Pour rejoindre Brisbane nous avons décidé de longer la côte.

Pélicans, eau splendide et surprises ont été au rendez-vous, comme avoir la chance d’apercevoir d’encore plus près des baleines, en provenance directe du Sud.

Une dizaine d’entre elles étaient visibles depuis les points de Hastings Point et de Norries Head. Nous avons réussis à capter certaines de leurs prouesses.

According to historical reports #NorriesHead was once an 'island' in that it was surrounded by water, with the waves sweeping between the coast and the mainland in rough storms. These days there's a rock wall that protects the spit and forms the cove - installed by sand miners who scoured the Tweed Coast’s beaches for rutile and other heavy minerals in the 1950s and 1960s. Cabarita Beach and the Bogangar coastal region have just been named as the latest addition to Australia's list of National Surfing Reserves (February 2018). Brad Farmer, a Tourism Australia Beach Ambassador and part of the board of National Surfing Reserves, who has been instrumental in protecting and promoting Australia's coastline for decades, said "While declaring Surfing Reserves at such beautiful places like Caba are largely symbolic in nature, it acknowledges the past, the present and importantly to future generations, that surfing beaches are a valuable and integral part of our national identity and way of life and need to be respected, preserved and shared,” Mr Farmer said. Being almost completely surrounded by water, Hastings Point is a fishermans paradise of sorts with every type of fishing on offer right next to each other. You can fish off the rocks at the headland, drop in a line straight off the beach on either side of the rocks or jump in a kayak or fish from the shores in the estuary system. Its rare that you can catch almost every type of fish you see on those big signs (like the one above!). Hastings Point is a spectacular place for bird-watching and bush walking, the two going hand in hand with each other. Here you can see a large variety of bird species including Indigo Buntings, Albatross, Australian finches and fragile shore nesting birds such as the Little Tern, Beach Stone Curlew, Red-Capped Plovers and both the Sooty and Australian Pied Oystercatchers. Due to the headland at Hastings Point protecting the waves from prevailing NE winds, the 600m long beach is popular with surfers during summer months and there is an excellent left running off the point as well as a righthander that breaks towards the rocks along the inside gutter.
