What if he does try animating again, and because he doesn't realize that an animation from can come to life that is where Second comes from? So still an accident? Like
Chosen: Alan, it's time for bed
Stick!noogai!: I'm not done yet!
Chosen: *crosses arms*
stick!noogai: fine...
Second: *jumps out when nobody is watching*
i've thought about it but sadly i don't think he'd try drawing with the pen for anything other than inanimate objects after Dark! partially because Victim gives him the death glare if he even considers it (for obvious reasons)
though this does give me the image of very, very, very small second. like
Tumblr media
VERY small.

🍄Blue: What detail in the series that seems to be ignored or missed by the fandom or canon that you want to talk about?
Original ask game here
Hmm. Well, I'm not entirely sure. I think something I'd like to go more in-depth into is the idea of stick city and the fact that there was a town that had a lot of sticks that looked a lot like "Striker" but we never see any of it in previous or later scenes of the city. Only full head different colored sticks, for the most part. That's a little odd right?
Honestly I'd love more elaboration on Rocket-corp's whole thing. They seem to be making computers and monitors? Rocket is on both Dark's monitor and the monitor of the machine that killed Gold, right? What exactly do they do? Are they just a tech industry with their own purposes on the side?
...I think it'd be funny to talk a tiny bit about how Alan's cursor is now white with a thick black outline, since Showdown, after it was 'revived' when it had been a normal cursor (white with a thin outline) in AvA 1-3 and then black in AvA 4 when he used the keyboard shortcuts to get himself a new mouse. And the fact that his mouse is a little bigger than AlexCrafter's--was that a conscious choice to make the mouse bigger?
In Lush Caves, Red was actively trying to get away and Orange wasn't letting up. Red was running. I think it'd be nice if people incorporated that into Orange's character a little more. All the hollowheads escalate things fast and hard.
idk there's a LOT to talk about, there's so many little details. It's really cool to think about!!

I've seen a lot of post-Wanted ideas suggesting that Victim is envious of the relationship Orange has with Alan, but what if it's not about that. What if it's not the relationship that Victim envies.
After all, Chosen was the one the mercs were hunting down. They only got orders to bring Orange in when he appeared and interfered during their active pursuit of Chosen.
And Chosen...didn't have a very enviable relationship with noogai, to say the least.
So why, if the relationship with their creator is the source of Victim's contention, would he focus on Chosen?
Orange's and Alan's relationship is something that's developed with time, and communication, and honest effort on the part of both parties involved. But they began as two enemies extending a cautious truce because they wanted something from each other. Orange's and Alan's relationship was only even possible because Alan chose to spare Orange, and why did he do this?
There's no denying that they've come far since then, but still...whatever his reasons may be in the present day, Alan originally kept Orange around because his art skills made him valuable to Alan.
Orange got to live because the animator found a way to make use of him.
Now let's consider Chosen.
Given how noogai handled Victim when he got out of hand, you'd think he'd handle Chosen in a similar way. Especially since Chosen got much more out of hand. But, no. The animator doesn't simply rid himself of Chosen.
Chosen got to live because the animator found a way to make use of him.
Of course, there are important differences between them. Orange got a say in their terms; Chosen certainly did not. Orange was utilized in a way that enabled his skills to flourish, and allowed him some agency in their application; Chosen had limits and restrictions imposed upon his capabilities, and little to no choice in what manner him impeded skills were implemented. Orange is free to come and go as he pleases, but has elected to remain on the computer voluntarily; Chosen was held in captivity, and escaped the moment an opportunity popped up. Orange was released; Chosen freed himself. Alanspc is home, to Orange, and the animator is part of that; Chosen has only ever returned to Alanspc in times of crisis, and it's never been for the sake of the animator.
Orange is happy, with his creator.
Chosen suffered, under his creator.
But.
When you take away all the context surrounding Orange's and Chosen's respective histories with their creator and look at just the simplified timeline of events, what do you get?
The animator defeated Orange, and then kept him, alive.
The animator defeated Chosen, and then kept him, alive.
And what must that look like, to Victim?
Victim, who fought and fought for every second he got, and was dismissed as worthless? Victim, who battled the animator nearly to a standstill without even leaving the animation window, all without powers, using wits and resourcefulness alone, only to be brushed away? Victim, who did so much with the little time he had that he was still on the animator's mind when noogai created Chosen, and yet wasn't worth keeping around?
Chosen went on to spend almost five years on the computer, after his defeat. Would it matter to Victim, that Chosen spent those near-five years enslaved and miserable? Or can Victim only see the near-five years of life that Chosen got to have while Victim was denied?
Victim lived for fewer than two minutes. Quality of life might be negligible next to having a life to live at all.
He might not realize that the animator's decisions to spare Chosen and Orange were directly tied to how much control the animator could maintain over them. He might not understand that he was noogai's first living stick, and mistakes were bound to be made. He might not understand how noogai has changed, and how this has changed the way noogai sees stickfigures. He might not realize that the animator doesn't keep sticks anymore, doesn't determine their right to live based on any notions of usefulness that they could provide to him, doesn't make them stay. He might not believe that, given a second chance, Alan would do better by him.
All that matters to Victim is that the animator saw something in Orange and Chosen. Something that he didn't see in Victim. Even though Victim proved himself countless times over, in the fewer-than-two minutes he got.

[Originally drawn: May, 2021]
AvA Mafia AU! concept art! with the original idea created with @k1ttyadventurer
Here's a little rundown of this AU:
Char!Alan created Chosen as the head of the gang with Dark as his right-hand man and Victim was going to be the, well, the victim of the story in the animation. Second was going to be the frontman, basically running a small restaurant as a cover-up for the group’s illegal business. But as said above, teenage Noogai eventually gave up on the project but at this point, all of the sticks had become sentient so Noogai let them live on his desktop.
Everything is all good and fine. Everyone’s friends with each other but there’s also a nagging feeling of emptiness. They all realize, “Man, I still want to do mafia stuff” and then subsequently, realize they have access to the interweb and if they wanted, could start ACTUALLY doing mafia stuff.
They create a Mafia gang on the Interspace and Noogai is none the wiser.
And then, comes along 4 brightly colored sticks looking for an open positions in the Noogai Gang. And Yellow convinces (blackmails) them to let the Color Squad into the Family. ^^
(Keep in mind, when I mean Mafia stuff, I mean it in a very movie/video game-esque manner. Everything is very idealized and nothing is too realistic. It’s supposed to be a fun AU!)
As seen above, Purple is also in this AU but they're part of a rival gang called the "Kingdom" with it's boss, King and his "brutes".
If you wanna read the Oneshot I wrote to accompany this, you can find it here!
[The First Meeting - AvA Mafia AU]
<= v =>
Basic Character Info!
The Original 4 (the Hollow Heads): Created by a teen Noogai, have since continued using his username as the name for their Mafia organization, known as the Noogai Gang.
Chosen (He/Him): The Head Boss, has all his usual powers. The brains of the operation, Chosen spends most of his time trying to organize everything and everyone.
Dark (He/They): The Right Hand Man, the Enforcer role and a skilled coder. Dark enjoys his job a lot and doesn't like how easily RYGB were accepted into the group.
Victim (Any Pronouns): Originally supposed to be the person getting attacked in the original animation but since it never got finished, their role was never solidified. As a result, they have the ability to change their color and they use it to be a "master of disguise". Their original color is black but they switched it to a dark gray so they don't match with Chosen.
Second (Any Pronouns): The Front-Man of the group. They run a diner in the Interspace to help cover up the groups illegal activities. Don't let their warm demeanor fool you though, their hands are just as dirty as the others.
The Color Squad (RYGB): 4 stick figures from a fighting game that got bored of it and decided to pursue other interests.
Yellow (They/Them): the de facto "leader" of the group. Yellow is extremely skilled in coding and hacking. They're the one who did most of the research into finding potential mafia-style organizations to join.
Red (He/Him): Red is the hand-to-hand fighting expert. He loves getting into fights and isn't afraid of getting hurt.
Blue (They/She/He): Blue has a mastery over various poisons and other ways to silently kill. They are also the stealthiest of the group.
Green (He/They): The weapons expert. Green knows how to wield any sort of weaponry in combat. Whether it be firearms, blades, or a bo staff, Green can use them all.
The Kingdom: An older more established rival gang to the Noogai gang.
King (He/Him): The elusive leader of the Kingdom, King rules his corner of the illegal market with powerful efficiency. Although rarely spotted, some say they've seen him strike down opposers with one swipe of his staff.
Purple (They/Them): Purple is one of the higher ranking members of the Kingdom. They're usually sent out on scoping missions to make sure the Kingdom's assets aren't being tampered with.
Others:
Noogai/Alan: The creator of the hollow heads. He lets them live on his desktop and do whatever they want as long as his stuff doesn't get destroyed. In this universe, Alan never goes on to create the Animator vs Animation series and instead works on other unrelated animations. Noogai is unaware the sticks started a mafia gang and the sticks want to keep it that way. The sticks themselves are also VERY loyal to Alan and would do anything to protect him.
The Brutes: These are what people call members of the Kingdom due to the rumors of their brutality.

oh my GODS this one started kicking my ass at the end . its OKAYYY i dont think its the best but whatever they cant all be winners am i right chat (sitcom laughing) . anyways here you go sparkle anon, hope you enjoy !! (ask game here)
~~~~~~~~~~
Dark had a curse.
Chosen knew this — the curse was to take Chosen's life. Chosen knew the risk of saving Dark, and then helping her. Chosen knew that, one day, the curse, the mission code, would act up, and Chosen would have to fight.
So, the two fought. Dark always apologized once she snapped out of it (typically after getting the shit knocked out of her), and Chosen always was there to help dress her wounds.
But… as the years went on, and as they retired, or settled down, or whatever you called it, Dark just got more and more antsy. Secretive.
Dark revealed his plan on a regular Wednesday afternoon. "We can take revenge, Chosen! We can finally make Him hurt, like He hurt you!"
"...No. You don't want this, Dark. I don't want this."
"But I did this for you! We can attack the Cursor that hurt you!" Dark gestured to the massive laser machine in front of her.
Chosen shook Chosen's head. "No. We're done with this, with hurting sticks, remember? We agreed."
"But He's not a stick!"
"No." Chosen's arms crossed, and Dark looked pissed. "I did this for you!" He repeated, and then he dove for the button. Chosen leaped to him, grabbing him and pulling him away from the button. The two fought, anger burning through Chosen.
How dare she, try and do this? Who does she think she is, trying to do this to them?
Dark wiggled out of Chosen's grasp, and hit the button. What looked like a nuke launched into the sky, breaking through the Outernet's sky and into an IP — One that Chosen knew too well. Before Chosen could think properly, Chosen blasted Dark through the wall in the house, and flew after the bomb.
Chosen had to spend a few days on Alan's PC. The… Virabots hurt Chosen — much more than Chosen thought they could have. Deep, long wounds were littered on Chosen's body, and something was preventing Chosen from healing as quickly as Chosen should.
Alan had some new sticks, apparently. Another hollowhead, named The Second Coming (of Chosen?), and a few regular sticks that looked like they came from Stick City, but more brighter. Noogai3 didn't tell them anything, because of course He wouldn't, but after just one look from Second, Noogai caved and told them everything.
Chosen has been spending most of Chosen's time in a weird, strangely blocky house on the PC. Noogia couldn't see Chosen from the inside, so it was better, even if He promised not to hurt Chosen and had apologized to Chosen.
But the thing was, Noogia shouldn't have to apologize, because He should have never done that to Chosen. The stick was bitter and spiteful towards the cursor. Chosen hated him. But there were also sticks here.
(Innocent sticks that nearly died because of Dark's revenge. Revenge Chosen never wanted.)
Chosen wasn't healing.
Yes, the bleeding stopped, but the wounds themselves would not heal. Blue, who was apparently the second oldest behind Second aerself, had put an IV into Chosen's arm as Chosen's presents turned the first level of this building into a makeshift infirmary. The kid explained that it's from a game, and it's supposed to help healing.
Chosen was grateful for these children helping Chosen. Tensions seemed tense — Chosen hopes it wasn't always like this, but who knows with Noogia.
The past few days, they talked to Chosen. A lot. It seems they've never been off the PC before, and were curious about Chosen's life. Chosen willingly told them the non criminal things, mostly what Chosen did in retirement.
Currently, Chosen was chatting to Blue, who was checking on Chosen's wounds, when a loud crash came from outside of the building. Chosen flinched — Chosen still wasn't used to all the noise the kids made — before screams rang through the room. Both Chosen and Blue froze.
Blue rushed out, telling Chosen to stay where Chosen was. Rolling Chosen's eyes, the IV gets ripped out of Chosen's arm (Ow.) before Chosen walks out of the building.
"Dark?!" Chosen shouted, seeing the bright red stick flying in the air with flames surrounding her fists. "What the fuck?"
Dark, upon seeing the stick figure, dropped to the ground, charging at Chosen. Chosen let out an "oomph", unable to defend against Dark's attacks. Dark never really hurt Chosen before — not physically, not leaving welts or cuts or bruises. But the Virabots left every cut and scratch and scar on Chosen's body.
The kids screamed in the background, trying to pull Dark off of Chosen, but it was no use. Dark was cursed.
Dark was cursed, and Chosen was tired. Chosen was just able to keep Chosen's arms up, shielding Chosen's face. After a moment of debate, Chosen grabbed Dark's face. It startled her, as her face was pulled down, and Chosen kissed her. "I'm sorry," Chosen muttered, and Dark stayed still, frozen. "I'm sorry that I could never help you."
"I… what?" Dark asked, blinking his eyes. They… they were normal again. Not full of ones or zeros that overtook his eyes when the mission code took over his body. "Why…" Dark's voice trailed off, a hand reaching to his lips.
With all the doom and gloom ava6 has offered us so far i now want to talk about the AUs id made for victim pre-ava6
So for starters i characterized him as a pottymouthed, angry, and very confused. Pottymouthed bc he is canonically the only stickman to cuss, angry because he was treated very poorly by the animator and subsequently Killed, confused bc hes only existed for less than 2 minutes and has yet to explore the world.
I also made him an artist, similar to Second, but he lacks the ability to make them come to life and sticks mainly to drawing machinery, weaponry and artillery, (as a reference to how many stickman animations often use guns, tanks and the sorts) the way young boys have a fascination for the things. He has extensive knowledge about how they work and Very autistic about it, that was his thing. He does not draw figure drawings like animals or people, that is Second's thing.
I also gave him a lot of self worth issues. It came from multiple reasons,,,being named 'victim' for starters, having his fate sealed to be nothing more than just a test subject, collateral, something to use and then dispose of. Second being that he had no special powers like the other's made like him do. Third being that,,,Second is just So Much Better than him in every way,, Second gets the love he never got from his creator, he never got the life the others were let to live, he never got to explore the world, none of that. He got None of that.
Also he has a lot of trauma pertaining his death but i think thats obvious.
With that in mind i present you the first AU. The premise is that victim finds a way to come back to life and ends back on Alan's desktop, the newer desktop, where the color gang and Second now live in. The way he appeared was never properly Made, hes just There now. He mightve crawled through the code and ended up here, he mightve come from somewhere deep in Alan's files, he mightve come from an external source, who knows but victim is Here now. The color gang gets curious and welcomes this strange new stickman with open arms, they show him around and quickly became friends, and everything was Fine. Until Alan comes online do to work and victim FREAKS at the sight of the cursor, he quickly tries to eradicate said cursor by creating weapons and bombs, and threatened to nuke the PC, whilst the color gang frantically try to stop him and talk him down.
Eventually they do and they reintroduce Alan to victim and vice versa. Victim is still discomforted and LIVID about the discovery that he'd gone back to his MURDERER'S desktop, but for the sake of his newfound friends he will back down. Victim and the color gang will then live in relative harmony, although victim is still Very cautious of Alan and yet to let go of the iron fisted grudge he has on him (who can blame him?) but they live, together.
In this AU is actually where most of my old doodles' interactions between victim and the color gang came from. They just vibe forever together,,, its a nicer beginning for victim. This is where the cowboy victim, rambo victim, and whatever else silly little costume and roles ive put him in take place, theyre just playing!! Just as they do in the actual shorts!!
The second AU takes place right before the ending of ava3, Dark and Chosen are doing their blackhole destruction of Noogai's PC and are running away from the crime scene. Then suddenly a foreign stickfigure comes running at them through the hole Chosen had made to escape, they all fall through the hole and speed through the cables. Only then they could properly assess their unfamilar company, it was a black stickfigure with the same hollow imperfect circle heads as themselves, they'd look practically identical to Chosen. After they get to the other end of the cables they were baffled by the stickfigure that had joined them in their escape.
So victim finds itself tagging along Chosen and Dark during their destruction spree, having no powers like they did it tended to sit back or cause minor destruction of its own. And eventually the three of them live under one roof, though not without problems. They had their problems and fights often break out, mainly between Chosen and Dark, and since theyre both superpowered assholes they cause more than necessary destruction to their home and surroundings. Victim, being Not Superpowered, often leaves before things get messy and he gets caught in the crossfire. He comes back home to their home thoroughly wrecked and is less than pleased (hes pissed) at the state of it, and makes them clean it up.
Before you ask i have No Idea what this'd mean for the events of ava5 but thats something we can always think about now or later!!
In the middle of writing this i realized i only had 2 major AUs for victim so i guess thats the end of it LOL
V-VICTIM?
Tumblr media
Yo man, my Victim is kinda broken, like do you see it's arm cut off? Welp it can't control it even if it tries to, because it lived only 2 minutes that it's body doesn't fully immersed in the reality of animations. If you have a question why they don’t have clothes, then I’ll tell ya, when noogai creates a stick figure, clothes don’t appear right away, you have to buy it or sew it, it’s logical. And their pronounce is it/they/them. No one can see them nor hear them.
They kinda funny dead being. Always see what he's creator doing and his stick figure's. Even thought they are still angry at Alan of the first meeting... They were programmed to "new" computer because TCO and TDL broke the old one that they were calling it prison/home. Having problems with speaking like in the picture.
That's all, I think so;)
Consider:
GLADIATOR AU
The RGBY group were literally created to fight, so, why not make them literally gladiators?
(they're all adults in the main story, tsc&tco&vic are brothers and only them)
Tsc is the son of a noble called Noogai (didn't feel like calling the father alan) and is called Secundus.
Despite Noogai trying to have TSC become a senator, TSC still longs for fights and arts. One time during a gladiator fight his eyes got caught on the RGBY. Idk where to go from here on.
I haven't got names for the RGBY group but they'll probably be called after their signature colour, let's just say people have colourful hair just because
Ruber, Viridis, Caeruleus, Flavus (pretend this is yellow) are despite different backgrounds friends and are gladiators duh
Now, there are different ways to end up as a gladiator is by being a slave forced to, criminal whose punishment it is or sometimes just someone who wants the fame and glory of a gladiator.
First thoughts:
Red is the son of a criminal and one himself too. Not because he wanted but because he was forced. (Herobrine is the father and it's more or less based on avm)
Green was someone who had nothing and decided to give it a try and became gladiator because of that.
Blue might have had severe debts, either because he tried to help people or because of his addiction or both. So, he had to become an gladiator.
Yellow. He was a slave and the son of a former wealthy citizen, therefore educated. Thanks to that he was to tutor for the children of a wealthy family. Later, due to trouble he kept causing because of his curious yet careless nature, he was just sent to a gladiator school.
Not sure if I want to stick with these ideas.
Anyway...
In ancient rome if the father did not accept the infant, they could be left to die.
So. In Victim's case this is what happened. Despite being left to die, he was found and adopted by a lower family. Everyone knew that Vic was the abandoned child of Noogai and so did Vic. Which made him resent Noogai and fuel his determination to become a wealthy merchant/citizen/senator idk.
Idk what his latin name will be. Maybe one he gave himself? Victor. You see what I did there right?
The chosen one however was the first accepted child. But TCO was a difficult and rebellious child, which was why he got mistreated by Noogai who tried to use violence and strict measures to discipline him but it never worked. At one point, to gain freedom, him and TDL run away together.
Maybe we can call him Electus?
The dark lord. I'm not sure what to do with him yet. Because technically he did serve under Alan, so, he might be a former noble turned slave and because he was educated, he was Noogai's assistent. However because of Noogai's cruelties, he understood why TCO was so hostile towards him and both of them bonded over that and ran way later.
They're both currently wanted.
I'm not sure where to put the mercenaries, purple and king orange yet. Maybe later.
can you explain to me the difference between your stick!alan and your stick!noogai aus? I feel a bit lost.
oh yeah totally!
basically, stick!noogai happens in AVA 1, before victim is deleted! the reason it's labeled as noogai is because it differentiates him from current-day c!alan (short for character alan btw). at this time he'd be around 13, if i didn't fuck up the math spectacularly.
The others would be made under completely different circumstances.
stick!alan, or at least my specific au of it, is set at AVA 5! dark uses a virus to drag alan into the computer. All the sticks have already been created and he has an established history with the others already!
technically they're BOTH stick!alan, which is why i've been tagging them as such, but they start at different points! i'm interested in these types of interpretations because the original interpretation of stick!alan had it in AVA 6, and i think it could be interesting to look at it from different angles :]
Nocturnal Bonds
Fandom : Animator vs Animation (AvA)
Word count: 1109 words
TW: Mention of blood and violence
Notes: this fanfic takes place before the showdown, I saw this idea somewhere a year ago and now I could finally write a fanfic about it, hope you like it :3
It was late at night for Chosen and Dark, these two stick figures were sleeping peacefully. Dark, with a gentle snore, lay sprawled on his back, one arm casually thrown across Chosen's face. Meanwhile, his leg, seemingly intertwined with Chosen's, created an unintentional yet oddly comforting connection.
Dark was sleeping peacefully, dreaming of violence and fighting as much as you can expect of someone called The Dark Lord.
However, unlike their usual success, Dark found himself trapped between two guards that easily doubled his size; he was weak and overpowered, and so his partner who was pinned to the wall with a knife in his throat and being threatened by an unknown teal stickfigure with a wicked smile on his face, he looked like the type of maniac who wouldn't hesitate to kill someone for their own gain and recognition...
The Dark Lord has never found himself in a situation like this, his eyes were wide and full of a mix of emotions ranging between confusion, anger, frustration... and a new feeling he hasn't felt in a long time since he was created:
Fear
But this time, it wasn't the fear of getting killed; it's the fear of getting his only best friend and partner in crime killed.
The one who always puts up with your temper
The one who doesn't hesitate to defend you
The one who forgave you even though you tried to kill him
And the one who is now sacrificing for you...
Dark's breathing quickens, his desperation increases so does his fury and anger, he tries to kick, punch, crawl and bite, anything possible just to save his friend from this horrible fate, but at seeing that he lacks the strength to free himself, he tries to use her only weapon left.. his sharp tongue.
"Don't you dare to touch him!" Dark snarls with full hatred, his glowing red eyes piercing through this navy stickfigure soul and flesh. Even in the face of death, Dark wouldn't beg but he's willing to even murder only for Chosen.
The teal stickfigure only scoffs as a small smile tugs at the corner of his lips, the knife dangerously moving tantalizing against Chosen's neck.
Chosen's face goes through several stages, from anger to sadness in a few seconds, as he accepts his only fate he gets to say slowly in a few words.
"I'm glad it's me and not you, I love you Dark" a small smile shows in his face before...
Blood
Lots of Blood.
And then a piercing bloody scream
"CHOSEN!" His name leaves Dark's lips as soon as he woke up from his vivid nightmare.
just... a nightmare, only that, right?
Dark had to make sure it was, he turned his head at his side of the bed only to find a startled Chosen sitting on the bed, looking at him concerned and surprised, he has never heard screamed his partner that way before..
"Dark? Are you okay?" Chosen whisper his question, his dark eyes looking at Dark through the night. "What happene-"
A tight hug cut his words, The Dark Lord, was hugging The Chosen One with such determination and desperation he hasn't seen since they escaped noogai computer.
"...Dark?" Chosen asks, not able to hide the hint of surprise for this sudden affection. Dark's breathing quickens in response, but he lets some words spill from his dry lips.
"I thought I lost you"
And without further words Dark let out a strangled sob, and threw himself around Chosen, unable to hold back the tears of relief. Chosen was fine, he was okay, but even most importantly, he was alive.
Chosen looks taken aback for Dark's tears, the red and villainous stickfigure doesn't often cry over silly things such as a nightmares...let alone about the thought of him being murdered
Chosen doesn't let his thoughts wander on why, the only thing he needs to know right now is how to comfort his usually unafraid and bold partner so Chosen awkwardly yet genuinely wraps his arms around Dark's shoulders, pressing slightly against his chest in an odd way of comfort. Years of conquering worlds don't prepare for something like this!.
The black hollowed head just sighs tiredly, yet remains at Dark's side wordless, afraid to say something that could make things worse, Dark just keeps sobbing until his tears drift into soft sniffles against Chosen's shoulder, without meeting his partner's calm yet concern gaze he says barely above a whisper.
"I thought I lost you.." Dark repeats again in a hollow and sorrowful voice.
"What? Like in your dream?" Chosen says as he looks at his companion with a hint of sympathy in his eyes. "What...what happened?" Chosen asks tentatively, begging inside it's the right time and question to make in this sensitive situation.
Dark takes a deep breath before looking at Chosen's eyes, vulnerability showing through yet also a bit of bashfulness at being seen so..weak even for himself, he says in what he prays is his usual steady and confident voice "I... dreamed we were in a fight, and a strange stickfigure somehow overpowered you while I was just.. trapped on the floor.." Dark's breath gets heavier, he fights against the tears and says with his head bowed "And I saw how you sacrificed for me" There, he said it, Dark just keeps up his strong facade as much as he can, enough tears already!
Chosen remains silent for a few long seconds, and then a small chuckle
"And you believed it?" Chosen can't help but say, in a mixture of amusement and sympathy evident in his tone "C'mon Dark, you know I'm better than that, but I guess even in your dreams you see me as weak" Chosen jokes lightly, Dark looks up, slightly surprised yet quickly recovers,he growls but he simply nudges Chosen's arm roughly "Hey! I can't control what I dream y'know?" Dark says slightly annoyed, yet also relieved when Chosen decides to not acknowledge his brief vulnerability.
"But y'know, maybe you got something right after all" Chosen continues, not flinching slightly at Dark's punch; he leans closer as he says "I would sacrifice my life for you" Chosen says bluntly and earnestly. Dark is at loss of words for a few seconds, and then he shakes his head and finally says
"You're such a dumbass if you think I'm letting anyone kill you that easily, you're mine to deal with " Dark retorts back sharply, yet also slightly touched by Chosen's words. Chosen lets out a small yet amused chuckle
"Whatever you say Dark, I'm the one protecting you, y'know that?" Chosen's words are as close as he can pass through as an "I care about you"
Dark responds with the same level of subtlety "Not as long as I breath, Chosen one" and with that, another vow was made for tonight.
...
Little did they know how easily those vows would turn to ashes in a matter of months...
I don't know if anybody else has pointed this out, but I just noticed something about AvA 6, more specifically about the trailer.
Last night I decided to rewatch the trailer, really just for the heck of it, but mostly to see the sneak-peek scenes again but now with context. Y'know, you got it starting off with drawing a black hollow-head, then clips to a scene about Chosen. Back again to the drawing, and then another two clips of Chosen. Drawing, Chosen, plus a few shots from The Showdown including the Color Gang and Dark. But then we get here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can't see the name Alan/Noogai is typing.
My sister - who got me into the fandom, bless her soul - was sitting right next to me and I pointed the same out to her, and she immediately looked up both AvA 1 and 2 to compare.
And sure enough
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First notable differences are that the sticks just downright don't look the same, but also, the pop-up window to name the symbol is directly above Chosen's head, but a bit off to the right above Victim, just like in the trailer.
So if there was still any confusion about who this guy is
Tumblr media
I think this'll clear that up.
The Chosen One, magic systems, and the writing flaw that somehow hasn't caused AvA any problems yet despite being a notorious immersion-breaker
Limitations breed creativity. Specifically, limitations in a magic system (or powers system, same narrative function) breed creative and innovative implementation of said magic.
Avatar: The Last Airbender is oft cited as one of the best and most readily-available examples of how limitations can benefit the possibilities and intrigue of a hard magic system. Each of the four represented elements (or four "powersets") has inherent limitations, which benders must devise ways to work around or compensate for.
I haven't seen Mob Psycho 100 brought up as often, in regard to how it portrays psychic powers as a magic system, so I might be going out on a limb, here. But I believe that mp100 is a good portrayal of how limitations can benefit the portrayal of a soft magic system.
Specifically, it shows how limitations don't have to come from within the system itself.
Psychic powers don't seem to have limitations in and of themselves, aside from potency, as we see across the series that one can use them to do pretty much anything; it's even stated that some psychics don't understand how their own powers work, only having some idea of What they Can Do with them.
What this means for the magic system, is that the capabilities of any particular psychic will often come down to what the psychic is smart enough to Figure Out how to do, or what the psychic is Personally Comfortable doing.
Thus, limitations are placed on the magic by the characters themselves, whether consciously or not (a conscious limitation would be a character choosing not to use their powers in a certain way; an unconscious limitation would be a character simply never having it cross their mind that they could use their powers in a certain way. In a well-written character, such unconscious limitations may be traced back to the character's worldview or biases, or a lack of knowledge or expertise on their part, or some other trait inherent to the character). Two examples of the limitations Mob himself faces are his self-discipline (refusing on a moral basis to use his powers in certain situations) and his physical condition (he's fully capable of psychically-enabled superspeed but refrains because it "makes [him] nauseous").
(It should be noted that A:TLA also imposes character-centric limitations on its magic, but I choose not to highlight them for the sake of the contrast between examples, so they won't be conflated with limitations originating from the system itself.)
Now that I've established a precedent for this post, let's talk about Chosen:
Chosen has an ever-growing laundry list of powers. Pyrokinetics and laser-eyes are brought up most often, but he also has cryokinesis, as well as some amount of influence over wind and electricity, if his ability to conjure storms is any indication. Plus there's the rippling golden shockwaves he uses to force the virus out of hiding on the computer, not to mention the vacuum-punch of coalescing wind and light that he's so far used only three times across the entire series (and all in relatively quick succession, to boot), and that's not even considering his ability to manifest portals at will (which seems to be an active development, considering he had to blast the first one into existence kamehameha-style rather than simply lighting it up), and then there's the typical superstrength that most of noogai's handdrawns seem to possess, plus extremely strong resistance against Dark's vira-tech...the list goes on. Some people [read: me] even consider his mouth a power, albeit jokingly. (Not his ability to eat things that aren't food, as non-powered sticks have done so as well; specifically his mouth. Though, since eating non-food items doesn't seem to affect him in any way, maybe it still counts. I wonder, if Chosen were to eat all the League champion data, would he gain their collective abilities as Purple did? Or would the data simply be gone, unless he decides to regurgitate it as projectiles?)
Wow, that's quite the ranged powerset! So, what limitations does he have to keep it interesting?
Well, he can't fly without his pyrokinesis. (Except for when he can. Granted, this is rare, and seems to only happen when he's using his storm-powers.)
He's not invulnerable against the glitch-attacks shot at him by the Rocket mercenaries. (Until he is. Do we actually know when he stopped glitching?)
The electro-dart he was hit with had him down for the count. (Until it didn't. We never actually see him pull it free from his arm, do we?)
Huh, that's...not many limitations being dictated by the powerset itself. What about character limitations?
Um...he has abysmal aim? (I've seen my friend @k1ttyadventurer mention this, but I have yet to find specific examples.)
He gets overwhelmed when fighting multiple opponents at once? (Considering the potency and diversity of his powers, this mostly sticks out as an odd weakness for someone like him to have. Especially after seeing how some other sticks fare against multiple opponents.)
He doesn't watch his back, leaving him vulnerable to sneak attacks? (This is the one weakness that I've been able to find him consistently demonstrating myself, and I can point to multiple fights where it has cost him.)
He tries to refrain from harming other stickfigures? At least, to a point? (This is partially conjecture on my part, but I invite you to consider why "being overwhelmed when fighting multiple opponents" would even be on this tentative list otherwise. Some of my friends have also headcanoned that Chosen tries to scale his strength and fighting prowess to match that of his opponents, but I haven't tried to find evidence for this idea in canon.)
Poor communication? (We haven't seen what influence this may have on his power use, if any.)
...well.
That's...not much to go by.
It's hard to really define any limitations that The Chosen One might be working within.
In fact, the easiest limitations to identify are the ones he has forced upon him by others, rather than any that can be sourced from the magic system or from his own character.
The ball and chain, which disable all but the weakest of his pyrokinesis and also hinder his range of motion.
The Box, which dilutes his potency to ten percent and even turns his own powers against him, all while trapping him in a confined space.
I don't think many would disagree with the assessment that The Box is the first time that we really see Chosen try to work around or compensate for the limits of his powers. But I think it only fair to keep in mind that these are unique, situational limitations, brought on by factors completely out of his control, namely the environment he has found himself in; if he were to leave the simulated art program, or if an ally of his were to gain control of its toolbar, these limitations would no longer be a factor.
And so, I put these questions to all of you:
what limitations do Chosen's powers have?
are they in any way influenced by character limitations he may possess?
how on ethernet has Alan managed to avoid the "Why Don't They Just" plothole for so long when he's created a character with seemingly limitless abilities?
if you don't, in fact, think that Alan has avoided this plothole and you have found yourself asking Why Doesn't Chosen Just, what answers have you tried to fill in the gap with? (Can be Doylist or Watsonian, but please specify to avoid confusion.)
if the magic is undefined enough to be feasibly capable of anything, how has Alan avoided the Harry Potter Film trap of all Chosen's fights turning into vague light-shows in which all attacks look the same and the system holds no actual sway over the outcome of the combat?
what does all this mean for Second, whose only limitations so far seem to be the need of a tool for his powers to be channeled through (the pencil, Dark's console, debatably the art program, debatably Alan's pc), a simple Lack Of Awareness/Connection, and his own creativity?
I'll also link this essay, which spurred me to gather my thoughts on this topic as it's something I've thought about on and off for a while now.
Have at it, folks o7
Note
so Dark, how do you feel about being the middle sibling
Tumblr media
Dark: I sure HOPE I'm not related to Chosen
= _ = _ =
Sammy here!
Full transparency, I'm a ChoDark shipper and I also don't view the Color Squad (RYGB) as sibling either
But even then, I've never thought that any of the Noogai sticks (Victim, Chosen, Dark, or Second/Orange) as being related to each other
In my mind and in my headcanons, just because someone creates multiple stick figures and they come to life, does NOT automatically make the creator and their stick figures family. The stick figures themselves aren't automatically related either
Same creator sticks CAN have familial or even romantic connections built in with each other if that's what the Creator intended for them. Think a pair of twins or a married couple.
But to automatically assume same creator = family, would be wrong
That being said, if the Noogai Sticks being family is YOUR headcanon
That's great! More power to you! I'm not about to police your interpretations of the stick figures
But at least for me, it ain't my headcanon
Dialogue under the Read More!
Dark: What are you talking about? I don't have any siblings?
Dark: And if you're talking about Noogai. He's my creator but he sure ain't my "dad"
Dark: And if you're referring to Chosen and Second, I'm not related to them either.
Dark: We're Stick Figures. Being created by the same person does NOT automatically mean we're related or family.
Hello! I know I don’t come here much but I have a silly little AU that I want to show the world!
Most of it has been developed in a silly private Discord server via roleplays, but recently I finally did some actual writing for it! They’re random, out-of-order snippets based on emote reactions, but they’re something, right?
AU summary maybe-
The Mountaineer/Mountain/Mt AU diverges from canon after Showdown. After being lasered into the ground, Dark loses all his memories and ends up on Noogai's PC a month later. He’s the funny guy with a nurse hat, if anyone came across someone else’s art of him.
The main thing about this AU is that a Dark Lord from another universe (K!Dark) is preparing to invade them, for which they had to find The Chosen One, flee Alan's PC and take refuge in the "Land Beyond the Internet", which is just a neverending range of mountains away from the city.
This is where they find Chosen, who tells them about Orange's powers. It was clear that they were the only way they were going to survive the invasion, and the sticks made a "Plan of Action" to unlock them once and for all.
Leaving Dark to protect the base, they went deeper and deeper into the mountains and set up camp, where Orange's "training" under Chosen would begin.
Now this part is controversial so I’ll be super vague, but the training is kind of really ouch and pulls no punches. It involves no sleep, lots of pain, lots of fighting, isolation, immunisation against Virabot venom, and more, until Orange’s powers finally unlock. The training doesn’t stop there, though, because he has to learn how to control and use his powers without obliterating everything around him.
Fortunately, an Orange from another universe puts an end to this madness, and then other things influenced by other universes happen. They’re still preparing for the invasion, but they’re not as desperate and alone, now, so they can heal from their horrific past.
Now for some silly art-
