper, but we asked if we were allowed to take a voice recording of her and she said yes. After the interview was over, we then went back over the voice recording and wrote down her answers as we felt it was rude to write them down during the interview as we wouldn’t then be engaged.

Only reason it makes it hard to communicate at events is because everything is so loud

People can’t hear you, they probably didn’t hear you properly, so don’t take things in

Distractions “I’m at the bathroom, oh wait not i’m at the stage ect…”

Usually a 5 minute interval between people checking texts so then they have already moved

Is it easy to stay with your friends at events?

Yea it is easy, it is just distractions again, yeah not sticking with buddies.

Text, always try to jump and see if i can see their head in the crowd

If there is an emergency at an event, how would you communicate with event staff /  security? Please explain…

I dunno, I think the only time I have notified event staff is then there is no water at the water station, that’s just easy, you just find them and tap their shoulder and they can usually help, and they can usually hear you, because they aren’t intoxicated and are onto it.

Is it communicated clearly by the festival where the medic tent or other necessities are?

I dunno, if it’s a big festival it’s usually got good signage and it’s on the map where the medic tent is, but I dunno if smaller events have that kinda thing.

I think it’s just signs and you subconsciously see it and remember

A rough number, cause it’s different, sometimes its 4 and sometimes its 9.. Is there a reason for this? It depends on how long pres are or how much money I have, type of event, if it’s a big group or a small group. If it’s a small group, you have more time to do other things than talk. In a bigger group, i tend to put my drink down and loose it.

Thanksgiving is just about the greatest holiday ever invented.  I'm sure you will agree. It's classic Americana (unless you're celebrating in Canada then it's something else).  An enduring tradition of giant Woody Woodpecker balloons, Detroit Lions futility, the absence of any dietary inhibition, and assuming there is enough booze on hand, lots of warm and fuzzy family togetherness.  Everyone celebrates in their own unique way, but the idealized nature of the overall template is universally awesome.  Or is it?  Actually, it's often not like that at all.  The Turkey Day reality for many people is very different.  Maybe you heard on the news, or read in your Reader's Digest how stressful this time of year is for lots of people.  Instead of looking forward to participating in their annual rituals, many people would simply rather be doing something else.  The cause for this feeling of dread varies, but my experience has taught me it usually boils down to one of three scenarios.  1.)  Outside pressure.  Spending time with family members we don't regularly associate with imposes a burden on us.   Think, being forced to answer for the perception of unmet expectations.  Not measuring up to some arbitrary standard.  And the questions, ohh the questions.  Why are you still single?  When are you having a baby?  Why is this stuffing so dry? 2.)  Obligatory fakery.  Being anything less than our true selves causes emotional stress and unhappiness.  The Holidays are loaded with this.  A lot of people at your party won't know you very well, it forces you to make nice and act a certain way.   You pretend you're happy to see these people, you hold back an opinion, you tell your host her candied yams are delicious.  3.)  Thanksgiving itself is nostalgic.  We often associate it with extremely positive memories.  Different people, special people, better times, etc.  It's easy to get caught up thinking how great life used to be.  How far we are from where we want to be.   Where we thought we'd be.  My personal view is Thanksgiving is a wonderful and sentimental time to enjoy interactions with people I need to see more often.  However, I am completely aware that not everyone shares this perspective, maybe not even the person I'll be sitting next to at dinner.  I won't ask him about the stuffing.

Beyond the Valley of the FarmVille

After Floating Point is finished (and I’m cracking on 3.6, believe you me) I’ve been pondering what I want to do with my website. I’m going to be taking a vacation from actively cranking on a major creative project, but I’d hate to leave this thing still and silent. So, I’m thinking I’ll revive my blog as… wait for it… a blog. Like I used to do back in the LiveJournal days. Egads.

This may mean I’ll occasionally post something you disagree with, because I got opinions about stuff. But if you’re this deep I’m guessing you already know the sorts of biases and leanings I have, so none of it will be a shock to you.

Still, let’s start out with a softball pitch as I review, compare, and contrast two fairly old games at this point… Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley.

I love the idea of managing a small town, of customizing and personalizing your home, of interacting with a village of quirky characters and running simple quests to make their lives better. In these Dark Days of Terror it’s quite pleasant to be able to make an impact on a small world in small ways, doing small things. Even the simplicity of chores like watering your plants or making suspicious motions behind a cow are pleasant.

Each game has their own strengths…

Animal Crossing gradually unfolds, more and more facilities and things to do coming online as you go… and ohh, the customization! I was actually able to make my town a terrifying dictatorship complete with immigration processing center, mad scientist lair, propaganda broadcast tower, and a gameshow TV studio where contestants were put to death in electric chairs by the spin of a wheel! …yes, I’m still talking about Animal Crossing. Subverting that game was FUN, especially since the game carried on as if nothing was out of the ordinary, everybody was happy and carefree and having a grand ‘ol colorful and adorable time of it. Even if I hadn’t gone that route with my theming the range of ways you can personalize were quite impressive.

Stardew Valley is a bit more set in tone and theme without as much personalization, but has an amazing nostalgic feel thanks to the retro 16-bit inspired aesthetic of it and amazing music. It trades complexity of customization for complexity of tasks, with a wide variety of things you can do from farming to fishing to animal husbandry to foraging in trash cans like a raccoon. Building up relationships with townsfolk rewards you with short cutscenes and interaction moments of far more sophistication than AC, as they use a set cast of characters rather than a constantly rotating array of generic NPCs.

But… eventually I fell out with both games. While I liked a lot of what they delivered, some small annoyances just crept right under my skin and made me realize I had way too much else to do with my life to keep on with them.

Animal Crossing’s breakpoint was its decay factor and chore slog. Unlike SV’s chores which can be done in a few quick minutes, AC requires you to scour your entire town looking for randomly placed things that spawn once a day… but doing so can actually ruin your town, as running around on the grass kills grass, and it barely ever comes back. And speaking of ruin, all those carefully placed streets and avenues to villager’s houses? Ruined if you don’t find the ONE randomly selected person in town each day who’s thinking of leaving, and talk to them, pronto. Assuming you can find them, as they have varying schedules which key off a realtime clock. If that person leaves a new one moves in to a random location, wrecking your layout. And God help you if you take a few realtime days off from playing — the amount of decay you’ll face will be crazy. I’d resorted to resetting the system clock to only advance time one day each time I played to avoid that. The game’s constant demand of your time and attention lest everything fall into chaos and disrepair meant once my town was exactly as I wanted it to be, I had to STOP playing, cold. Couldn’t boot it up on a whim months later or it’d be a wreck.

As for Stardew Valley, I fell out of that one pretty rapidly. Having a set cast of characters, a set town, and little customization meant a richer experience… but only so far. Outside of triggered relationship events not much actually happened worth note. The only thing to keep you playing was to unlock various town upgrade bundles by providing one of nearly every item in the game to the Community Center… which required massive time optimization to ensure you grew one of every plant, cared for one of every animal, etc. on a season-by-season basis. Did you miss a Spring crop? You’ll have to wait a whole in-game year to take another crack at that. And if you aren’t playing for those completionist-oriented quests, well, there’s not much else to work towards.

All of this lead me to think, well… what do I WANT out of a game like this? The answer seems to be a hybrid of the two, without the annoyances.

My ideal game would allow heavy customization and self-expression (AC), but coupled with a strong and stable cast of characters (SV). Allow me to restyle my home and my town, but provide better NPCs than AC’s generic templates. While I like the quest systems in both I wouldn’t make them as wildly demanding as SV’s quests, or as random and time-consuming as AC’s. And above all… NO DECAY (AC) and no rapidly advancing doom clock (SV). Don’t punish me for not being addicted to your game and putting in an hour or more a day, allow me to set my own schedule. Don’t punish me for having fun doing something past my virtual bedtime.

“Okay, so if you know what you’re looking for… why not just make that game?”

Oh, I’m not planning on making that game, in particular. It’d be nice, but I’ve got other plans.

And that’s your hint at what I’m thinking of accomplishing later on in 2017.
