Genealogy Chart of the La Fayette and the Noailles family

The La Fayette’s were not the largest family, but this little overview might nonetheless come in handy. The Noailles’ on the other hand were a much larger family and John Adams, then American ambassador in France, more than once mixed them up. Their chart is sadly reduced of only some of the most prominent members but still helpful in navigating the names mentioned in the letters.

when lafayette was living in paris, and he wasn't yet with the Noailles', where was he living?

Dear @msrandonstuff,

although the Marquis de La Fayette lived at many addresses during his live, his addresses in Paris prior to moving in with the Noailles family were relatively few.

He first lived with his mother and her family in the Palais de Luxembourg before moving into the Collège du Plessis to receive an education. He attended the College for two years. Afterwards he was already moving in with his future family-in-law, the Noailles family, in the Hôtel de Noailles in the Rue St. Honoré 135. He stayed there when he was not away with the army to train in the city of Metz. There he had his own accommodations.
