Wednesday finally felt as if she had recovered from Family Weekend here at Nevermore. The stress of them all being there at the same time was almost too much to bare. Almost. If it hadn't been for the mystery that was her father being accused of murder, she probably would have gave up on that visit halfway through.

What she had not expected was her mother sitting on a bed in her room she shared with Enid, the drawing of her and Crackstone in front of her. Her eyes gazed down at the drawing before daring to approach the older woman. She grabbed the drawing before taking it back to her desk. "I was not aware that you have the authority to search my room now that I am no longer under your roof."

" Tish , GREAT to see ya. " He smiles boardly, finally at ease at this miserable school event. " The kids' aim is really getting good. Got some real quality AXE THROWERS there."

FAMILIAR KNOCKING OF AMBITION is her heart beating in her chest . oh , what she wouldn't do to get back in the good graces of the fbi , but as more time passes since the evelda drumgo fiasco , the more the STING sets in that it might be too late . the death angel , as the national tattler had coined her , had already fallen from grace and crawford was no longer there to catch her . this doesn't keep her from the chase , the very thing which both kept her in the bureau basement and could get her out : HANNIBAL THE CANNIBAL .

they were breadcrumbs at best , periodic taunts left behind saying I'M HERE , COME CATCH ME . and just as she'd been condemned to remember that dumb animal hurt in boys' faces before the academy , she'd be condemned to go after this one man . this time , he'd left her what appeared to have been a piece of a person , and with it a letter :

the fbi would see to it that you fail , clarice ... wouldn't that sting ?! i myself do not . in fact , i'd very much enjoy it if you found me , clarice . what do you think they'd do ? do you think that they'll reinstate you , clear your name ? i'm curious to find out . i think you already know the answer . happy hunting , clarice . tata , h .

the letter leaves her with a haunting chill and that familiar surface shine in her eyes , searching for an answer . or perhaps it's the peculiar woman who traipsed 'pon the ground ? " ma'am , uh hey , excuse me ma'am ... " letter quickly shoved in evidence bag and into pocket . " you can't be here , this is an active crime scene ! "

silence is her best friend; her greatest confidant. nobody revels in silence as much as wednesday does, which is why she's learned to never comment on it when she has it. in the addams household, silence has a tendency to slip through fingers like water.

"there's no such thing, mother," the girl replies bluntly, steely gaze locked on the sketch pad that she rests upon her lap. one might coo at the sight of her occupying herself with little more than a pencil and paper, but look closer and you'll be mortified at the sight of a detailed sketch of her poor brother strapped to a guillotine, blade extra sharp and shiny.

"besides," she begins after a beat of consideration, "within the silence is where i hatch my darkest ideas. you should be promoting such growth and intellectual stimulation." that's certainly one way to put it. when a hand carefully traces pugsley's agape jaw, her own lips twitch, as if threatening to form a smile.

" HAVE you not heard? " he continued. " Box Five is reserved for the Opera Ghost. I suggest you leave, Madame, before a most unfortunate fate befalls you. "

“Mother.” Wednesday swatted away the hand that had risen to fix some perceived flaw with her make-up, eyes narrowing. She did not wish to participate in this extravagant family photoshoot to begin with, however had begrudgingly agreed. She would not tolerate her mother fussing over her. The entire family was dressed in their best holiday outfits, even Thing had managed to find a miniature Christmas hat that fit, standing in front of the fireplace where her mother had insisted they take the photos. “Are we almost finished?” Wednesday could think of plenty of things she would rather be doing than this.
