a/n: hey everyone! after being obsessed with borhap like everyone else for the last couple months i finally caved and made a sideblog/wrote this and decided to post it. so this is my first official roger taylor fic! the title is groupie love by lana del rey just bc i think it fits well and i listened to it a ton while writing this lol. let me know what you think!

New York City: February 5, 1977

The living room of the apartment is already in disarray from excited, drunk partygoers, although no one actually knows if the band is here yet or not. You lean against the wall, holding a strong mixture of mystery alcohol and some kind of fruit juice in your hand. You can’t help but feel excited – sneaking backstage and into afterparties always gave you such a rush of adrenaline – but nothing could compare to your excitement tonight. You’re still buzzing from Queen’s performance at Madison Square Garden, and from the success of one of your most daring stunts yet: sneaking into the private, record-label-organized afterparty of one of the most popular bands in the world, already slightly drunk, with your very drunk roommate Betty. You’re still in the process of patting yourself on the back when the crowd begins to cheer; Queen has officially arrived.

Betty giggles. “This is so fun, Y/N!”

You resist the urge to look over at the band and nod. “It’s exciting.”

“And you do this all the time?!”

“Well, not all the time.” You say, smirking. “Just when people I like are here.”

“So when do we get to say hi to the band?” Betty asks distractedly, taking a sip of her drink and glancing around the room.

“We have to wait until we get someone’s attention.”

Betty’s gaze lingers on the band for a moment, then she whips back around to face you and snorts into her drink. “I guess we don’t have to wait very long, then. Roger Taylor is staring at you.”

You look over your head and sure enough, Roger Taylor is staring at you, with a playful smirk on his face. A hint of a smile graces your face as you make eye contact with him, then you settle your gaze back on Betty, finishing off your drink. “C’mon, let’s go to the bar.”

Roger doesn’t quite know what’s hit him as he walks into the room, fresh off the stage of Madison Square Garden. The crowd had been electric, and despite having a few minutes between the show and the party, his heart is still beating out of his chest.

“Good show, Roger,” a girl giggles as she flits past him. He watches her go for a minute before turning back to say something to Freddie. But before he gets the opportunity – his eye catches on a girl across the room from him, holding a drink and talking animatedly with another girl.

“What was that, Rog?” Freddie asks, but Roger doesn’t reply. Sighing, Freddie follows his friend’s gaze, groaning when he spots you.

“Who’s that, Fred?”

Freddie smiles, just a little, at the awestruck look on Roger’s face. “I have simply no idea who she is or how she got here, dear. But her friend’s looking so you’d better change your expression. Wouldn’t want you to lose that darling playboy image you’ve worked so hard maintain.”

“Oh, piss off,” Roger mutters, but he follows his friend’s advice just in time to make eye contact with the girl. A smile ghosts over her face before she looks back at her friend, finishing her drink. Hardly thinking straight, Roger takes a step towards the bar.

“Where’s he going now?” Brian asks Freddie from behind him. “I thought Reid wanted to talk to us before everything gets too crazy.”

Freddie must make some snarky comment about him, because Roger can hear Brian laughing behind his back, but he doesn’t care. He’ll get them back later.

You’re ordering your fourth drink of the night with Betty beside you, reveling in how everything has become light and soft around the edges, when suddenly Betty’s eyes go wide.

“Oh, what? You’ve already talked to the bassist – which is the one thing you wanted to do tonight, might I remind you – what else could you possibly be freaking out about?”

Betty looks down at her glass as you hear a soft chuckle come from behind you. “So you have a thing for Deaky, then?”

You freeze, knowing immediately who the voice belongs to, then turn around. “Not me,” you say, smiling softly. “That’s my friend, Betty.”

“And your name is…?”

“I’m Y/N.”

“Roger,” he says. “But you probably already knew that.”

“Cocky,” you smirk. “But you’re right, I did.”

“You were at the show tonight then, I assume?”

“We were!” Betty exclaims, her voice a sudden reminder that you and Roger are not the only people in the room.

“You know,” Roger starts. “I’m sure Deaky would love to continue your conversation from earlier? He’s not usually a huge fan of these sorts of scenarios. I mean –” he coughs. “If that’s okay with you, Y/N.”

Betty laughs. “I’m sure it’s fine.”

You turn back to face her and wink. “I’ll be okay. Go have fun!”

With Betty gone off in search of her beloved bassist, Roger slides closer to you, his hand falling over yours. You smile, excitement growing in the pit of your stomach.

“Now, if this was a real bar, I’d offer to buy you a drink and then take you somewhere more private,” he grins.

“Well, unfortunately for me, I already have a rather full drink,” you say.

“So I suppose all I can do is take you somewhere more private.”

“I suppose you’re right.” Your heart is pounding in your chest and internally you curse yourself. You were what many would call a groupie, you had done this exact routine nearly a hundred times – so why did you feel so nervous?

Roger’s grin widens, and he wraps his arm around your shoulders, steering you towards the door to the terrace. It’s freezing outside, but Roger keeps his arm around you, his thumb brushing against your hip, and you can barely feel the frigid New York air.

“So, my first question is… how did you get into this party?” He bites his lip, smiling widely.

You shrug, trying not to focus on the way his shirt is completely unbuttoned or how he’s looking at you with his lip between his teeth. You feel almost like a sixteen-year-old girl again, the way you’re blushing, the butterflies in your stomach. Or maybe it’s just the alcohol. You’ve been with your fair share of men – your fair share of rockstars, even – and yet you’re painfully aware of how close Roger is to you, the way his fingers dance on your skin, occasionally slipping just under the hem of your shirt. You’ve been with your fair share of rockstars, yes, but none of them have had this kind of hold over you.

He chuckles, reminding you that you haven’t answered his question yet. “Oh. I guess it’s how most other girls get into these kinds of parties,” you answer as innocently as you can. “Your crew is easily persuaded.” You shift your body ever so slightly, so that Roger’s whole hand can rest more comfortably on your hip.

“That’s not true,” he laughs. “My crew is easily persuaded by pretty girls. That’s a very important distinction.”

You smile, taking the last sip of your drink. “That’s probably more accurate.” You stand there for a moment longer before you start to shiver.

He pauses in the middle of his sentence. “Sorry – are you cold?”

You can’t help but burst into laughter. Your last drink has fully hit you now and suddenly everything is funny – especially the idea that you might possibly be cold while standing outside in New York in February, wearing only a short sleeved shirt and a skirt with sheer tights underneath.

“Yeah, just a little bit. I’m also,” you pause for dramatic effect. “In need of another drink.” You stumble a bit when you take your weight off the railing, but Roger’s grip on your waist tightens and you find yourself toppling into his chest.

“Maybe you don’t need another drink,” he chuckles.

“You’re also drunk,” you chide, laughing. “You were slurring your words a lil’ bit back there too, I noticed. Plus, I’m okay. I’m fun drunk.”

“You’re something, that’s for sure,” he says, and your heart stops for a minute when you catch his eye. He looks… soft. Who would have guessed it. Roger Taylor, notorious womanizer, soft? You stare at him for a second longer as he leads you to one of the couches in the corner of the room, stumbling a little as he walks. You have half a mind to bring this up and make fun of him for being just as drunk as you are, but you’re distracted by the eager look on his face as he sits down on the couch.

“So I feel like I haven’t really gotten to know you.” His hand rests on your knee and your heart hammers in your chest – come on, Y/N, what’s gotten into you?! – and blushing, you lift your gaze to meet his.

“What do you want to know?” You ask, turning your body towards him. His hand trails ever so lightly up your thigh to your waist and your whole body feels as if it’s on fire. Once again you’re aware that you’re close enough to Roger to feel his heart pounding. He’s mere centimeters from you, and without thinking you bite down on your bottom lip again. He laughs – not really a laugh, more of an exhale – and before you can fully look up at him his mouth is on yours.

To say that he leaned into you would be an overstatement. A more accurate way to put it would be that he fell into you. It’s a lazy kind of kiss, a sweet one; not what you had come to expect from his reputation. It only lasts a second, and that’s another surprising thing, but when he pulls away he only looks at you for half a heartbeat and then he’s kissing you again. He pulls you closer to him, one of his hands gripping your waist as your hands tangle in his hair. You must tug on his hair in the midst of all this because he opens his mouth ever so slightly to moan, the vibrations rippling through your body. You laugh, and he takes this opportunity to slip his tongue between your lips. This kiss – this is what you had expected from Roger Taylor. It’s all passion. You can feel his hand burning into your waist, and excitement bubbles up in your chest. You had made fun of Betty earlier for making her dreams come true, talking to her bassist – and now here you were, on the couch in a crowded living room, making out with Roger Taylor.

After what feels like hours, he pulls away, breathing hard. His pupils are blown wide, hair a tangled mess, and you realize with a shock that you’re now sitting on his lap. With a dazed smile on his face, Roger slides out from under you and stands. “I’ll be right back – I’m going to get a drink.”

You sit there in blissful satisfaction for a moment, watching him make his way towards the bar, when someone sits down next to you.

“Y/N!” She hisses. It’s Betty, jolting you out of your dreamy, post-makeout haze. “It’s almost four in the morning and I have to be at work at nine!”

You giggle. “You sound sober.”

“I feel sober! We have to go home!” She hops back up, grabbing your arm and tugging at you.

“I can’t leave,” you say seriously.

“Yes you can,” Betty replies. “I’m making the executive decision, let’s go.”

Sighing, you stand, wobbling a little as you and Betty start walking. “I have to – I have to say goodbye to Roger.”

“Mhm,” Betty hums, taking your hand. “If you see him, you can wave, but we’re not stopping. C’mon, let’s get home.”

Suddenly, you feel overwhelmingly tired, barely able to keep your eyes open. Somehow, the two of you stumble out of the apartment complex and into the snowy street. Betty manages to hail a cab and before you know it, you’re back in your apartment, dressed in warm pajamas and covered in blankets, a glass of water on the nightstand next to you. There’s something in the back of your mind bothering you, something you know you should have done, but you can’t possibly be bothered to remember right now, so instead you burrow down further into your blankets and drift off to sleep.

When Roger makes his way back to the couch from the bar holding two cups of water, he finds it empty. His heart drops to his knees, it feels like, as he sits down. This is an uncommon feeling for him. He’s been with his fair share of women – his fair share of groupies – and yet he is painfully aware that you’re no longer sitting on the couch next to him. That you had left without saying goodbye – and that he had no way to find you again.

- Appearance Short and really thin (my mom said i need to put on more weight but i think i am really fat lol). 153.5 cm, i wear glasses cause i can’t see without my harry potter glasses, long arms and legs but short/small body proportions. uhh i have thigh gaps and look a LOT like a nerd. born with a tan skin (like my dad💓), my eyes actually kinda big but bcs i always sleep late since i was a kid, panda eyes are one of me now, making my eyes look small and tired 24/7 of times. I have a resting bitch face so it makes me looks angry or upset most of the time ouo (if you guys see me in real life, you’ll hate me -seriously). my nose is kinda small??? I am plain; my friends said i’m like a piece of wood bcs “thin and have no ups nor the jibooty”. i have slightly thick lips and a small face :)

- Personality i love to make things over dramatic (cAPS ALL OVER THE PLACE), when i involved in a fight or someone makes me angry, i always forgive them (and all people i know) before i go to sleep every day. my expressions scream my emotions ouo i do get annoyed easily, i love dramas (yall see me reblogging dramas in the ji.k tag so 🤷‍♀️ ), when i was 12 i got a nickname ‘Princess Joker’ (we never knew a Harley Quinn) because i’m ‘funny’... but i’m not that funny now ouo NEXT i am really awkward, if you chat with me on tumblr... we will stop talking like in a month bcs i’m not good at making or keeping up with conversations (i am so sorry for everyone in my dm ;; thank you for taking your time to talk with me but in the end i just fckd it up and... we just don’t talk anymore :/ ) okay, but on a serious note, if you ever hit me up in the dm, i can chat for 2-3 days but to keep it for weeks? nope, sorry (i dont even chat with my best friends 🤷‍♀️ ) lastly, i think about someone actions when they did something bad(?) bcs i was once depressed, so i think i started to think any possible reasons if someone does bad things to other people just because i did bad things when my mind once messed up too

- Ability i have basic korean (still trying to learn so i can talk and understand more of the words but i can have a decent conversation👀) i can rap, sing (but a more average) and really love to dance. my studies are okay despite being a lazy ass and fangirling 24/7 a day (my mom said bcs i got my dad’s DNA eue that’s why i’m slightly smart but i don’t think i’m that smart like my classmates). I have basic editing skills; photos (real basic) and videos (this is decent meh) oh i know how to gifs too ^^ i can do arts that involve colors because i can’t draw well, but if i put my heart into it i can do some decent drawings.... i think... my mom said i’m an all-rounder (or in armys dictionary: Golden) except for any science related things (i still dont know why i am a pure science student wth) If i saw juniors that has any bts related merchandises, ill go straight up to them and shamelessly go “YO WHO’S YOUR BIAS?” 😂😂😂 i can counsel people apparently (it doesn’t look like it... but i can.. weirdly o.o) sometimes my prediction come true (sometimes ok) that is all i guess... idk anymore aaaaa i have 0 ability jahsgfdakshbcadjs oh wait- i can fangirl, and very good at it eue

- Relationships For now, married to my finals. if my results next year is the worse than my two big exams; we are getting a divorce on that very day

- Experiences uhh sometimes i have panic attacks because i tend to overthink things(?)

- My Life All are great now💜  i’m happy even though there are some holes here and there, but i’m okay :)

- Random Things I had written fanfictions... but i’m not writing anymore. I’d done a graduation video on behalf of the school (aka the principal) for my batch for our graduation day and many of em’ got emotional esp me :’) i am really close with my brother but we don’t really look the same, so many people mistook us as a couple if we go out. I always number 5 in class during my exams. While writing this, i am actually watching Masterchef USA S3 because i just found out about Christine. The Librarians are the reason I continue being a librarian in my school. My first non-kpop group that i love genuinely is Fifth Harmony (since Worth It), now i still in love with my Camila; she’s a great artist, check her out💜 I don't use make up but i enjoy watching make up videos, km moments make me cry every single time, i really love Jeongguk; okbyeeee

WHEPHEW what a busy weekend. journal-blogging it up bc it was a Good one and i wanna remember it

friday after work started with the birthday party for the town multicultural center!! one of my housemates plays in a marching/brass band and they performed at it, everyone drank free margaritas and had chips/salsa/cupcakes, and then we tried to play a pretty unsucessful game of 4-square with some children and made me realize what a difference height makes in that sport (we had to play in like, Ultra Squat position to be on the same level as the kids, so basically Leg Day).

friday night was ALSO the first Bike Party of the year, where everyone puts on costumes for that month’s theme (this one was “safari”), meet up behind the bike shop and the guy with the solar powered speakers on a bike trailer starts playing a bunch of music, and then we bike up and down main st and wave to the tourists and then have a roving dance party around town. usually in the culverts below the roads, under the highway bridge north of town, or along the bike path past the campgrounds (sometimes picking up extra people from the campsites who feel like partyin). generally you get to an area, dance for 30-45minutes, then bike to the next, dance more, etc. VERY EXERCISE I always forget how tiring it is ;_; but this is the last time it’ll be on a friday for a while cause Tourist Season, so it’s probably the last one me and all my housemates could get to together. we wore our matching zebra onesies (that we got for our blanket fort house party back in february) and there were two other zebras also in attendance. another friend dressed up as “the jungle” and i’m jealous I didn’t think of that first. it was VERY COLD THOUGH like FUCK it snowed for twenty whole minutes in the morning. luckily the onesie is  pretty warm. but we didn’t bike home till about midnight and i was So Sore the next day

saturday!! i was lazy and slept forever which was Excellent and then in the afternoon, met up with another mermaid visiting from Salt Lake with her family! i met up with her at her hotel and we swam in the pool for like 40 minutes before Noping out because it was cold and just sitting in the hot tub to chat instead lol. it was fun though! i’ve never met up with another mermaid for swimming before (the other time i tried we were rained out, but went to the aquarium instead, which was also super awesome) so that was neat! she had a Kariel sequin tail, which i’ve never seen up close before (40,000 sequins!!!!!), so that was cool. 

after that i went to a friends bday party! which started out totally normal (chatting, lots of food, his dad was in town so talked to him a bit), then did a pinata (did u know adults trying to smack a pinata is even more hilarious than than when children do it), then chatted a bit more and at like 10pm people started dancin. except three dudes were sort of alternating selecting songs were like, trying to make the styles as opposing as possible (hardcore rap followed by slow lyrical ballad followed by bouncy disney) and it became kind of a competition to... keep dancing anyway??? no matter how weird the songs got?? culminating in a swaying Hug Circle to My Heart Will Go On, squiggling amoeba-like through the living room and kitchen to envelop Music Selection Dude #2 Who Hated That Song but was standing by the computer and we were worried he was gonna change it, and then everyone just... slowly grabbed his body and held it horizontally, then lifted him into the air and slowly spun him in circles just below the ceiling before gently lowering him onto the floor (where he remained perfectly motionless) and doing synchronized hand waving over his body. IT GOT REALLY WEIRD. but no one questioned it everyone was perfectly silent or singing along to the lyrics until the song ended. what the fuck. i haven’t been part of something That bizarre since college (tho to be fair, there were a Lot of those moments in college). anyway party lasted until a bit after midnight.

TODAY SUNDAY!! at 9am met up with folks to go WHITE WATER RAFTING! it was the going away party for a friend, so we got a bunch of gear together/a pal’s free boat rental for working at a river company, and some personal boats, so 3 boats and about 12 people. second time ive been on the river this season, the first was february and Very cold/total splash guards against the water, but today was the first decent day this week! about 50-60F all day, though the water was a lot colder (although what the fuck is going ON this is the DESERT we should be like in the 70-80s range this time of year). everything went great at first, the rapids were easy, we rafted for a couple hours and then docked at a winery with a helpful pier, and jumped inside for buffet lunch and optional wine tasting. which like, WHAT an excellent concept, i hear they’re doing brunches soon, and whitewater rafting into/out of a fancy brunch seems IDEAL tbh.

...buuuuut we got to the first rapid after the winery/last rapid we were gonna hit of the day and just. totally flipped. we lost back left paddler (who took a drink of wine from his beer can like RIGHT as we went into the rapid smh) almost immediately, and i turned to see what happened to him (i was back right), and noticed that our captain/acting guide was just ALSO GONE??? I still don’t know HOW he fell out i guess he just catapulted on the first big wave... everyone (sans myself) was pretty drunk and at high water level (~15,000cfs) you can go straight through (or, RDTFM, aka “right down the fucking middle”, thats ur whitewater lingo for the day), but it was only at like ~8000cfs today so instead there was just... a rock. so chuck (acting captain) pops up a second later and manages to grab the boat, i haul him in, turn around to see charlie (back left paddle) somehow on the other side of our raft now floating the rapid, and two of the front paddlers trying unsuccessfully to reach him.

 then i look forward and OH GOD there is ANOTHER huge dip in front of us leading to aforementioned rock, and I sort of leapt to the left side/charlie’s spot to try to paddle off it, but no one was paying enough attention to coordinate and so we slammed it and the boat went riiiiiiight over. like, the most dramatic long-ways flip i’ve ever seen, threw/shoved us all down into the water. mostly i was thinking “OH FUCK” but also “SHOULDN’T HAVE BOTHERED PULL CHUCK BACK IN”, was under for maybe 5 seconds total, then popped up right behind the raft. pretty much everyone managed to hold onto the tie line and somehow i guess we also landed on charlie again so he had a hold as well. until we hit the next rock anyway, which popped the boat up for a second/swept me underwater and under the boat, and i ended up hand-over-handing it out onto the front side. which was easier for visibility/expectations but also i could see 10 feet in front of me that my backpack had come unsecured and was floating down the river without me, holding my phone (thankfully in a lifeproof/very waterproof case bc i’m not a Fool who takes electronics on rafting trips with no backup) and driver’s license and glasses hostage. and like 80% of me was ready to dive after it but while i’m an idiot i’m not That much of an idiot so i held onto the boat instead and watched it get farther and farther off. the first of our boats that went through (a  dinghy with two passengers) was waiting for us downstream and seemed like they were gonna get it, but then one of our people got swept way downstream so they were on mission Rescue Susan instead. but anyway after a very charged minute or so that felt more like ten, we managed to kick ourselves into an eddy and get over to the shore. 

at which point i became very confused bc our group now had 3 more people in it than were in our boat??? which is when i realized that our third boat, whcih had been behind us, had also capsized and dunked all passengers. but theirs was still trapped in the current (for like 5 whole minutes just bouncing on top of the first big rapid) so they all swam sans gear to where we ended up. anyway i sloshed to a nearby beach where some concerned rafters were watching (turned out to be our #3 boat guide’s coworkers, who’s company we were renting gear from, whoops), and over a ridge, and saw that boat #1 had sucessfully reclaimed susan, and a kind kayaker had saved both my backpack and one of our paddles. we dried off for a bit and checked everything over miraculously, the only casualties were some hats and sunglasses, one item per every person who flipped. the river gods were kind in their choice of sacrifices today. then we boated the last mile out and lay in the sand warming up until our car shuttle finished, and my friend who’s bday party i went to the night before & his gf & dad boated up RIGHT after us (they were also all at the multicultural center event friday) and laughed at us for having flipped. ah tiny desert towns. you see Everyone everywhere all the time. and i’ll see them again on wednesday for D&D so more mockery inbound.

anyway i got home and me n my roommate (also on the trip) took some VERY long/hot showers, drank some hot chocolate, and then watched cop drama tv shows in bed under the covers for 2 hours before ordering takeout soup and laying in bed some more. now i am laying in bed and about to go to sleep bc i’m exhausted but apparently still enough of an insomniac to never go to bed before midnight.
