You had brought home an otter plush home one day, in your shared home with The Chief Justice himself. You walked through the doors of your home with a big smile on your face. Your impulse buy had brought you great joy, and this did not go unnoticed. Neuvillette had seen you walk through the door, expecting you to notice that he was home early.
You, however, just went straight to the shared bedroom and cuddled the otter plush close. You tossed and turned a bit, feeling so content in the moment. Neuvillette had walked slowly into the room, seeing you cuddling the plush. His eyebrows raised, seemingly intrigued by the scene that had played out in front of him. He coughed softly, trying to get your attention.
You had stopped tossing and rolling around on the bed as you messed up the sheets. His voice had caused your focus to be pulled to him. He smiled softly at you as his eyes glanced down to the otter plush that was held tight in your grasps. He walked closer to you to get a better look.
“What do you have there, my dear?”
You looked up at him with a big, bright smile. You pulled the otter plush in front of him to showcase it. He was confused as to why you would buy such a thing. He couldn’t help but lightly blush at how excited you look. He didn’t understand how such a simple plush could bring so much energy out of you.
“An otter plushie!”
After a few weeks of your attention being solely on the plush, Fontaine’s skies had been more gray and full of rain. You didn’t notice this change, being so focused on your plushie. Neuvillette had had it with you, however, not liking that this otter plush was eating up so much of your time. His jealousy for the plush grew ever second he saw you with it. So he had faced you in the living room, as you guarded the plush away from his grasps.
“My dear, please hand me the plush.”
You shook your head in defiance of his order. His voice was very demanding, and it was odd to hear it. He was never like this, so you didn’t understand why he wanted your plush. But instead of asking why he wanted it, you only protested. His eyes filled with jealousy as he heard your soft voice.
“Noo, he’s my son and I love him! I named him, too.”
As you called the plushie your son, it deeply confused Neuvillette. How could a plush be your child? And you naming it intrigued him more. He got closer to you, wanting you to just hold him instead of the plushy in your hands. You backed away instinctively.
“You’re son?”
You nodded and Neuvillette’s question. He just couldn’t bring himself to understand why you would feel such a paternal connection with a plush that couldn’t give you affection back. The storm outside got worse as his sadness got worse. He only wanted you to hug him, to discard the plush and give him your touch and love to him.
“Yes, my son and his name is Neuvi Jr.”
He stopped in his tracks. More confusion had made itself present as his face wrinkled ever so slightly. Why did you give it a name like him? His only conclusion was to replace him. His hands dropped to his side as he shuddered a breath out of his lips.
You looked at him confused, not knowing what his body language meant. You slowly walked up to him with the otter plush still in your arms. His eyes were fixated on the plush, trying his best to burn it with his gaze. You held it out in front of Neuvillette as its black, beaded eyes stared into his. He looked behind the plush to meet your gaze.
“What are you doing?”
He was trying so hard to choke back tears. You only gave him a soft smile, holding the plush expectantly. You urged him to hold it, and he gently took it from your hands. He gently touched your skin, needing to feel it again, as he now was holding the plush. He stared at it, not sure what to do with it.
“I named it Neuvi Jr. because it looks like you! And sometimes I get lonely when you’re out doing trials all day, so I thought that maybe this would help the lonely feeling.”
Neuvillette didn’t expect that to be your answer, or for you to respond like that at all. He felt bad for leaving you alone all day, but he needed to work. He still stared at the plush as something changed within him. He quickly became attached to it, and he walked up to you.
He brought his body close, his hands still on the plush. He wanted you to wrap your arms around him as his were busy gently holding the plush. You giggled at his now new attachment to the plush he was just angry with a bit ago. You gently wrapped your hands around his neck, bringing yourself closer to him. The rain had stopped as Neuvillette finally got the hug he desperately needed from you.
“So you weren’t trying to replace me?”
You gave him a baffled look. How could he have thought of such a thing? It made you feel so sorrowful when you realize what had been going on. You hugged him tighter as you buried your face in his chest. He blushed, feeling you get so close after so long of being touch starved. Your voice was soft, a melody he needed on repeat.
“What? Of course not! You’re the only Neuvillette, nothing could replace you!”
Comfortable silence enveloped the both of you. He needed this, especially after the long period of neglect from you. His grip was still on the plushie, but his face nuzzled into your arms, and you held him close. He wanted nothing to break this moment. You giggled, feeling his soft cheek rub against your arm.
“Can I have my plush back?”
He looked down at you with such seriousness in his eyes. Your arms were still entwined on his neck. He smiled softly at you, and you knew what this meant. He brought his lips to your ears as he whispered ever so softly. His soft disagreement came.
“No, it’s mine now.”
So you had to go and get a new one, as Neuvillette kept Neuvi Jr. in his office. He finally understood why you bought it, because when he glanced at the otter plush sitting on the couch, his mind went to you immediately. He got done with work a lot faster too, not wanting to leave you alone anymore, knowing how lonely you got. He made exceptions for the new plush you got, as long as he got the needed attention from you and the reassurance that he was enough for you. Your new plush would often find its way into some of your cuddle sessions, however.

fontaine spoilers!! nothing too specific about the storyline itself, but be warned regardless.
hoyoverse did a great job of combining the desperation and need for validation of being a celebrity, with the responsibility and maturity of being a god.
because what both of these have in common is isolation.
an archon doesn't have anyone to confide in! do you think ei is casually bringing up whatever contact she's had with celestia in a conversation with her buddy, yae miko? do you think venti is drunkenly rambling about the archon war with his bestie, jean? neither of them are! the reason zhongli/morax made the deal for his humanity was, as far as I'm concerned, rooted foremost in this same loneliness, which he has potentially experienced for the longest out of any archon!
and furina is a great portrayal of this isolation! she plays to the people's needs, because the people get their entertainment from justice, and justice comes from the oratrice. so, rather than even getting the option to rule, her job is to play to both of their interests and grasp at straws for the illusion of power. the way she does this? by being loud! annoying!! expressive!! theatric!! all in a court of law. her job is to grab the people's attention and not let it go, in the exact same way a celebrity might! and, as a result, even the eyes of the machine of justice are on her, and she can finally feel like the one in power! but after this is over, standing in the crowd as everyone leaves, she's yet again just "the hydro archon," not "the great focalors, loved and revered by her people."
until a contact of hers from sumeru comes along, and reports that a blonde-haired traveller is saying their last goodbyes before making their way towards the water. and she can use this as an opportunity to figure out one thing: is she going to run, or will this be her greatest opera yet?
kinda tldr: support women's wrongs!! there's more to furina than the loud, brash show she tries to put on, I'm very sure of it. also, the isolation that comes with archons and celebrities have a lot of overlap, if you think about it.
p.s.: let her be a bad archon instead of insisting neuvillette is the "real" hydro archon!! we all know he's an otter (/j). even though I think she's doing a pretty good job (better than I would, in her spot), I'd prefer the worst archon in the world who has a personality and brings us a story over the sidekick-who-is-secretly-the-mastermind trope, resulting in her being discarded! neuvillette has enough on his plate anyway, with the melusines, the trials, and the rain.
