After a month….I can finally post this~! Here’s another Rain Code Fic Fanart! This one was inspired by @pixelatedraindrops aka Space_Nurse on ao3 Home is Where The Heart Is (HIWTHI)

Home is Where The Heart Is is one of the earliest fics I read when I first got into the RC fandom. My personal favorite parts of HIWTHI is that it expands more on Halara, Desuhiko, Fubuki, and Vivia’s character, Yuma feeling super under the weather, and the ending ;W;. I also absolutely love sic fics as well, so that's a huge plusl~! It’s so sweet, you have no idea how much this fic warms my heart :3.

So… I drew the fic from start to finish! (Fun fact: Pixel drew a 4 page blueprint for me to reference and it became 14 pages) . This one is special cause its a slient comic ;3. I wonder what everyone says~(?)

The comic version of HIWTHI is fully colored and has 14 pages. This is the biggest project I’ve ever done to date yet! And I absolutely love it~ I don’t say this a lot but I’m really proud of this one! Especially the backgrounds, which I could for the life of me could not draw before XD. Drawing the background over and over really does help you improve.

The comic version of HIWTHI is also a birthday gift for Pixel. I’m grateful towards Pixel for being such a wonderful friend/ mentor. And always listens and helps me get through tough times. Thank you so much! ;W; truly~!

How do you think the friendships and relationships between the NDA detectives + kurumi would have progressed if the case had gone on longer than it did in canon? Do you think they would have gotten to the point where they started treating each-other more like family members/siblings?

It's safe to say that the longer the NDA detectives spend together, the tighter their bonds are. The survivors of the massacres went through hell and are now stuck in a place that wants them doubly dead. Since they're outsiders--them against the city--they have to stick together. They're found family through and through, and that doesn't have to mean they only treat each other as siblings or other typical family roles! Found family is far broader than that, as it's overall about a supportive system of characters that understand each other through shared experiences. If ya want to think of them with sibling dynamics, that's chill! I just like to advise that it's not the only way to explore their bonds. Go crazy!

This actually reminded me of one of my old pre-release theories about the overarching story of Rain Code, which ended up sounding kinda similar to Danganronpa 2 in terms of the characters' relations and histories. Here's what I wrote about it:

Basically, I theorized that all the detectives being sent to Kanai Ward were outcasts in the WDO, mainly by the basis that some of their Fortes would involve illegal actions or they are simply unwanted by their status (Desuhiko with identity theft, Melami with grave-robbing, Vivia possibly killing someone based on the teardrop tattoo, Zange who could've been ex-military, Aphex being a street rat who resorts to violence, Halara potentially scamming people outta their money, etc.). And so, due to them being undesirable in the WDO, they were sent out to solve Kanai Ward's problems because they were considered canon fodder and no one would really care if they died during their time there. However, Yakou took them in knowing their divisive statuses. As someone who was also considered to be a 'bottom of the barrel' WDO detective since he had no Forte, Yakou quickly warmed up to them and refused to treat them as low-lives due to circumstances outside of their control.

Kiiiinda wish this was a part of canon, but it's real in my heart. Bless the existence of AUs.

Nocturnal Detective Agency Age Headcanon

Yakou Furio: Oldest and the father figure and Chief of the Nocturnal Detective Agency. Middle-aged, but that is a pretty ambiguous age-range actually. The prequel novel focused on Yakou did say it took place more than a decade before the game, so his age could be his 30s.

Vivia Twilight: The second oldest and technically the oldest of the five younger detectives. I just think it would be funny that the most unmotivated and laziest is the oldest of the five younger detectives. He is in mid 20s.

Halara Nightmare: The third oldest and actual responsible one (as a detective). They are in their early-mid 20s.

Fubuki Clockford: The fourth oldest of the detectives and one of the younger detective group alongside Yuma and Desuhiko. She is a year older than Desuhiko, and two years older than Yuma. The ambiguity of her age would be 19 to her early 20s.

Desuhiko Thunderbolt: One of the younger members of the detectives. He seems close to Yuma’s age, yet also just a little bit older, so I imagine him to be like a year older than Yuma. So his estimated hc age would be 18-19.

Yuma Kokohead: The youngest of the Agency, and also the leader of the World Detective Organization as Number One. I actually like to believe that Yuma actually recently became Number One a few years prior to Rain Code, and has been training for the role since he was young. It wouldn’t be farfetched from Kodaka since in Danganronpa, some of the Ultimate Students were working already despite still being in high school, and Kyoko join a top neutral detective organization at the age of 13 years old. In-game, he would probably be 17-18 (like if he were in his last year of high school age).

Rain Code X Pokémon

Quick edit I did of the whole Nocturnal Detective Agency with their Pokémon partners. In this AU every person can only have one main teammate rather than a whole team of 6. Idk I feel it's far more fitting and appropriate for this type of scenario. Makes things less complicated too.

Honestly rather than using them for typical stuff like battle, I think it’d be cool to have detectives have Pokemon to aid them with their cases. Naturally, there’s a couple of psychic types, but I just think the idea of detectives working with a Pokemon companion is just cool. And their partners can have special skills or abilities to aid them like their Fortes.

Everyone in this world only has one partner. Includes the antagonists. No exceptions.

Master Detective Archives Epilogue Spoilers

What I really like in detail when we see Yuma in the epilogue is that he is still wearing the rain uniform, even though he doesn’t need it at the moment or anymore even. I feel like it means Yuma is holding onto the reminder of his relationships with the Nocturnal Detective Agency, especially Yakou Furio who gave him the outfit from the first place. It’s even more special when you remember Number One is said to be a loner and may not have had close, personal relationships beforehand. But having developed friendships and a family kinship with the Nocturnal Detective Agency, and no doubt still having the memories of their moments together, it made Yuma really value their relationships and hold onto their time together in Kanai Ward in memory.
