i'm honestly so obsessed with eleanor and peter's dynamic already - peter is just immediately fond of her. he just, he likes her right off the bat. she's charismatic, and brave, and peter knows it right out of the gate.

peter's so ready to sign those adoption papers. he loves eleanor already. she's everything that he loves in wade.

peter's perpetually in eleanor's corner - he's the soft-willed fun parent - if she can't get her way with wade, she'll run to peter and know that he literally cannot say no.

he thinks that means he's the favourite, but eleanor is a master manipulator just like her biological father and knows exactly who to talk to and what to say to get everything she wants. so if she knows she won't win with wade, she'll trick peter into her bidding. peter is but a naïve pawn in eleanor's games. he believes she can do no wrong, even though every ounce of wade wilson's wickedness courses through her veins. and sometimes eleanor double crosses peter. she has no loyalty. it shocks peter to his core, every time, but she's one step ahead of him, every time.

i can't wait for you guys to see how diabolical eleanor is going to be. oh my god. ohhh my god. see, peter and wade both have dormant supervillain potential within them that they suppress, but eleanor's supervillain gene is Active and she is a Horror.

Oh god not this theory again. I really truly try not to be mean to people for no good reason on this blog, but this theory is literally one of the stupidest fucking things I've ever seen in my entire life. I don't talk about this theory because to me it's like the walten files theory equivalent of that tubby custard mechanically separated chicken post.

Most of the time I genuinely don't even consider it worthy of my time, because it's nonsense, but this is a very nicely worded ask, and I really don't mean to dedicate any of the vitriol I hold towards this theory to You, poor anonymous person, so I will deconstruct it. I will go through the theory point-by-point and deconstruct why I disagree with it.

First up, this:

Showbear is not a character in The Walten Files anymore. Showbear was fully retconned and is never going to appear in the series again. He was effectively just a cameo of ThunderingStatic's (one of Martin's friends) OC, but when The Walten Files blew up and people started assuming Showbear was Martin's character, Static decided to withdraw his character from the series and focus putting him in other projects.

Martin talked about this on Twitter forever ago, but I wouldn't be able to find that tweet now. But here's a bit from the interview he did with KnowYourMeme back in 2021 where he talks about it:

This is just stupid to me? Like a complete logical incongruity? I barely even know how describe what is dumb about this because I can't even fathom how anyone draws this conclusion from this information. How is it strange for a man to say 'if my wife isn't home by the time she said she was going to be, let me know, in case something happened.'????? Why would Rosemary be out cheating on her husband with her fucking daughter with her??? If Rosemary was cheating on her husband why would her whole life collapse when he went missing? If Rosemary was cheating on her husband why would she show up at the restaurant every day after he disappeared asking if anyone had seen him and hoping to find him alive??? Why would she make paintings of herself and him together after he disappeared????? What the fuck are you talking about?

Ok now this:

Whatever. This is maybe the most coherent part of the theory, to me. I definitely agree that Sha evokes a 'wolf in sheep's clothing' sort of aesthetic, but I do remember Martin saying something in a Twitter Q&A at one point about how that wasn't actually intentional, and that Bon was the character he actually meant to seem unusually predatory. I looked for a while and couldn't find a screenshot of that, but I did find this one where he says the thing about Bon:

So whatever. take that with a grain of salt.

I don't even know what to say. here. Whatever. sure she was rolling in the hay

yeah Rosemary is asking if she's still beautiful because she cheated on her husband and not because she was chopped up and stuffed inside a big animatronic sheep. I think this is correct and is the True Deep Lore.of the walten files. I'm sure this doesn't have anything to do with the recurring motif of the double-meaning behind the word Beautiful either.

I don't know why it's weird that the lost lingering spirit of a mother would be calling out to her only living child. I Don't know why that needs additional explanation involving this batshit infidelity conspiracy theory.

Sha's chest is also ripped out

I guess I can't disprove this except that I think this is dumb. I think this is a really incredibly stupid logical leap to make. Y'know I really meant to go into this levelheadedly and very calmly go through every point and talk about why I think it's Decisively Disagreeable or whatever but I can't. I really can't. I just cannot keep my patience with this sort of thing.

You'd think if there was an infidelity aspect here it would've been lampshaded in some respect, at all, in the old /sophiewalten findjackwalten page text. Where it's literally Sophie talking to Jenny about what she remembers about her family.

Especially if the idea is that Sophie is meant to have been there. You'd think something like that would have come up here. Not 'she was nice and a good mom until my dad disappeared and her mental health started getting worse'

Hmmm. i'd say:

Alt AU: Mark finally realizes his mistakes and tries his best to help fix them, even if he can't just reverse all the damage he's done.

Lab au: Mark escapes the lab and tries living a normal life despite his mutations (the canon ending, actually)

HSH: Mark finally lets go of his obsession over the house somehow and never gets trapped in its walls.

Monster au: He never gets caught by the cult and just tries to live a normal life, now reunited with his sister.

Lake: We haven't gotten to Mark's storyline in that au yet, so. womp womp

Thing au: Escapes the research facility with Sarah and tries to recover from the trauma of what happened there (haven't talked about this one much huh.)

in october i read my brilliant friend by elena ferrante and then the story of a new name by elena ferrante and then those who leave and those who stay by elena ferrante and then the story of the lost child by elena ferrante and i was like i hadn't loved a book like this since i was like 16 will i ever find anything i like this much ever again. and i still haven't i don't even really enjoy her other books

#the english titles are so awkward like i kind of get it because the og doesn't have the story in the title for the first book either and i #understand not doing the story of those who leave and those who stay very long. but in french there's no the story of for any of them and #it's much better!#and like i say: brf slt #by december 1st i had read all 4 books twice like i was so obsessed #i haven't watched the show yet i want to i just haven't but i want to i think i will like after i finish watching what i'm watching rn i #hope i like it #and i've read other books i really enjoyed i've read other books i loved. but none that i connected with like that💔#but anyway. i've read basically all her other novels i read troubling love first since that was her first novel i was like hm. then i read #the lying life of adults and i actually really enjoyed it for maybe the first half or for like two thirds of the book like it had potential #and then? i don't know what happened. the last 50 pages especially made me so mad i was like literally what is this. why do we care about #this why are you ending the novel on this??/!?.#then i read the days of abandonment because i wanted to see if i liked it! i did not. i liked it more than troubling love but less than the #lying life of adults. i just started reading the lost daughter today because i'm a completionist and i'm actually liking it fine maybe #because i've seen the movie so i knew what to expect? idk. but it's so frustrating like the neapolitan novels were literary perfection to #me and her other novels are like very average i don't even enjoy them and they're all short like less than 200 pages (except for the lying #life of adults) that's why i finished them and kept reading them. i was also just curious like why am i not liking it!!!!#but i actually know why it's maybe two different things? the neapolitan novels are about two women it's about their relationship and theres #a lot of things about men in the books but still it's all about the two girls while the others are all about one main woman?#except the lying life of adults which is about a girl and her aunt and i think that's why i liked it more at the beginning.#there's that and there's maybe also the fact that we start in my brilliant friend when they're kids and then we see them grow up whereas #in her other books it's like adult women going through...something. again except for the lying life of adults. i didn't #like that one for different reasons it's different because it's from after the neapolitan novels the others are from before. but anyway #it's not like i'm incapable of reading books about adults but yeah i think the coming of age aspect is what made me me like my brilliant #friend and sequels so much like especially in relation to boys and men like just the way it goes is so good. like lila marrying redacted.#very bad but yk it's just all very good #and i also just don't like the style as much? like there's some things i liked or thought were okay+ in the neapolitan novels that are much #more prominent in her other works and when it's not in lila and elena's story it's just not good to me like it's actually bad #anyway. i'm halfway through the lost daughter because it's only 176 pages long and i'm actually having an okay time. but yeah #and it's been less than six months it's not like it's a lost cause or anything and i HAVE read other books i REALLY liked but...

no tbh, i just ship the hyperspecific, highly self catering version of charisk that only exists in my brain

#it's a very weird slightly codependent.. thing. especially on frisk's end #because i was working off of the premise that they must have been abandoned and so very lonely before climbing the mountain #so having chara by their side constantly would've been of tremendous comfort to them and they would get more than a little attached #while chara is basically haunting the underground. constantly wanting to do things again and again and again because they can't let go #(neutral runs basically)#and frisk being so attached to them that they go along. as long as they can stick together #world's least stable 12 year olds #it's not even like i ship them in a kissy smoochie way it's not romantic #but it's definitely more than platonic too y'know. VERY codependent #but also the main appeal to me is the inherent tragedy of it. because in genocide chara becomes stronger and stronger #until frisk is fully put aside as they become aware of and interested in US. players #while in pacifist chara finally lets go and stops haunting the story... and frisk. who has to go on and live their own life #and while they DO have a support system and a new family with them. it's still gonna be a pretty big blow on them #especially since chara holds the SAVE file and the power to reset (even if they did manage it together throughout the game)#and now they're gone. like either way there's no ending where they break the loop AND they stay together #and that concept just makes me insane and is. so underrated. or at least i haven't seen anything with that premise yet #answered asks #hcs

byan in their fledgling verse being more depressed than ever because they feel even more abandoned now than they did in life. byan being angrier than ever because somehow, their life has become even more unfair and they feel like a stupid, worthless kid again, left to fend for themself and figure everything out on their own. again.

this manifesting some days in low energy and them struggling to bother leaving whatever hole in the wall they've crawled into, often sleeping through most if not the entire night. a suicidal urge to step out into the sunlight, but they're physically incapable of bringing themself to do it, to put themself out of their misery. a temptation to let themself get hit by a car just to fucking feel something. hunting around bars and clubs in order to feed on those who are drunk or high so they don't have to spend the night sober.

other times, it manifesting in increased volatility and destruction. they're faster to snap or resort to violence than ever before, many nights spent breaking things, destroying property, and beating anyone who gets in their way. the fights they get into for "fun" are more brutal, get taken farther than they ever used to, sometimes resulting in someone dead at their hands accidentally, still not knowing their new strength and thus not having proper control over it. being more prone to frenzy, but it being as easily triggered by desperate rage as by hunger.

byan being a fucking mess, isolated and furious and not knowing what to fucking do, and concealing this as best they can from the few people they have in their life.

#and they do such a good job of hiding it most of the time. a lifetime of practice has prepared them for this.#or... they do a good job of hiding it until they don't. inevitably someone around them will see how fucked up they are.#it's only a matter of time (':#idk man I woke up with a lot of fledgling verse feelings. I haven't delved all that far into how hard shit's been on them yet #no home... carrying all their belongings on their back at all times... had to abandon their old life entirely for this much worse one...#abandoned by what might as well have been another parent in the form of their sire...#aware that they're considered less than entirely bc they're a thin-blood... that some out there would kill them just for that...#in a lot of ways it does just feel like they're reliving their childhood but fucking worse (:#anyway. Snail games is fucking awful. Utter dogshit, terrible company that deserves to go under but hating ark because of their actions is just childish.

Ark is wildcards game. Not snails. Snail didn't create ark, ark was made by a group of passionate developers who wanted to make something. I'm not saying it's like that now, and I'm not saying wildcard is flawless, but they are doing their best. They are fighting against a shitty company like snail to keep nfts and microtransactions out of the game while dealing with fuckwads sending them and their families death threats over a dinosaur game.

Hoping that asa, ark 2, and ase fail, 'boycotting' it, and sending people death threats because a bad company is taking advantage of a game studio and their game is dumb as hell and makes you look like a whiny bitch.

#so my characters are becoming EXTREMELY independent and i haven't even finished the first chapter yet #*sharpay voice* 'this is not what i planned' lol #kay specifically is just doing whatever the heck he wants #my original conception of his character was that he was very socially aloof and kind of deliberately cultivated the 'tragic artist' vibe #but currently he's turning out a bit like tom from the glass menagerie and he's trying to be an EXTROVERT. darling you're not an extrovert?#stop being so charming??? where did you get those social skills?? I DIDN'T GIVE YOU THOSE GET BACK HERE #meanwhile gerda is being quieter than i had anticipated BUT not uncomfortable around people #which i think i like for her #she's not necessarily a 'social butterfly' but she gets along with everyone and everyone knows her #she overall is very comfortable with her environment and with who she is #she's not quite a woman but has already begun to hollow out her #own little place in her community to make it a home #(the problem is she doesn't know who she is to everyone else and #what she means to them. and by 'everyone else' i mainly mean kay but he's not the only one #she wants to know how to be of value within her community and what exactly that means)#she knows who she is in her community but doesn't have a sense of who she is on her own #meanwhile kay is so uncomfortable with where he is and who he is. you look at him and you feel he might jump out of his own skin any #minute and shed it like a snake #he feels that the safe haven he's grown up in is confining him like a childhood bed you outgrow #and he's seen so many people leave for good and so many people close to him in abandoning him have apparently found something out there #that fulfills them and is more important than he was to them that he feels there MUST be something out there to fill the void inside him #that's eating him alive #he can see the beauty of his little world around him but he only as representative of the greater beauty that must lie beyond #am i saying abandonment breeds abandonment? i don't know?#and it's this point of tension that lies between them unspoken because how do you address something that integral to your being at that #age? how do you even articulate it? can you even make sense of it in your own head?#but the tension is there and they both feel it and it grows more tangible the older they get and IF ONLY I COULD TRANSLATE IT TO PAPER #anyway sorry feel free to ignore this just working out writing problems in the tags #val's ocs
