hello everyone!!! me and a couple friends (KlTAKI on twit and miserablledog on twit) are putting together a wol trade at ndk denver this year!! we missed out on fanfest (didnt get tickets booooo), and would like to meet new ffxiv friends as well! yeah the con is 2.5 weeks away but you don't have to trade stickers! you can bring photocards, charms, prints, whatever!

as of right now (aug 14), we do not have the location and exact time, but we are planning to have it on saturday sept 2 in the mid afternoon! miserablledog and i will have a table at artist alley, so we won't physically be at the trade, but we'll have wol stickers all weekend available!

Cosplayer @trinityren City: Denver, CO

During this time, the thing that kept me going was cosplay and the support of my parents and my friends. The same friends that agreed to cosplay with me and participate in the competition that year!

I wanted to put my skills to the test by making five CLAMP cosplay because I absolutely love CLAMP. The Sakura-viewing outfits were always one that I was attracted to because they were downright beautiful and I wanted to feel pretty for once in my life.

Since there were five of us, I ended up taking Sayoron-Li and doing his outfit again only opposite, as in the series he finds his own opposite clone, if you want to call it that.

I entered us in the Intermediate level of Nan Desu Kan's cosplay competition because I thought that's all I would ever be able to do. And while I didn't win any awards that year. I got cornered by my new friends from the department and was told I wouldn't be allowed to compete anymore if I didn't move up to Master's level.

That was the push I needed to really expand not only my skills, but my confidence.

I started cosplaying in 2003. My high school best friend and I learned about anime cons and we were just about to start our sophomore year of high school. I was 15 at the time. We had learned about Otakon in Baltimore, MD and looked online and saw everyone in costumes, so we thought it was required! That very first year, I cosplayed Iruka from Naruto and while at the time I thought it was needed to go to a con, I soon fell in love with the art form. I grew up in the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) with my dad, which was medieval reenactment, and got interested in a lot of the things shown there. So to me, cosplay was building on that interest with something I loved, which was anime. I learned that you could cosplay literally anything, so while I love anime, I got drawn more and more to video games because of their complex outfits. When I DO make something from anime, I put my own spin on things to make a 2D animation look amazing in 3D

Since then, my cosplay career has blossomed. I've won multiple well-deserved awards in Master's level, I've judged many cosplay competitions with the idea of being 100% positive, I've started to work for a group within the state that promotes an inclusive environment, and I've made so many friends in the community that further cements that EVERYONE can cosplay, no matter what.

I'm hosting an Otome game panel with a good friend at our upcoming convention in Denver. ♥️ We'll be playing it in the style of Twitch plays Pokemon (the whole room gets to vote on the dialogue options) and we'll see how unhinged it gets. Nan Desu Kan 25 Approaches

25 years in the Tivoli Student Union at Auraria Campus a small convention was held. It celebrated Japanese anime, art, comics, music, and culture. Fast forward to 2022 and NAN DESU KAN is set to be held in, what can arguably be the largest hotel in the Denver Metro area, the Gaylord of the Rockies during Labor Day Weekend between September 2nd - September 4th.

GUESTS

NDK always has great guests that visit the hotel every year, and this year is no different. A few of the wonder people that will be visiting for the 25th anniversary include:

Major Attaway whom is not only a voice actor for several properties such as Dragon Ball Z Kai, One Piece, High School DxD and Borderlands but he is also a Broadway actor and singer playing the role of “The ever impressive, the long contained, often imitated, but never duplicated … Genie of the lamp!" in Disney’s Aladdin in 2017.

Jessica Cavanah is a woman of many hats. She has been a voice actor properties such as My Hero Academia, Steins;Gate and One Piece. She has used her great writing abilities to adapt shows such as Recovery of an MMO Junky, Sakura Quest, and Kageki Shoujo for English-speaking audiences. That same writing hat has also been used for off-Broadway performance!

Jim Foronda is another voice actor. He is another Borderlands and My Hero Academia actor and has also done ad writing in addition to voice work.

Johnny Yong Bosch also known as the Black Ranger is appearing this year as well. Johnny can be heard as Vash the Stamped from Trigun, Kanda in Akira, Sasori in Naruto and Artemis in Sailor Moon along with many more then can be listed. IMDB shows Akira was his first role in 1988 and it is almost non-stop from there.

Dr. Alyssa Freedman is returning to NDK. She is always great to listen to and is a professor of Japanese literature at the University of Oregon. If memory serves she has even done classes on emoji due to their importance in Japanese culture!

NDK CHARITY AUCTION

Every year NDK and RMAA (the non-profit organization that produces NDK) helps to raise funds for charities. This is done with events such as the NDK Charity Auction. For NDK 2022 the charity the Maria Droste Counseling Center. “A Denver-based nonprofit mental health service organization comprised of mental health professionals, learners, and volunteers, The Maria Droste Counseling Center provides accessible, high-quality, community-centered mental health counseling.” Be sure to check out the auction, get some amazing and usually unique items, and help a good cause.

Kicking the weekend off at NDK!! So far I've only seen one other Fairy Tail cosplayer 😭😭 hope everyone that's going is having a good time!

Hello everyone!!! I’m at NDK (man Desu Kan) today and tomorrow! I will be wearing this jacket and giving out stickers! Hope to see some of you there!

This illustration is based off of someone I met at NDK this year. A girl cosplaying a female Colonel Mustang from Full Metal Alchemist. It was very well done and she was very cute. I wanted to say more, to make an attempt at an actual conversation, to ask for a picture, maybe even give her my number if the mood called for it. But I did none of those things, and I regret it. Instead I did this illustration.

I do horror, I revel in the monstrous and the grotesque. I never feel quite as good at just regular people, especially in my style, and extra especially when it's supposed to be in an appealing light. I'm still trying to figure out parts of myself and my style. There are still a few things that bother me, but I tried my best, and I tried to learn from it.
