Red rewatches Touch Your Heart: Episodes 15 & 16

I finally wrapped up this series a little while ago but life's been a little crazy and I just never got around to it. Oops. Also I got sucked into Pachinko...and Miss Marvel...and...let's just say I get distracted easily. XD

Anyway!!

Episode 15

Hooray! Yoon Seo and Jung Rok are back together! But of course they are. 😂

The fact that neither of them wanted to leave each other's side after getting back together was so sweet. ❤️ I thought it was cute how Jung Rok built a pillow wall when they went to bed together.

And then how he surprised her by cooking breakfast?! 😍

The hiding in the bathroom scene! 🤣🤣Too funny! I doubt many of Lee Dong Wook's fans were complaining about him getting soaked in the shower. 😜

The entire exchange with Jung Rok and Siwon thinking he's cracking up...taking up soccer...eating two servings of sushi...these guys...

Jung Rok getting all flustered and worried about the kiss in Yoon Seo's drama to the point of interfering and wanting to reduce it to a handshake? 😂

Ah...but then there was Dan and Choi...

The entire sequence of events that leads up to him spilling his heart to her...just...just guh. Legit when I first started watching this show he was the last person I expected to fall for Dan...so glad I was proven wrong. Their relationship is so beautifully sweet and pure. Choi...rather I should say Yoon Hyuk...has this deeply romantic side that is for the most part hidden by his boastful, sometimes narcissistic personality. I could easily seeing him being a Leo...gotta be the center of attention but also incredibly affectionate to those he loves. Moon Hee? Definitely a Pisces...fishies are dreamy and this girl definitely is. But getting back to my original point? These two are like two halves that make a whole...Yoon Hyuk grounds her proving she is deserving of being loved and she in turn adores him for it.

Much to the chagrin of their coworkers. 🤣 Or at least CEO Yeon.

Bonus points for a super adorable confession scene...seriously that was stupid cute. ❤️ Plus the way Moon Hee responded by more or less throwing herself at him? D'awww!!

Episode 16

This was an excellent finale and I'm happy with the way they wrapped everything up...and honestly my only complaint?

I want more of our lead couple being cute together and just more domestic cuteness with Moon Hee and Yoon Hyuk. Just these little breadcrumbs we're left with...GAH! Thank goodness I'm a fic writer. 😅 Seriously so many questions I still have! I want to know more about their families...what does Yoon Hyuk's mom think of Moon Hee? 🤔

Without spoiling things too much for any new viewers assuming you're reading this because you're honestly just curious about the show or perhaps bored I won't go into further details about the going's on of this episode but just say this...even into the finale I feel this show still kept things fun and interesting and honestly that's saying a lot. And also again why I say I wish we had more. It's also why I watched this show again. And why I'll probably revisit it in the future.

Kang Deoksun’s Love History (2017)

Plot:

A drama about Kang Deok Sun, a naive woman who inadvertently gets wrapped up in an independence movement after following a man she has a one-sided love for to Gyeongsang province, and how she grows through her experiences.

No tracks of note. The background music fit the drama special’s mood.

Overall:

If you don’t dig too deep you’ll go into this drama special expecting a rom-com. But that’s pretty far from what you get. Kang Deok Sun’s Love history is dedicated to the forgotten female independence fighters whose achievements throughout history have disappeared without a trace.

We meet Deok Sun as she runs through a field, stumbling in the mud. She's a simple, strong girl, but she’s got some way to go before she becomes a strong character. She’s very likeable though, with her thick satoori, and her one-sided-love of Seok Sam. She’s definitely too good for him.

Chasing after him to the big city she finds herself in an unknown world and she starts down her path of change from a “little girl” to an “independent” young woman.

Kim So Hye did a pretty good job bringing Deok Sun to life and making her believable. The surrounding cast was full of familiar faces who shone in their small roles.

Overall, I liked the story and thought it was worth a watch but it was not one that I would rewatch.

So because of that Business Proposal anon, I’m rewatching Touch Your Heart and I think the thing I love the MOST about Yoo In Na and Lee Dong Wook’s execution of their characters is they’re SO earnest. Lee Dong Wook isn’t your typical cold hearted lead, he’s just...mostly clueless, and when he figures it out, he’s 100% in, and invested in getting to know Oh Jin Shim and protecting her. And she’s SO invested in liking him, and understanding his quirks. They’re ADORABLE. I love this show.

Hello!

I’m rewatching BE (again) and I’m curious what you think of the timeline of jwds. Some people are like oh yeah they def did stuff/something after [insert arrest/clue/chase scene/homoerotic moment] and stuff like that. I personally think that while there was a lot of sexual tension going on, nothing really happened until the ds arrest scene which was basically a confession. If I had to add anything to what happened in that scene I would say the “missing” part is that I think ds stopped jw from full on confessing bc ds knew he was going to jail. He didn’t want anything to happen bc it would leave jw tied to him but also not really tied to him and he didn’t want jw to wait for him or feel trapped. Jw has had no one in his life to count on and be cared for by. Letting jw create that link between them only to be whisked off to prison two seconds later would exacerbate his abandonment issues. Homeboy literally cried over ds’s hands he would not have handled an acknowledgment of anything beyond “juwoon-a” well. Also I fully believe that jw did not visit him in prison and ds wouldn’t have allowed him to if he’d gone.

But yeah anyways those are my very messy thoughts lol. What do you think about the timeline? Do you think anything happened that wasn’t shown in the show and/or how things went at the end and after Nam Sang Bae’s death anniversary (I also think that was the first time they’d seen each other since ds got out of prison)?

to answer your questions: i honestly think part of my love for beyond evil is that there are some pretty ambiguous moments where it seems like dong sik and joo won hung around each other more than was seen on screen, so i personally love playing with whatever might have happened between them during that time.

that said, from a more technical perspective: i think the beauty of a lot of television shows (not just beyond evil, but especially beyond evil) is that there's always going to be an ambiguity of what happens where and what's shown on screen or not. i think true film theory professors/geeks could ramble for hours about the power of the camera in storytelling and how it completely changes the medium of what we know vs. what we don't. which is really all to say that i think since it's a show that has a camera that turns on and then turns off, beyond evil inherently is going to have scenes that probably happened but just aren't actually shown to the audience.

so just by default, i think there must have always been things happening between dong sik and joo won that just didn't happen in the show, and that's just by virtue that this is a television series that's made deliciously more ambiguous by director shim na yeon and writer kim su jin's creative choices.

but from a fan's perspective: oh yeah, i think dong sik and joo won absolutely had some closer will they-won't they moments that we didn't get on screen. not necessarily because the cast and creators cut them, but just talking about the characters themselves here--i like to think that joo won and dong sik had plenty tenser moments of just. figuring out whatever the hell is going on with their relationship.

and as a fan/fanfic writer, i definitely love playing with what could have happened in those kinds of moments. in some versions, i like the idea of one of the two of them crossing a line somewhere . . . and in other versions, i like the idea of the two of them telling themselves that what they have is enough, and neither of them will do a single thing about it until maybe a year or ten years after the events of beyond evil. but who knows! the world is our oyster when it comes to things like that. it's just always nice to see when people have different interpretations and different ideas of how joo won and dong sik might have finally gotten together :)

Red rewatches Touch Your Heart: Episodes 11-12

Taking a small pause from this to get caught up on Stranger Things. Because honestly? I’m an 80s child and I LOVE that show. Wanted to knock it out of the park with recaps and spoilers blowing up everywhere. XD

Anyway!!

Episode 11

Cripes what a wild ride!!

The actor they got to play Yoon Seo’s stalker was excellent. This guy really skeeved me out and he’s really good with his expressions. Honestly those eyes...holy shit!

Did I mention how much of a creep Yoon Seo’s stalker was? It’s pretty scary the lengths guy was willing to go to try and control her, including drugging her drink just to watch her sleep. Yikes.

Seeing him get punched out Jung Rok? So satisfying.

Even better? Watching Jung Rok stay and watch over Yoon Seo (Jin Sim) So cute and sweet! I may be more into the Ukulele couple (Dan x Choi) but these are so utterly adorable it warms my heart. <3

Speaking of Dan x Choi...

THIS ENTIRE SUBPLOT. Holy hell. XD Choi I don’t know where you find these women...

It was adorable watching Dan come to his defense. And her little tweed outfit. <3 I really loved her in the pink pantsuit too though. Very pretty. I think Yoon Seo would approve. :)

Which brings me to...

Episode 12

Overall this episode still gives me mixed feelings.

We get to see Yoon Seo (Jin Sim) and Jung Rok being stupidly cute with each other being all domestic and shopping together...

Playing tabletop games, (basically going out of his way to make her feel comfortable) and at the end....that happens. Just...just... :( I cried the first time, and I cried the second time watching them break up. I know I know they reconcile. GAH!

Thank God I got these two to keep me sane.

This scene...and continuing to watch Choi try to figure out what to do with these gasp feelings was the best part of the episode for me.

Brace yourselves, he’s about to fall so damned hard he might as well have had the literal rug pulled right out from under him.

Safe bet to say he secretly probably enjoys being manhandled by Miss Dan too. ;) That or he’s not used to a woman suddenly taking the lead.

Definitely check this one out if you haven’t already! You will not be disappointed.

5 K-drama supporting actresses who deserve more love

The title speaks for itself. "No small roles, only small actors" they say. Here are some of my favorite actresses known for playing supporting / guest roles and where you might have seen them. List created in no particular order. Gifs not mine!

Potential spoilers for the following series: Extraordinary Attorney Woo; Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha; and Hotel Del Luna.

Lee Bong-ryun

I was inspired to write this post because of her recent stint as feminist-activist Attorney Ryu in Extraordinary Attorney Woo (ep. 12), but I first noticed her in Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, where she plays the warm but no-nonsense zone chief Yeo Hwa Jeong.

Other incredible work can be seen in Sweet Home (her eerie-vibe in the trailer alone was enough to make me give it a shot) and Run On.

Yeom Hye-ran

With her recent Best Supporting Actress win at this year's Baeksang Awards for The Uncanny Counter, offers should be pouring in for Yeom Hye-ran. I'm not even surprised anymore when I see her in a show since she can fit in practically anywhere. From the annoying aunt in Goblin and the battered wife in Dear My Friends, to the ruler of the underworld in Mystic Pop-Up bar and the superpowered healer from The Uncanny Counter, she definitely has the range.

Jin Kyung

I always mix up Jin Kyung with Lee El (whom I also love) because they carry a certain elegance and mystery that make them stand out no matter how little screen time they have. Currently featured as Tae Su-mi in Extraordinary Attorney Woo, she has been effective in making viewers speculate, sympathize, admire, and dislike her with the brief appearances she has made.

I've also enjoyed her work in Melancholia as Noh Jung-ah, Dr. Romantic as Nurse Oh Myung-shim, and Pinocchio as Song Cha-ok.

Seo Yi-sook

I paid more attention to Hotel Del Luna because I was constantly on the lookout for the next Mago shin sister. She plays six of them in this drama and they are so distinct from each other that you may forget they're played by the same person. Due to her charisma, gravelly voice, and amazing diction, she often gets cast as the CEO's antagonistic wife or a competent authority figure whom you're not too sure whose side she's on. Whatever it may be, she always makes it count. One hell of a singing voice too (watch her sing on JTBC's Hot Singers).

Other notable credits: Terius Behind Me; The World of the Married; Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol.

Cha Chung-hwa

Known to many fans as Court Lady Choi in Mr. Queen and one of the North Korean ahjummas in Crash Landing On You, I've come to appreciate not only Cha Chung-hwa's comedic timing but also her immense talent in subtle dramatic acting. While I initially wasn't the biggest fan of Nam-suk the town gossip in Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, I was impressed by her heartfelt portrayal of a grieving mother who uses gossip and humor as therapy. Other wonderful roles and guest appearances include: Hospital Playlist 2; Hotel Del Luna; and On the Verge of Insanity.
