Y’all. I’m watching Bible, Ta and Perth try to spell things in Thai, and I. am. HOWLING. This is easily the funniest thing I’ve seen on the BOC Youtube site in ... maybe forever. Perth’s “Whaaaaat????” Bible’s “WHY? WHY???” Ta’s constant little “fuck”s. The point when they’re all three so baffled they just fall into English at the same time. Bible’s question mark(s).
At the same time, wow, I’m a little bit weirded out watching Bible, because practically everything he’s doing here is uncomfortably familiar. The self-deprecation, the expectation of failure so that you joke about it as a way to undersell yourself and soften the blow, the constant self-questioning and inability to be secure in any of your efforts, and at the very same time the focus on getting it right, the need to not only be right but to be the first to present your answer, the sudden intensity at the point of actual performance - the visible change in demeanor at the choke point - the way performance outstrips self-presentation by 1000 percent. It’s a ton of very little things that all add up to something that’s wigging me out a little bit, and honestly, I’m trying not to read too much into it or be too weird about it, because I could way too easily slip into a pit of projection and start wondering about a potentially seething cauldron of insecurities just under baby boy’s surface.
ANYWAY. I gotta go watch the last bit of this. I’ve had to rewind 15 times already, and I’ve probably woken up the entire house, cackling at various points. (Perth: “Because I KNOW.” In English. With that Aus accent. I’m D Y I N G. Perth, I [heart] u.)
(ETA: “Big-boss.” Ta: “OK, the name ‘Big’ ...” Bible: “NO. It’s not a name. Don’t reference it.” (emphasis mine) Me: :wheezing: LIKE WHAT? YOU’RE GOING TO CONJURE HIM UP IF YOU SAY IT? OMG.)
(ETA 2: Staff: “Do you want to ask the Royal Institute a question?” Their faces: :|   Me: :flailing:  I think they would very much like to ask the Royal Institute some questions, actually.)
