Nonagon's journal, Aeor. I hadn't painted a still life in a few and this was a perfect reason to address that. While I still need to do way more light studies, after nearly two weeks of absolute frustration in anything I tried to paint, these last two pieces fell into place fairly quickly.

poor Cree.
so i read the Nine Eyes of Lucien back in November and lately I’ve been stopping in on pieces of CR2 because I’m so excited for the show.
while jumping about I loaded up episode 14 to watch the introduction of the Gentleman, and in doing so I was confronted with Cree and Molly’s reunion, and it hits real different after reading the book and knowing Lucien's full story. Spoilers for The Nine Eyes below.
so by the time Lucien was killed by Vess he’d already become a raging zealot to his cause and no longer gave a damn about the rest of the Tomb Takers and it was starting to show, just barely, but it was there. So when Molly had to make up a story and said he was trying to protect the others and that he needed Cree to keep a low profile as to protect the, she must have felt so relived, because she always had the most faith in Lucien so seeing he was putting others first again must have been a huge relief. It’s so sad to see knowing how much Cree cared for Lucien, and it hurts so bad because Molly cared for her, not in a major way, but Molly had innate kindness and cared for all people so to Cree being given positivity from who she saw as Lucien, just for it to be ripped away when she realized it wasn’t him. If only she got to know Molly. He really was the best bits of Lucien, and she deserved him, not “The Nonagon”. Lucien was long gone ages before Molly came around, and truly the cleaning of the slate that was Mollymauk more Lucien than the Nonagon ever was and it sucks so bad the Cree didn’t get the chance to have Lucien back.

Backstory/Background:
Zachary was born to a small family. He only grew up with a man he had known as his ‘father’. This man would teach Zachary as possible to dislike the world and those within it. As well as these beings known as ‘humans’. His ‘father’ would teach Zachary also to be a killer, before anything else. While being raised by his ‘father’ the man would tell Zachary that he was hated and that others wanted him dead. So this is what Zachary had grown up to believe of the people around him. Only his ‘father’ was safe.
In his world, known as Wonderland, there are many creatures that he learns to fight from his father. When he gets older he is sought out by the kingdom to become a knight. Which Zachary’s father permits him to do. Actually, not only does he, but he seemed to have planned for this day Zachary’s entire life. He learns that there is another world outside of his own where the humans all reside. That the creatures from their world are all thought to not be real or mythological in most cases. The humans are unaware of Wonderland’s being a real live world, just like their own. Though rumor has been around for years that some manage to go over to the human’s world, every so often, through special mirrors.
Zachary is from the Kingdom of Diamonds. So as he grows up he is trained to become a Knight of Diamonds. One day while he is a teenager he is told that he will be one of four, each chosen from the different kingdoms, to go over to the other world. The world of humans. This infuriates Zachary for the most part. Especially as he is told that he is to guard one of the humans, the one who will summon him. From any kind of dangers that might happen to them. For a while after this Zachary remains in his knight training in the kingdom. But it does not take long before the four are summoned to the other world, just as it had been told would happen to them. Zachary arrives and is difficult, and unkind to the one who summoned him.
However, he remains true to his duties, and guards his ward. This results in him having to also attend the very same school his ward is attending. While there, he learns that there is indeed something very suspicious happening in the human world. Then he is told by the one who summoned him that their entire life they had dreamed of him. Which he actually sounds very strange to Zachary, and makes him even more curious as to all the events happening at one time, now. With his new curiosity he has become determined to figure out exactly what is going on. Though his duty to protect the one that summons him often gets in his way. As the creatures and other’s from his world or another, even, seem to be breaking free into the human dimension more and more often, attacking more frequently as they do.
From most of the stories getting passed around it seems to be those that are stereo typically known to be evil and dark, causing the majority of the issues and attacking humans the most. Which is making sharing the world a lot harder. Zachary learns that these attacks have been starting to be documented all the way back in 1550, when their now big city had once been nothing more but a kingdom beside the sea, with a forest to one side, and mountain range behind and above it. Though nothing seems to be making sense for the newer arrivals. Who come to have to live among the humans as if they were just like them, too.
Eventually Zachary graduates from the human school, alongside the one who summoned him. He carries on a normal life, alongside the summoner. Helping them wherever they should need it. Mostly in the defeat of the creatures who try to kill the humans. Zachary starts to suspect that these creatures are being run in more than likely a cult-like fashion, in an attempt to take the human world back from the humans. Though the mystery is still a very difficult one. He finds that most times he would rather just ignore the frustration caused by all of this mess, and continue to pretend he is human. As he has become comfortable with the easier, more advanced lifestyle of the human world.
Because he has become less difficult and less hateful toward humans. As well as no longer really fearing anything might be killing him. Zachary takes up a job at a school made to help the creatures that have been hidden so long, acclimate to the human world as regular citizens. Though many humans do not enjoy these creatures and other species. Zachary manages to find himself a teaching job at this school and helps the creatures and species with their transition into human society. So that their kinds can be more accepted and not attacked. However, this does not last for very long as one night while he had been going to his own private dorm, he was attacked, leaving him with a brutal head wound.
After this attack Zachary is left with memory issues and has mostly forgotten about his life before being hit. When he recovered from his injuries he was allowed to return to school. But because he had been so secretive prior to being attacked, no one was able to help him remember most of who he was, and what he was there to do. This causes him to lose contact with his summoner, and so ultimately to most of those who rely on him or knew him before working at the private school, to not know where he is as Zachary didn’t tell them about his work, thinking it would be safer in the long run. He continues to work at the school, as a teacher, still.

Reasons why I think that we should change how many months there are in a year. This was brought to you by someone who cannot sleep and has no hobbies to distract themself with.
Okay so 365 divided by 12 is 30.416666666 (I did this in my calculator app). So we end up with a leap year every now and again. So 365 days and every 4 years a leap year, very nice okay. However, going off the months of the year: January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December. You see something in September, October, November and December? If you don't it's SEPT, OCT, NOV, and DEC - These mean (what I assume to be) seven, eight, nine, and ten going off the shapes septagon, octogom, nonagon and decagon. I bet you can't guess how many sides those shapes have. But September, October, November, and December aren't the 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th month?
THAT'S BECAUSE OF JULY AND AUGUST! NAMED AFTER ROMAN EMPERORS!!!!!!!
NOW I HAVEN'T DONE *ANY* RESEARCH (other than reading books like four years ago) BECAUSE IT'S 1:13AM AND I DO NOT WANT TO FOR THE SAKE OF MY SANITY, I ASSUME THEY WANTED SOMETHING NAMED AFTER THEM AND SO JULY AND AUGUST!! (July probably being Julius Caesar and whoever was August I don't care enough to remember)
So, 10 months? Removing July and August? Okay let's see, 365 divided by 10 is 36.5. So if it were to be even every month is to have 36 days and a leap year every other year. Okay that could be cool what else? 365 divided by 5 is 73, but a month with 73 days might be a bit too long. 365 divided by 4 is 91.25 WHICH COULD BE A bit long now *B U T* since there are 4 seasons we can have 4 months?? OKAY that might be a bit long what about 8 months? That'd be 45.625, I don't know if one is to think that is long but let's see 16. That'd be 22.8125. I think that's quite nice. But what about 20 months? That's divisible by four so we can have 5 months per season. We'd have 18.25 months so we can have 18 days per month and a leap year every 4 years.
What if we wanted every month on a Monday and end on a Sunday? That'd be convenient. Okay so 4 weeks per month, 28 days, 13.035714285 months. We can have 13 months and an occasional leap year to throw off our week, not so nice.
Unless we changed how long our week is? HMMMM let's have a see I need to do more maths now I'm not prepared for this help. This was *not* the plan.
How many weeks per month sounds nice? I'd say 3-5 maybe 6 if that works. Now, at least two days off because yes. Now I'm going off 10 months 36.5 days in them and I'm not going deeper into leap years and I don't care if I didn't need to say that.
If we were to have 3 weeks each week would be 12.166666666 days long. The decimal in not my problem and can be a leap year eventually, I don't care. So 12 days, we can't have 10 days working and 2 days off that's ridiculous! So for 3 week and each week being 12 days long we'd have to have like 7 days working and 5 days off. (I'm assuming capitalism wants us to work longer than off. Wait I can just have them even. Silly me)
So a week would be:
Work, Work, Work, Off, Work, Off, Work, Work, Work, Off, Off, Off. (who wants to work 6 days in a row? However, you'd get 6 days off in a row to either accept my proposal or have 6 days off in a row 6 days working with to be fair is only 1 day more than usual.)
Now onto a 4 week month. 9.125, the decimal is not my problem. So, a 9 day week. How'd that go? We'd still have 5 days of work but now with 4 days off instead (I'm not working with ratios of our current week I'm not bothered.) That'd be fine, a 4 day weekend. Less work, more fun.
Now a 5 week month. 7.3 days. pretty much how it is now. No changes.
Now a 6 week month would have 6.0833333333 days. 3 days off, 3 days working.
Now I feel like there'll be some major plothole. I'm dividing these by 36.5.
But wait. My main issue was that all the months' days are uneven. 365 divided by 12 is 30.416666666. So what if every month just had 30 days oml I'm stupid. BUT THAT WASN'T MY POINT I DON'T LIKE JULY AND AUGUST I NEED TO GET RID OF THEM!!
Okay that's simple I can just have 10 months 36.5 days per month, figure out everything some other time and leap years. Okay so the 0.5 is bothering me. Since it's 10 months and 36.5 days per month and that's 5 extra days half the months can just have 5 extra days. So January, February, October, November, and December will have 37 days and the rest have 36 days. Now I'm done, it's 1:54am and I'll continue this another time. 25/3/25
Expect me to continue this at some point, not in the near future.

(I just rediscovered this little hypothetical dialog snippet in my drafts, and while it was written back in November I think it still kind of works, so, out into the wild it goes)
"And what then?"
Lucien paused, blinked, tilting his head slightly at Caleb's question.
"I'm sorry?"
"What will you do once you have that power?" Caleb stared directly at Lucien, not breaking eye contact.
"Why, what I was meant to do, of course, in my role as the Nonagon." Lucien met Caleb's gaze head on, smirking, tail lashing silently in the background.
"Will you be happy?"
Lucien outright snorted. "I'm fulfilling my life's purpose and ambition, of course I would be happy with that. It seems you are asking questions that aren't even relevant, or something that would matter." He gestured to the room around them. "My purpose here is much greater than what I have been held to before. I would be a fool to refuse it."
A non-committal noise. "I see." Caleb said. "Think I have found out what I need. Thank you." He stood, gave Lucien a polite nod, and walked back over to the group called the Mighty Nein.
Lucien watched the man as he went, still not sure what to make of him and his strange adventuring party. Odd. It was all very odd. No matter, he knew that he still firmly in control, and everything was going to plan.
(So why did it feel like he had lost that conversation?)

⎧ᴿᴵᴾ⎫ classic review ⎧ᴿᴵᴾ⎫
One of my good friends recently started writing album reviews for their school newspaper, and for this, they came up with a rather ingenious gimmick: to review one ‘classic’ album per month, with a release date corresponding to that month. I like this idea, and have quite a long list of ‘classic’ albums myself, so in the interest of evaluating them and possibly turning people onto some of my lesser known favorites, I’ve decided to write my own. This time, I’ll be recommending Paper Mâché Dream Balloon, by King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, released November 2015.
This album has been a great comfort to me since first hearing it. I only just started listening to King Gizzard in late 2017, my first love being their energetic and beautiful Nonagon Infinity. It was after hearing the contrast between that and the soothing, acoustic tone of Paper Mâché Dream Balloon that King Gizzard became cemented as one of my favorite bands. Their versatility and breadth proved that they were a band I could revisit through an array of different moods and circumstances. In the case of this particular album, I discovered that although the overall tone of Paper Mâché Dream Balloon is unarguably relaxed and melodic, there is an underlying dissonance; one which tickles my fancy as someone who typically prefers more morose and less straightforward musical endeavors.
This dissonance is first achieved by making their music incredibly noisy. King Gizzard is a rather large band, and they make use of every member to constantly underlie their catchy acoustic melodies with dense harmonies and some even harsher chords that will be invisible to everyone except those who have listened through their songs at least a few times. Fortunately, that also makes it very rewarding to revisit, since I feel like I hear a new flute, double bass, or bongo part every time I listen. After those initial listens, I’m sure that casual listeners will also be surprised by their grim lyrical content. My first few times listening I honestly remember thinking “Are they saying cold cadaver? That can’t be right.” But it is true that, despite being blanketed by soothing melodies, the lyrics explore some pretty heavy subjects.
These lyrics fortunately serve as more than just an edgy gimmick; there is real depth to be found in them. Every song is conceptual in nature, and vague enough to be remembered in a range of circumstances. Now, I don’t want to go through and explain every track (though all of them are worthy of mentioning), but I will talk about just a few that I feel like people overlook.
Though far from the darkest song on the album, the first track, Sense, has a verse criticizing those who dodge taxes while still taking advantage of the utilities they service. These vocals are sang with exasperation as the speaker realizes how obvious, yet often overlooked, these types of contradictions are. And the totality of the song serves as an exasperated recognition that these types of contradictions and hypocritical sentiments go unchecked every day. As I encounter these in my day to day life, I often find myself thinking back to the chorus “it don’t make no sense at all” Which, comically, is a double negative, a clever little contradiction in itself. Truly, no sense at all.
I’d also like to mention track 11, Most Of What I Like, which has one of my favorite opening lyrics in musical history: “most of what i like ~ is given to me by ~ the one that i love ~ bears the onus every time” Complimented by a beautiful piano backing and dense string harmonies, these lyrics are spoken with such passion and tenderness that I’ve never been able to listen to them without feeling a pull on my heartstrings. And it immediately calls upon a certain empathy for all who feel love, since with all the blessings that love brings it also carries a burden of responsibility. Amusingly, the rest of the song carries a suggestion of necrophilia, but the lyrics are vague and clever enough that they can easily be read in a purely metaphorical sense. Lastly, I want to mention N.G.R.I. (Bloodstain), which upon my third or fourth listen I realized features a really... ‘unique’ piano part. It’s just someone playing sixteenth notes, the same note, over and over, really high and shrill, and loud in the mix too. This piano is almost unrelenting, giving us only a few short breaths during a glissando and harmonica feature before chiming back in. This is the type of thing where once you notice it, you can’t unhear it, and initially I was upset because it seemed much too grating for an album full of otherwise smooth tunes. However, I later grew to appreciate its placement, since this song’s theme of endless suffering and murderous intent is synergized with the piano to evoke ‘maximum empathy’!! Or, at least as much as I’ve ever experienced while listening to a song about a killer.
and that’s all I’ve got to say! go listen! You might have noticed that this review is two months late. Good thing I was only writing this for fun. Hope you have a great week ღゝ◡╹)ノ♡

Before their latest album « Murder of The Universe » is released King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard were playing on stage at the This Is Not A Love Song Festival in Nîmes. A perfect occasion to meet Stu Mackenzie singer of the band, in order to talk about the history of this extraordinary band straight out of Melbourne.
This group of seven Australians including two drummers and a harmonica (answer to this John Dwyer) sows chaos to each of its representations. Their tours are systematically sold out and the slightest new thing from the band on the internet such as a new video or any image from instagram arouses general hysteria. Announced as the closing act of This Is Not A Love Song Festival the members weren’t all there for the following interview but we got the “thinking head” for 15 minutes.
I heard you often go doing impro in Daptone Records’ studios in New York.
We recorded a few times there and I’m In Your Mind Fuzz and Nonagon Infinity were conceived there. It’s an amazing place I’d like to go back more often but as we’re always touring we don’t really have time to stop in New-York. We don’t play a lot there so it limits the possibilities.
But now you have your own studio in Melbourne
Yes but it’s not exclusive. Sometimes it’s hard to plan to record an album ahead not knowing what’s gonna happen in the meantime nor where we will be. The fact to have our own studio allows us not to be dependent from others. It’s rather messy and empty like a box of sardines smelling like sweat but we can do everything there. It’s small but it does the job, it’s cool. Our love home-studio.
You have the reputation to compose and record your songs in one day and one take.
It was like this for “Flying Microtonal Banana” but for this album it was even worse than that giving we recorded 21 songs in 3 days. Most of the songs are actually quite basic whether it’s the lyrics, the composition or the guitar riffs. We’re used to improvise, to focus of specific chords suits and to find variations which are linked and get fucked-up. This is how we compose and record and you can hear it clearly on some of our albums. And yeah generally it works in one take. We’re the dream band of every sound engineer.
Rightly a lot of your songs overlap into one another and are very similar. Where does this whim of making albums of several songs which actually only form one come from?
I’ve always liked recordings and albums which give you the feeling of being deep in a story with a logic continuity rather than an sequence of different songs. To me it seems like the right way of making albums.
By the way, a lot of your fans are talking about “gizzverse” on the internet a term that represents the universe and the links existing between your songs, lyrics, covers, videos… Is it intentional or are your fans the craziest on the planet?
No there are definitely a lot of links which refer to previous albums. The album isn’t released yet (at the moment of the interview) and it’s kinda funny to see all these theories on the web. When the album will be out things are gonna get clearer. I think that in everything that has been thought about Gizzverse (especially on Reddit) there are a lot of ideas we wouldn’t have never thought of. It’s kinda funny seeing this frenzy.
The guy who does the covers of the band is the same one since the beginning.
Yes Jason Galea and he also does the visuals for our gigs. He follows us everywhere when he has the time. He’s like the eighth member of the band. He works next to our recording studio in Melbourne and hears everything we do so he knows exactly what to propose to us to stick to the universes of the albums. He’s super involved in visual creation and there is a great alchemy between visual and sound. By the way on the road between Primavera Nos in Portugal and Nîmes we stopped on hills in Spain to shot a new video not far from the Pyrénées.
I heard you’re pretty interested in working in the cinema too. King Gizzard’s music could make an entire movie in a horrific style like Frankenstein.
I would love to be involved in such a project. If anyone reads these lines and would like to work with me I’m in! I think the band is already in an optic where visual takes a bigger place with our videos ; which is becoming more and more necessary for bands in general.
Your last album “Murder of The Universe” tells a story with a spoken word background. We’re not far from the cinema but in an auditory trip.
It’s true we had already done something similar with our album “Eyes Like The Sky”. This albums is cut in three chapters. The first one The Tale of The Altered Beast explores the themes of temptation and tells the story of a human being who meets a hybrid and mystical creature half-human half-beast. The second one The Lord of Lightning vs. Balrog is focused on a big battle between two entities nicknamed Lord of Lightning and Balrog who represent light’s strength against darkness. The third one Han-Tyumi & The Murder of The Universe deals with a cyborg starting to becoming conscious of its nature and becomes obsessed with throwing-ups and deads. He decides to create a creature named Soy-Protein Munt Machine which only purpose is to vomit. This machine explodes and infinitely expulses throwing-ups which encompass the whole universe and destroy it. Whence the name of the album.
The person who tells the story of the album is an Australian singer signed on your record label Flightless.
Yeah Leah Senior is amazing. We recorded her second album. By listening to it I became obsessed by her voice and we decided she’d be perfect to tell the story of Murder of The Universe. She came in total impro and she killed it.
For most people when we talk about garage and psychedelic rock we usually think about California. But with your band but also The Babe Rainbom, The Murlocs, ORB, POND…. Is Australia the new psych rock nirvana?
From my humble experience, Australia has a long story with rock & roll. But I don’t think things have particularly changed these past years. There always have been brilliants bands. But I think we can still thank Tame Impala for bringing the spotlights on our country recently.
You planned on releasing five album this years. At about half of it you released two. Isn’t your bet a bit bold as you’re always on the road?
We’re gonna try! We have a few ideas we might release but the first one is already happening.
You arrived at quite a heavy moment, hard to surpass in terms of violence. How’s the suite gonna sound?
It’s the angriest album we’ve ever done. For what is about to be released at the end of the year it’s gonna be calmer. The next one will be rather mellow jazz. We worked on it with Alexander Brettin from Mild High Club, a great Los Angeles band. They came to play our Gizzfest in Australia last November. He stayed a few weeks at home and we went to the studio every day. He had dome ideas of pieces and a lot of weed. After many trips back and forth between Melbourne and Los Angeles it was finished. It will be called “Sketches of Brunswick East” It’s a bit of a meeting between our two bands it’s fun. It’s a bit unexpected as a result, it’s a weird experimental jazz, very melodic. It will happen quickly. Jason is already working on the cover.
Don’t you ever stop? Worse than Ty Segall
I think in life you can’t do nothing indefinitely. I have to continually do something because I go crazy otherwise. Uselessness kills.
We could say that with King Gizzard’s music and particularly with Murder of the Universe you are apocalypse soldiers. What do you think?
I think the world we live in is going down. I don’t know if human condition is made to last there are so many things that can happen. I think in general people are afraid to openly talk about dangers we can meet because it is scary to think about the worst. When you think about future generations, having children, environment, artificial intelligence… it’s not necessarily cheerful but it’s important to think about it and not pretend everything is alright. Sometimes I think it’s interesting to make the music I make with King Gizzard a bit fanciful and SF but we’re not that far from reality in a way. It’s kinda the challenge of Murder of The Universe to open the discussion. I don’t care about talking about death, it’s part of life.

*& Notes on “lundenary”
There is no priority number for eleven. “Lundenary” is an invention of PinkWrite to fill this gap, built on the word “lunar” from “moon”, based on the idea of “the solo in orbit”. On research, the word appeared in all lowercase as a misspelling of “Londonderry” in an 1833 letter to Ireland, purportedly concerning one’s own whereabouts, a schoolmaster. In circumstance, the word is all too fitting, misspelled from a missing schoolmaster filling a gap for a word that never existed because it was never used. The “u” is long.
Reference: What comes after primary, secondary, tertiary?
The sequence continues with quaternary, quinary, senary, septenary, octonary, nonary, and denary, although most of these terms are rarely used. There’s no word relating to the number eleven but there is one that relates to the number twelve: duodenary.
Days, Months, Numbers, Shapes, Measures was originally published on PinkWrite
