#saturdaynight drams and I get a lot of questions about #japanesewhisky and what to drink or buy. To me the 4 to focus on are #suntorywhisky who produce #hibiki, #hakushu and #yamazaki. Then #nikkawhisky which does #nikkayoichi and #nikkamiyagikyo. Then one of the funnest is #ichirosmaltchichibu they do tons of #singlecask whisky and special editions. Then last but by no means least the mighty #karuizawa whiskies. Use these 4 as your guide as their are now a ton of faux Japanese whisky trying to ride the wave and it’s all bullshit pisswater. You will see all the fake #whisky in grocery stores and places like Costco, don’t be confused, trust me it’s no good. There are 2 other Japanese ones, #akashi and #marsshinshu which I don’t drink or collect but I have heard are good. Be smart and aware, it’s not getting pretty out there with the huge demand for Japanese whisky. Restaurants are pulling the same shit too, with faux Japanese whiskies on their menus. The #taketsuru 12 embodies all that is great about #japanesewhisky. Not many 12 year olds deliver such haromoniois notes. The nosing brings toffee and floral notes to the fore while the palate is spice based with a touch of sugar sweetness and passing smoke. Its a shame this is discontinued. Two excellent #PureMalt whiskies out of #Japan. The #taketsuru21 from #nikkaDistillery and the MWR by #ichiros. For me the MWR is amazing value for money with the whisky being aged purely in #Mizunara casks. Incense notes coming in strong with a peppery and sweet apple profile. For those that don't know Pure Malt is a term used when a blended whisky is composed solely of single malt whiskies from different distilleries. I recently did my top five for the year and left #yamazaki25 out. It is by far the best whisky I have ever tried. BUT the reality is why rank a product so high when most will never get a chance to try. If you ever get a chance to go to the distillery in Japan do pop into the bar and have this gem. It has everything you need in a great whisky. Arguably the best #whisky I have tried. The #hibiki 30 brings together all the #suntory elements together in perfect harmony. Honey pepper and dried fruits sweetness on the nose while the palate is full of toffee, dried apricots touch of Mizunara and passing smoke. The finish brings in some of the quality oak notes while maintaining notes of the palate.
