Meet the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Trim Levels

Jeep loves to offer its customers a plethora of choices. At first glance, the Grand Cherokee comes with six trim-level options. These start with Laredo and build to Altitude, Limited, Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve.

There are many options with this vehicle though, like the ability to get it with 4xe or as a plug-in hybrid. You can also choose to have a standard two-row SUV or a much larger three-row vehicle. These additional options add the Laredo X, Altitude X, Limited 4xe PHEV, and Trailhawk 4xe PHEV. Additionally, there are the Overland 4xe PHEV, Summit 4xe PHEX, and Summit Reserve 4×3 PHEV.

Performance

The standard engine in the 2023 Grand Cherokee is a 3.6-liter V6 engine that delivers a maximum of 293 horsepower. The base-level Laredo has a maximum towing capacity of 6,200 with this engine.

The Limited, Trailhawk, Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve have an available plug-in hybrid system. This 4xe system includes a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder turbocharged engine and a 14.0-kWh battery. This system delivers up to 375 horsepower, for an incredibly powerful plug-in hybrid vehicle.

Off-Roading

There are plenty of available off-roading features that can make this vehicle a real show-stopper. The peak choice for this is the Trailhawk 4xe, which comes with a 10.9-inch ground clearance. However, all of these models have impressive capabilities that will manage most terrains, especially as you add custom features. For example, the available Selec-Terrain Traction Management System adds additional driving modes including Auto, Rock, Snow, Mud/Sand, and Sport.

Infotainment

The entry-level touchscreen is an 8.4-inch system with hot spot capabilities, Bluetooth streaming, voice command, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The standard audio setup is a 6-speaker system.

There are plenty of available upgrades as you move up the trim levels, all the way to a 19-speaker sound system. The top-of-the-line sound system includes a 10-inch subwoofer and a 17-inch amplifier from McIntosh. There is also an available 10.1-inch touchscreen with available TomTom navigation.

Safety Assist

Jeep is offering some popular safety-assist features as standard, including adaptive cruise control and rear parking sensors with rear park assist. There is also a blind spot warning, an active-lane management system, and cross-path detection.

UTV or a utility terrain vehicle is a very useful little machine. Farmers love them because they help get around large areas of land easily and quickly, even when carrying some cargo. Some other professionals use them like mobile tool boxes. You can also see UTVs working at golf fields. Or in Russian forces rushing through dangerous minefields.

The defenders of Ukraine are actively destroying Russian military equipment. They are burning all tanks, armoured personnel transporters, infantry fighting vehicles and other machines that Russians dare to use on one of their large assaults. There is no denying that Russian forces are pushing through huge armoured losses in Ukraine. However, the situation might actually be worse than people think, because Russians are now using simple Chinese UTVs to traverse deadly Ukrainian minefields.

Russia must have recently acquired a large number of Chinese DesertCross UTVs. These tiny little vehicles are quite capable off-road, which would be useful on a farm or in some plantation. However, Russians use them for their relentless attacks against the Ukrainian positions.

Dmytro Likhovoy, a representative of the Tavria defence forces in Southern Ukraine, noted that the Russians are still trying to bypass minefields and barricades near the village of Robotino in the Zaporizhia region. For this, they use the lightest vehicles and some of them resemble golf carts. The DesertCross UTV is probably what he is talking about.

Likhovoy said that Russian golf carts are exploding all over the place. Dozens of such machines have already disappeared in Southern Ukraine. They have absolutely no armour, they are not that powerful and they are not that fast. Russian golf carts may be small, but they still detonate anti-tank mines. Russian soldiers know this, but hope to slip between the mines. FPV drones enjoy these unarmoured targets too.

Ukrainians see this as a sign that the Russian reserves of armoured vehicles are slowly coming to an end. It is obvious that they are using UTVs because they are cheap and available. However, for the purposes of the truth it needs to be said that the defenders of Ukraine have used UTVs in military duties too.

These small vehicles were used for quick patrols. Some of them were armed with anti-tank missiles, machine guns and have been referred to as “Mad Max” buggies. The difference is that Ukraine did not start this war and their military command is not sending unarmoured UTVs into Russian minefields.

It is unlikely that Russia is actually out of armoured vehicles. However, things break down and minefields are costing a lot of equipment. That is probably why Russians are now using UTVs to launch ill-fated attacks against Ukrainian positions.
