The more time I spend on social media, I see more and more photos and videos of people talking about the fake ❌ sneakers, bags and watches that they’ve bought.

The fakes have gotten better over the decades, but they’re still fakes.

Are we seeing more fake sneakers because consumers want them and refuse to spend the reseller prices? 🤔

#OnThisDay 30-years ago Spike Lee’s “Malcolm X” was released in theaters.

Here’s a photo of Joe Louis & me in front of Hall 14 at Bryant University!

I bought the X hat at Spike’s Joint, which used to be on the corner of DeKalb Ave. and South Elliott Place (Fort Greene-Brooklyn).

Side note: I was wearing the Nike Air Trainer SC High “34” (Bo Jackson).

The Converse Brillo kicks are special and immediately make me think about my Grandmother and the family-owned 🇻🇮 restaurant where I used Brillo soap 🧼 pads.

Colors are very important to me.

I was always drawn to bright colors like neon, orange, yellow, and red.

It’s tied directly to being born and raised in the #USVirginIslands and seeing lots of colors throughout the Caribbean.

Clothes in the ‘80s were pushing lots of colors and neon colors were big from brands like #OceanPacific, VUARNET, Benetton Group, Esprit, and #CrossColours.

I loved it!

Then, there was a massive shift to more earth tones in the mid-90s, and it had a lot to do with movies and music videos that explored culturally-based themes. (Think: Janet Jackson’s “That’s The Way Love Goes” music video.)

When you think of the ‘90s, what colors come to mind for you?

Tarik Sykes posted the Viotech Air Trainer 3 sneakers in the OSD-Obsessive Sneaker Disorder FB group and it made me think about the current state of sneakers that are being released & sold by Nike, adidas, Reebok, New Balance, Puma and Converse.

While this response is specific to these Nike sneakers, the ‘Sneaker Market’ is really jacked up right now and I believe that now more than ever, the key to getting the sneakers that you really wants is to employ PATIENCE.

Here’s my response to Tarik’s post:

I think that while the colors will be on point, the materials will feel cheap like many of the retro Nike sneakers that we’ve been seeing over the the past 10-years.

Also, while these will sell good now, people who buy them and hold onto them will have to see them because over the next 90 days they’ll need money to buy groceries, pay the mortgage/ rent or pay a utility bill, etc.

So glad to find out that the proceeds of the @Puma x Nipsey Hussle capsule will go to the Neighborhood Nip Foundation when Puma releases it on September 5, 2019.

While Nipsey is no longer with us in the physical, his legacy lives through all of the people that loved him and vibed to his music.

It’s hoodie season and there’s no better item of clothing that I like more than a hoodie.

Seeing ‘fashion brands’ adopt the hoodie let’s me know that what we did in the ‘80s and ‘90s for fashion set the trends for what we’re seeing now!

Mom used to often say,”What’s old is new.” when referencing the Rap songs that I was listening to because so many of the songs sampled from the classics for the ‘60s and ‘70s that she listened to.

For too long females haven’t been treated properly, in general, and certainly in sneaker culture or from the sneaker companies!

One would think that the simple fact that none of us would be here if it were not for a woman, let’s me know that RESPECT is something that not everyone is taught or knows how to show!

So, when I heard about this capsule from @Reebok , I’m not going to front, initially I was skeptical because the Reebok that I was introduced to in the ‘80s paid attention to women and ‘went there’ with aerobic and cross training kicks for women!

Then, they lost their focus and ‘chased’ what the other brands were going after such as men’s sports like baseball, football and basketball when they could’ve covered them all.

Thank you Reebok for getting your shit together and doing what needed to be done years ago!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👣❤️🙏🏾🤲🏾
