When we need to see a miracle in life, when we need someone to fight for us, He is our Mighty God.

When we forget who we belong to, when we need to be reminded that we're greatly loved and cared for, He is our Everlasting Father who loves to give good gifts to His children.

When we feel anxious and worried, when we need a reminder that our future is secure no matter what swirls around us, He is our Prince of Peace.

His very presence in our lives gives us such great reason to celebrate. For amidst the chaos and busyness of the season, in both the joys and struggles of daily life, or the uncertainties that tomorrow holds, we can find rest and peace in Him, in His Presence. For He is Immanuel…God with us. Always with us.

In the featured 16th-century Nativity icon, everything looks typical for the standard nativity scene. The only distinctive feature that you might have noticed is the blue background, which is rarely seen in Russian iconography. It is known that the work belongs to the Moscow school of icon painting, which inherited some of the features intrinsic to Andrei Rublev’s style. However, it doesn’t explain the choice of deep blue, usually described as a mystical and noble color.

Luke 2:6-7 So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

Jesus the King of kings and Lord of lords was not born in a mansion. He was born in a stable because there was no room for Him in the inn. He didn't come here to be treated like a king, but came to serve. (Luke 22:27) He didn't come here to live in a mansion or live a life of ease. He came to save the lost—which is all mankind.

So, as we celebrate Christmas, let us celebrate the Lord and thank Him for the sacrifice He made in leaving His throne in glory, to come as an ordinary man like you and me, and save us from our sins.
