Havven, an Ethereum blockchain-based cryptocurrency payment network designed to function like PayPal or credit card networks, is now attempting to gain traction with its stablecoin.
While Havven's existing coin (HAV) isn't yet on many exchanges, the payment network is gearing up to put its Havven token and Nomin stablecoin on the EOS blockchain. (It's already on the Ethereum blockchain.)
For the uninitiated, stablecoins are simply cryptocurrencies that seek to maintain a steady price relative to other assets – usually US dollars. But stablecoins for other currencies and non-fiat assets are also now coming online. Havven's is one of them.
What Is Havven?
Havven is designed to be a decentralized, self-sufficient payment network that allows users to store and transfer value without relying on fiat money or external collateral.
In essence, Havven's goal, as it notes in its white paper, is to create a decentralized alternative to SWIFT, PayPal, credit card and other centralized payment networks that have "absolute control over the value within the network, so any transaction conducted within them may be blocked or reversed at any time." Also noted is the fact that in centralized payment networks, fees are typically much greater than the cost of maintaining the network, with ever greater profits motivating companies rather than quality and affordability.
Havven's approach uses collateralization by reserves of the Havven (HAV) token, which backs the value of the network's secondary Nomin cryptocurrency, a stablecoin with a floating supply designed as a secondary mechanism to help stabilize its price.
As of writing, Havven has launched only one type of Nomin, the nUSD, which is backed by HAV, but plans to introduce "multi-currency nomins" by the end of November, 2018 (nEURO, nAUD, nJPY, nKRW, and nXAU).
Havven vs. Other Stablecoins
There are several ways stablecoins go about stabilising their prices against fiat.
Fiat-collateralized stablecoins store government-issued currencies (e.g., USD) to back their value, holding the same amount or more of fiat money as there are circulating stablecoins. Although backed by fiat, this method requires users to trust a central entity and/or its auditors.
Cryptocurrency-collateralized stablecoins solve the issue of having to trust a central entity, but create another problem by relying on volatile prices of cryptocurrencies to back them. Even if a stablecoin is significantly over-collateralized, there is no guarantee that the value of the collateral will maintain sufficient value. MakerDAO is probably the most well-known cryptocurrency-backed stablecoin. As mentioned, this is also partly how Havven functions.
Non-collateralized coins, meanwhile, attempt to control their money supply to affect the price on the market. For example, if a stablecoin's value falls, the controlling entity may buy up coins with reserve capital, and could either lock them out of the market, or burn (destroy) them. If the value raises, coins may be minted (created) and put on the market. This can be expensive and is obviously limited by the amount of reserve capital available. However, some cryptocurrencies use different types of mint-and-burn approaches. Havven, for example, relies on network participants to burn and mint Nomin stablecoins without requiring capital to buy up coins on the market.
Note: Havven isn't the only project working on non-collateralized stablecoins. For starters, the similarly named Haven also is.
Collateralization with a Spin
Although at first glance, Havven's stablecoin system may seem complicated, once broken down into its components, it's fairly simple.
Havven, acting as collateral for Nomins, gets its value from fees generated in the network. That's because HAV holders receive dividends from network fees when they "lock" their HAV in a smart contract. The Nomin's stability relies on this locked-in value, as HAV tokens are designed to overcollateralize Nomins.
When a Havven user puts their HAV in an escrow smart contract, a nUSD, for example, is automatically minted for each HAV and is listed for sale on a decentralized exchange at $1.00. The user then receives network fees while their HAV is locked in the smart contract. To get the escrowed HAV back, the user must buy back the nUSD (also at $1.00), after which the nUSD is burned.
Havven uses an algorithm to adjust transaction fees, and therefore network fee dividends to HAV holders, which incentivizes (or doesn't) the escrowing of HAV, and thus, the minting of Nomins.
As the Havven white paper explains, this distributed collateral pool aims to solve the problem of having to use collateral assets outside of the blockchain:
"...whether a system uses real-world assets or cryptoassets to back a stable token, if the value of the collateral is uncorrelated with the demand for the token, then the system is vulnerable to external price shocks. Large corrections can destroy the value of collateral without any change in the demand for the token issued against it."
Havven has the goal of maintaining at least 80% over-collateralization of Nomins by HAV, though the network has maintained a much higher collateralization ratio since its launch, as of writing (currently, collateralization sits at about 840 percent for all HAV, and 350 percent for locked HAV).
So far, nUSD has maintained a fairly stable price, with only a couple of brief forays out of the $1.00 range since launching in June 2018 – a brief dip to close to $0.90 around July 24 and a jump to $1.08 on November 1. In both cases, the network seems to have quickly corrected itself.
A Multi-Blockchain Stablecoin?
Though its stablecoin has parallels to other projects, the most notable aspect of Havven may be that it will soon be on more than one blockchain. HAV and Nomins will be launching on the EOS blockchain by the end of 2018, while also remaining on the Ethereum blockchain.
"Every blockchain needs a scalable and stable medium of exchange that's resistant to censorship," Kain Warwick, founder of Havven, told ETHNews. "As EOS supports an increasing number of dApps, we see the need to build a payments layer to improve usability for the entire EOS ecosystem."
Warwick said they chose EOS over other blockchains because of its quickly growing developer community and its ability to support high transaction volumes without fees.
"There are major advantages to having Havven on more than one blockchain," he said, continuing:
"Blockchain agnosticism means that the success of Havven isn't tied to the success of any one blockchain. We don't know yet which blockchains will still be operating in five or more years, and there's a good chance blockchain exclusivity this early on will lead to fragmentation throughout the entire ecosystem. Diversifying Havven among the most promising blockchains will ensure that we're well positioned to provide decentralized stability for the future, whatever happens."
Warwick said Nomins will have the same name on both blockchains, but with the extra designation of nUSD-ETH and nUSD-EOS, for example. Havven plans to drop 50% of the new HAV-EOS tokens to existing HAV-ETH holders to ensure that that people who supported Havven early on will have a major portion of the EOS system, according to Warwick.
Havven will launch on EOS before the end of 2018 but hasn't ruled out launching on other blockchains besides Ethereum and EOS in the future.
Havven hopes its method of combining collateralization with the minting and burning of the Nomin stablecoins based on demand helps to offset some of the problems associated with cryptocurrency collateralization. The stablecoin already doesn't rely on a central authority to burn or mint tokens – or on outside fiat money to back its value.
Obviously, if Havven can demonstrate long-term price stability with its stablecoin, its payment network could provide a real alternative to existing solutions. However, as with many stablecoins, more testing and long-term viability must be established, especially as Havven expands to multiple blockchains and multicurrency Nomins.

Havven Launching First Decentralised Multicurrency Stablecoin

Havven Launching First Decentralised Multicurrency Stablecoin
Twitter Facebook LinkedIn
This is a submitted sponsored story. CCN urges readers to conduct their own research with due diligence into the company, product or service mentioned in the content below.
This month, Havven will launch the first decentralised stablecoin system in a variety of currencies all backed by a single cryptoasset collateral pool. The first batch of currencies released includes the Euro (nEURO), Japanese Yen (nJPY), Korean Won (nKRW), the Australian Dollar (nAUD), and gold (nXAU).
These new stablecoins will complement Havven’s USD-pegged stablecoin, nUSD, which launched in June this year, and further currencies will be added in the near future. Havven uses a novel stability mechanism in which its stablecoins, nomins, are backed by collateral tokens, HAV. HAV holders receive fees generated by nomin transactions.
Decentralised stablecoins can be used to make stable payments and provide a censorship-resistant alternative to fiat-backed stablecoins such as Tether. A decentralised stablecoin denominated in a variety of currencies will enable adoption in many countries that do not use USD as their unit of account, and will also open up new forex trading possibilities.
Havven’s ability to support synthetic assets in different currencies is enabled by its ability to track the debt of each participant (i.e. the ratio of stablecoins to locked collateral) without needing to adjust the debt individually for every change, such as fluctuating currency values and HAV holders entering or exiting the system.
Future nomin currencies to be launched will include nCNY, nGBP, nBTC, and nETH. Another currency will also be decided in a community vote by HAV holders.
A date for the first release has not been announced, but it is expected in late November.

She was walking across the street and then she wasn't.
"Tragic, isn't it?"
In which Nio has to make a choice, but neither of her options are very good.
Here it is! Part of Xion’s backstory in the NXAU! An explanation for how she became a Nobody, even though her homeworld is Shibuya!
[Major TWEWY spoilers ahead!]

actually, I’m gonna talk about it more tonight
- Xion joins the Organization a few weeks after the announcement that everyone at CO died. Some (Demyx and Luxord) thought it was in rather poor taste.
- She was particularly unstable for the first few weeks - tbh if Xemnas and co. weren’t so desperate for new members she wouldn’t have made the cut. It takes her around a month to be fully stabilized.
- She was paired with Roxas a lot because Roxas was still going on baby missions (pretty much) and they were a good way to ease her into the structure of the Organization and using her new powers etc. They bonded over mutual not knowing what the fuck was happening.
- She had large memory gaps due to the trauma involved with like... dying. She, like Roxas, didn’t quite understand what she was. After she stabilized the memories started coming back. She realized she (and everyone else) was basically dead. It hit her hard. She distances herself from Roxas for a bit and even after she warms back up she’s noticeably more closed off. She tries to hide their true nature from Roxas because He Is Baby.
- They go from being besties to more like Xion being an older sister. Roxas resents this as much as his fledgling heart can let him because he doesn’t like feeling babied or coddled. He knows she’s not telling him something and is frustrated by it.
- Axel comes back. Oh no Roxas has TWO sibling-like friends who try to shield him from how awful the world is. (Except Axel is much more callous about it and Xion screams in the background.) (He gets better though.) (Mostly through threats.)
- Since Axel is back to be Roxas’ babysitter, Xion is shuffled between Saix and Luxord. She helps with surveillance between worlds using her mirrors. She’s mainly paired with Saix because her role involves lots of reports. :/ Saix isn’t as much of a dick, but he’s still kind of a dick. (Xion still hangs out with Axel and Roxas when she can)
- I just like pairing her with Luxord bc I can see them fucking off and playing cards. He tells her tarot. She tries her best to scry. Pseudo-psychic buddies.
- Anyway blah blah Days
- Roxas has a huge falling out with Axel and Xion because of everything they hid from him regarding his nature and what the Organization does. He leaves because he doesn’t want to be a tool for someone else anymore. (And also because he’s having an identity crisis and wants to kick Sora’s ass.)
- Axel and Xion are ordered to track him down and bring him back. Neither really work that hard at it. Axel replaces the Saix fight, except he throws it because he doesn’t want to actually hurt the kid. Roxas knows he threw the fight and it honestly pisses him off more.
- Xion confronts him in the dark city and tries to tell her piece. He ignores her and she does nothing as he walks away. *Cue Roxas getting kidnapped*
- Xion isn’t apart of the Twilight Town Rescue Mission, because the Organization doesn’t exactly trust her after letting Roxas go.
- When Axel defects from the Organization to go after Sora, he asks Xion to run with him. She refused, partially out of fear of death (and Saix) and partially because There Has To Be Another Way.
- Xion: Maybe I can talk to Sora and he’ll remember us??? We don’t have to kill him!!
Axel: You Are So Good But So Naive.
- She’ll appear to Sora near the cavern of remembrance area (bc crystals) and she’ll try to talk to him. Sora would be aggressive but also shaken for reasons he doesn’t know. She doesn’t fight him during those confrontations, but she gets more and more desperate. (In the context of this being a game, I’ll say these moments are optional as you work your way deeper into the cavern.)
- I haven’t decided which Disney world she would haunt, but I want to say Halloweentown because there isn’t any real Nobody presence there and I want her to look like a haunted Victorian doll with her creepy cobwebbed mirrors.
- And also because the Halloweentown world is pretty sympathetic to the pain of creatures without hearts (the experiment that steals presents to feel something) Xion would try to tie that into the Organization and what they’re trying to do.
- She’s finally fully confronted in the Dark City, after Axel’s sacrifice and before Sora storms the castle. At this point, she realizes that talking doesn’t do any good and she goes Apeshit. (Ok not really, but she’s Actually Fighting now) She keeps turning Sora’s reflection into Roxas to try and force the memories out of him.
- It doesn’t work
- She’s defeated.
- Her death scene is similar in that she turns into crystal as she dies. She starts crying (!!!) and says that all she wanted to do was see her best friend again and tell him she was sorry.
- Sora replies, “It’s alright. You were only trying to protect me.” Except it’s not Sora! It’s Roxas speaking through Sora! Xion knows her words finally got through and she dies smiling.
- Cue Roxas vs. Sora battle bc holy shit is Roxas PISSED
- blah blah blah
- Clocktower scene but now Xion is there too. They all properly apologize for everything. Xion hands Roxas a crystal sphere. “Look familiar?” She says, smiling. Roxas damn near cries. (She gave him and Axel both crystal spheres a while ago back when things were kind of good. Namine used this memory and translated it to the digital Twilight Town) (Roxas lost his original, so Xion gave him a new one he can’t lose ;o; )
- The Keyblade Sora gets after this battle is based on those crystal spheres. (The keychain is the actual one Sora’s had the whole time) It gives a boost in magic and has auto-block.

since my nobody headcanons include nobodies having the characteristics of their elements here are some things about nobody au Xion:
-  Her voice is unnervingly clear. Like a bell, or glasses clinking together.
- If she gets stressed/unstable her form starts to break into fractals, almost like a kaleidoscope.
- when light hits her in a certain way there’s a rainbow effect
- her face reflects someone important to you, especially if you’re in distress or distracted by something. it’s a split second feeling that she looks like them, even though her face doesn’t physically change. if there’s no one important to you at the moment, her face reflects yourself.
- if she falls or gets hit, there’s a faint sense of glass breaking. she comes across as very fragile, which leads people to underestimate her.
- her eyes are reflective. like a cat in the dark.

i love your hc xion so much!! i was thinking about if she would still interact with riku and namine and i had an idea that while she was observing the world with her mirrors she might catch onto their plot to get roxas to rejoin sora and be like HMM and try to protect her friend. what do you think?
Yeah, I like that. During her surveillance missions, she catches wind of the plot and reports it. Like in Days, she’s the one tasked with tracking down and capturing Riku - the “imposter”. Xion and Riku both have somewhat of an understanding because they’d both do anything to protect their friends, but they remain on opposite sides.
Because of all of this she realizes that Sora is Roxas’ Somebody that’s still, somehow, around. She shares this with Axel, who already knows about Sora. So they both know about Sora and they both agree to keep that hidden from Roxas because they both agree that Roxas is his own person and doesn’t need to be burdened with that knowledge.
This is a major reason for the eventual falling out that would lead to Roxas running away.
Xion never personally meets Namine, but Namine knows of her in the same way she knows everything else.

i read something you wrote for the nobody xion au where xions somebody name was "nio" might i propose "oni" like the yokai (i dunno we got 3 letters to work with and "noi" and "oin" are just silly names)
I don't like Oni bc of the yokai/ogre connotations and the only other name I can think of is Ino and that just reminds me of Naruto.
I like Nio bc it's Different. I feel like it also fits with her role because she's a "new/replacement." Also like Neo from the Matrix like c'mon. She's got the leather trenchcoat and everything.
And tbh in the end the Somebody name doesn't really matter.
