NatsuGray Week (Gratsu Week) 2023 Day 7: Journey
Natsu and Gray (with Happy tagging along for obvious reasons as Natsu's closest companion) are doing a quest which also serves as the journey (or the adventure). With the possible outcomes:
The quest ends well for both boys and they spend their time together in the inn before trekking back to the guild.
The quest ends too well so that both boys start bickering which also escalates to big fight. With destroyed town (since they are disaster boys when they are left on their own devices, after all...).

Natray/Gratsu Day 2023
This isn't exactly new, but I reread it recently and rewrote parts of it. Enjoy!

Gray felt it clearly, the moment Natsu finally gave in to the demon nature he'd fought off for so long.
All around him, the temperature rose until it was almost unbearable. And as the air filled with the sound of Natsu’s fury, he knew beyond the shadow of a doubt.
It was too late.
That didn’t stop him from begging, though. To Natsu, to Zeref, hell to anyone who might listen and help him put a stop to the nightmare that was unfolding before his eyes.
But no one did.
All he could do was watch as Natsu transformed into E.N.D.-the etherious demon Zeref had resurrected him to become.
The one his father had tasked him with destroying.
His heart ached at the sight of his love standing before him, tears streaming down his cheeks unabashedly as he mouthed a desperate apology. One Gray knew was also a goodbye..
I’m so sorry. I love you.
Logically, Gray knew it would only be a matter of time before it happened. The creatures Zeref sent after them only got stronger with each encounter. But they were strong too, and Gray had let himself believe that together they’d be able to defeat any enemy that crossed their path.
It had been a fantasy, one with an expiration date at that, but he didn’t care because the alternative wasn’t something he’d ever wanted to consider. Especially given what he’d promised in a moment of weakness.
He could still hear the quiver in Natsu’s voice when he’d asked him to do the impossible -
When it happens… I want you to be the one to kill me.
And God help him, he’d agreed to do just that. But he couldn’t. How could Natsu ever expect him to?
He might as well have just asked him to tear his own heart out. He should have asked Erza or Lucy, or maybe Gajeel–
Why was he even wasting his time thinking about this now?!!! There had to be something he could do. Anything! They could go back to Magnolia. He could use his magic to keep E.N.D. under control until they could get his book away from Zeref. Then he could figure out a way to get Natsu back or…
“Gray… it’s time.”
He flinched at the words, and though he didn’t want to look up, Gray couldn’t ignore that damn quiver.
E.N.D. appeared calm, despite the flames that now flared all around him.
And that irked him even more. How dare he look like that when Gray’s entire world was falling apart? But just as he was about to give E.N.D./Natsu a piece of his mind, a voice spoke up in the back of his mind, startling him out of his anger.
Perhapsss there’sss another way….
The voice sounded familiar, although he couldn’t remember ever hearing it before.
“Who are you?”
I am you, jussst asss you are me…
Gray had no clue what that meant, but as he felt the inky tendrils of his Devil Slayer magic creep steadily up his body, he understood. His magic was reaching out to him, and that’s when he remembered.
He had heard it before, right after his father had first transferred his magic over to him. This voice had taught him how to use it, but it had remained dormant ever since.
And desperate for any solution that didn’t include killing Natsu, he put all of his faith into the one thing that had never let him down. He didn’t waver once, not even when the demon told him he’d have to give up his humanity.
Who needed it, anyway?
Gray closed his eyes, following the voice’s instructions and assurances as they merged their souls together into a new creature. One that could walk alongside E.N.D. forever.
When it was all over, he blinked at the brightness of the burning landscape with eyes that were not wholly his. It was a little overwhelming at first. He felt like he was seeing a world remade in colors he had never seen before. He immediately turned his head, wanting to see how E.N.D. would look to him now.
What he saw didn't disappoint him.
E.N.D. was beautiful. But what was even more enticing to Gray was that he saw Natsu's soul contained within. Although, to be fair, it looked murderous at the moment. Gray couldn’t help but laugh at his expression.
“What did you do?!” Natsu roared, gawking at Gray’s new appearance.
“Anything I had to, to ssstay by your ssside,” Gray replied, holding out his hand for him to take, and after a minute spent staring at him in dismay, E.N.D. grabbed it roughly.
They walked together, putting their old lives behind them and forging a new future for themselves. One where they could love each other as they always had, as far away from the world of man as they could manage.

Maybe it’s a bit early to say with just only 2 chapters out but... I’m a big sucker for “arranged marriage” and “royalty AU” tropes - and even more when it’s with Natsu and Gray - so this fic, is right up my alley!
It reads quite well, is quite enjoyable and the setting has me so curious. I can’t wait for Natsu and Gray to meet and there’s going to be angst (the author warns) but I do hope there will be a happy ending out there.

Random Gratsu hc’s
Job dates. Training dates. they’ve probably had like 3 real dates not counting anniversaries
Grays childhood nickname for Natsu was Ashes, it was one of the first he called him and probs the only one that wasn’t driven as an insult.
he stopped calling him that at some point in their early teens, but he accidentally let it slip post forming the team and Natsu wouldnt respond to anything else from him for like a week straight
Gray has chronic pain, and he will drape himself over Natsu when it gets bad bc hes a human heating pad. Natsu takes it in stride even if hes having a conversation with someone
If Natsu gets too flustered (or turned on, or angry) his temperature will rise a lot, and since Gray runs cold their first kiss (and plenty after) created light steam
its happened during most of their firsts as a couple and it always makes Gray laugh which in turn causes Natsu even more embarrassment which creates more steam
its a vicious cycle
Gray fell first, Natsu fell harder
Gray isnt bad at flirting per se, hes just awkward ans gets too embarrassed with it. He prefers to ‘flirt’ with actions (looking him up and down, gifts, being touchy)
Natsu unintentionally flirts, hes not the type to hold back and says what he means. So he ends up giving the most genuine, love struck compliments known to man and he doesn’t even realize.
However, his deep hidden knowledge of actual flirting comes out when they’re fighting
Even though they argue constantly they have a rule against going to bed angry that they follow religiously, and if that means they don’t sleep for days on end sometimes thats nobody’s business but theirs.
When they started dating the original plan was to wait to tell people, but Natsu, who was genuinely vibrating with excitement and a need to tell everyone, broke within the first week
(what he doesnt know is Gray actually broke first, telling Cana the day of the first date (He needed moral support and shes had to listen to him moon over him for years! she deserved to know!))
Not that it really mattered, half the guild thought they were dating already
There was no formal announcement, they just started making out in the guild and that was that
ironically, the guildmates closest to them were the ones that had no clue and were surprised. And the ones that werent that close went on abt how ‘it was so obvious’ and ‘how could you not know?’
Once the shock and awe died down, ppl started panicking trying to figure out who to give the shovel talk to
baseline; it was very eventful
Before they started dating every now and then you could catch Gray looking in pure awe at Natsu when hes beating the shit out of someone
He doesnt even try to hide it now, even if hes the one Natsus fighting
Gray, staring at Natsu: hes so hot
Lucy, concerned: ??? Hes about to kill that guy!!
Gray, sighing dreamily: i know
They dont actually know how they started dating. one minute they were fighting and the next they were making out, two days later they were on a date in a restaurant way too fancy for them. and that was that
Gray has used Natsu as a human lighter so many times over the years its likely he doesnt even carry one any more
Natsu will eat the flame if Gray tries to use one till he asks him
