Exposed (Cobra Kai story): Chapter 7
Sam was sitting on her bed, cell phone in hand, browsing Instagram. She frowned when she saw an ad for Cobra Kai.
Carmen was standing in front of her mailbox. She began sorting through her mail. A Cobra Kai brochure was nestled among the letters. She frowned.
There was a promotional booth outside of the mall. Some of the Cobra Kai students were handing out brochures, thermoses, brownies, and t-shirts.
Mitch started eating a brownie. He spat it out when he noticed that Bert, Chris, and Nathaniel were looking at him in disapproval.
“What?” Mitch asked.
Chris slapped the back of Mitch’s head.
A male Cobra Kai student offered Anthony a t-shirt. He declined the offer. Kenny, Kyler, and some other male Cobra Kai students grabbed him, dragged him to a bathroom, and dunked his head into a filthy toilet.
In a makeshift war room at LaRusso Auto, Daniel, Amanda, Johnny, and Chozen were looking at a map of the Valley. Flags had been placed on the locations of Cobra Kai’s new dojos.
Daniel placed a flag on the map. “Another location just opened in Toluca Lake. Silver's dividing and conquering.”
“All we’ve got to do is get our hands dirty. Pull some skeletons out of his closet. Know any of his old friends?” Johnny asked.
Daniel sighed. “We've gone down that road. It…Um…Didn't go well.”
“Well, we have to do something. He has the damn Valley in a stranglehold!” Johnny yelled.
“Silver thinking beyond Valley.” Chozen said.
“Whatever he has up his sleeve, he's keeping it very quiet.” Daniel said.
“Well, there is someone who may know. Someone who knows Silver best.” Amanda said.
“You're not talking about who I think you’re talking about, are you?” Daniel asked.
“Don't even say it.” Johnny told Amanda.
“To beat a monster, maybe we need a monster.” Amanda said.
“I can be monster,” Chozen said toughly.
“Oh, I bet you'd make a great monster. But in this case, only one monster fits the bill.” Amanda said.
“No. Kreese is locked up. Hopefully, in a deep dark hole. I have no interest in crawling into it.” Johnny said.
“Listen, we wouldn't be having this conversation if we weren't desperate. Kreese might be our best weapon if he's pointed in the right direction.” Amanda said.
The door opened, and a man looked at Daniel, Amanda, Johnny, and Chozen in annoyance.
Daniel and Amanda looked embarrassed.
"Do any of you work here?” The man asked.
The man spoke sarcastically. “I'd like to buy a car if it's not too inconvenient for you.”
Johnny pointed at Daniel and Amanda. "These guys work here."
Daniel looked at Amanda.
"Uh, yeah. You want to…" Daniel trailed off.
"Yep." Amanda said.
"Thank you, honey." Daniel said.
Amanda walked out of the room.
At the Miyagi-Do dojo, the Miyagi-Do students and the Eagle Fang students were warming up.
Anthony spoke to Sam. “I don’t know about this. Kenny has been training a lot longer than me. I don't think I can catch up.”
"I know you're still upset about what happened at the mall." Sam said.
Anthony looked embarrassed. “Kids are calling me shithead."
"We're all dealing with Cobra Kai. You're not alone." Sam said.
Miguel, Sarah, Eli, and Demetri were a few feet away from Sam and Anthony.
Miguel’s eyes were on Sam.
Eli smiled. “So, you and Sam back in the dojo. Game on, right?”
"Yeah, game on for karate. That's it." Miguel said.
"Oh, come on. I see you staring at her." Eli said.
"I thought you guys decided to keep things platonic." Demetri said.
Eli smirked. “She did. He didn't.”
Demetri wrapped his arm around Miguel’s shoulder.
"Well, you know what they say. You put a box of matches near some fireworks, soon enough…" Demetri paused.
Demetri imitated an explosion. "Sparks will fly."
Miguel chuckled dryly. “Is that what they say?"
Robby arrived at the dojo.
"Something tells me it's about to be the Fourth of July," Demetri muttered.
Eli spoke angrily. “Can't believe that piece of shit is on our team.”
“All right. Relax. Okay? He wants exactly what we want. It’s going to be okay.” Miguel said.
Chozen was standing on the sparring deck.
Chozen was wearing a long-sleeved dark grey gi.
Chozen whistled.
"Line up!" Chozen yelled.
The students formed a line.
“Where are my dad and Mr. LaRusso?” Sarah asked.
Sarah was wearing green high-top Adidas sneakers with black laces, a green t-shirt, and black polyester shorts. The shorts stopped 2 inches above her knees. They had a black drawstring. The drawstring was tied into a bow. Her naturally straight blonde hair was tied up in a high ponytail. She had on a light amount of black eyeliner, a light amount of black mascara, and soft brown eyeshadow. Her lip balm was a pretty peach colour.
“Not here.” Chozen said.
Chozen sized up the students. “Today, you train with me.”
Chozen yelled something in Japanese.
Because they didn’t speak Japanese, the students looked at Chozen in confusion.
Chozen spoke to the students in English. “Attention.”
The students stood with their hands by their sides.
Chozen yelled something in Japanese.
The students looked at Chozen in confusion.
Chozen spoke to the students in English. “Bow.”
The students bowed.
"Cobra Kai gaining ground. We must prepare. Come." Chozen led the students to a table with weapons on it.
Mitch looked at Chris. "Oh, this is going to be badass. Check out that throwing knife."
“Now, we learn about Yanbaru kuina." Chozen told the students.
"What is that? Some top-secret karate move? Like a throat rip?” Chris asked.
Chris slid his index finger across his throat and gagged.
“No. It is bird. In English, it is called Okinawa rail. Endangered. Cannot fly." Chozen said.
“Hence, endangered.” Demetri said.
Chozen put a carton of eggs on the table.
“So, these are the real eggs?” Miguel asked.
“No. Trader Joe's. $3.29. Take egg.” Chozen told the students.
Each student grabbed an egg.
“Yanbaru kuina must protect egg from Kume Shima habu. Poison snake. You must do same.” Chozen told the students.
Chozen put an hourglass on the table.
Chozen flipped the hourglass.
“Begin your preparation.” Chozen told the students.
"What are we protecting them from?" Robby asked.
"From me." Chozen pulled out a pair of sai.
Chozen aimed the pair of sai at the students. They took a step back and looked at him nervously.
Chozen yelled something in Japanese. It translated to “Go.”
The students looked at Chozen in confusion.
“Go, go!” Chozen yelled, gesturing to the backyard with the pair of sai.
The students dispersed.
“What has gotten hold of him?” A boy asked another boy.
At Cobra Kai’s flagship dojo, a training session was underway.
Devon was breathing heavily and looking at Tory.
“They're really pushing us hard lately. Seems like we're getting ready to fight, but who are we fighting?” Devon asked.
Tory didn’t say anything.
Devon sighed. “Still don't want me here, huh? Why are you so dead set on freezing me out?”
“This place is dangerous. You shouldn't be here.” Tory said.
“Are you that scared of a little competition? Can't handle the idea of someone coming after the Queen Cobra's crown?” Devon asked.
Tory didn’t say anything.
Devon scoffed.
Elsewhere, Kenny was rapidly punching the air.
Kyler looked at Kenny in disapproval. "Hey, slow down, man. You're making us all look bad. Come on."
"Oh. Sorry." Kenny slowed down.
“There you go. Hey, just remember, I'm number one around here. You play your cards right, you'll be deuces.” Kyler patted the back of Kenny’s head.
Terry and Kim observed the students via video feed.
“The only thing better than a full dojo is a whole valley of full dojos.” Terry said.
“The quantity means little. For where we go next, we need leaders.” Kim responded.
“Miss Nichols is a clear leader. Wouldn't you agree?” Terry asked.
“She is your best student. But as a leader, there is room for improvement. And she is only one piece of the puzzle. We must discover who else can rise to the occasion.” Kim told Terry.
“And how do you suggest we do that?” Terry asked.
“Give them some real competition. The leaders will rise or they will crumble.” Kim said.
“Oh, I like that.” Terry said.
Terry smiled evilly. “Yeah.”
Johnny and Daniel arrived at the prison and walked into the visitation room.
Johnny sighed. “Can’t believe we're doing this.”
“You think I want to be here? But Amanda's right. If anyone knows what Silver's up to, it's Kreese.” Daniel said.
Johnny and Daniel sat down.
“Hopefully, this place has taken him down a few pegs. Maybe he's ready to talk.” Johnny said.
“I’m sure he has had a rude awakening. An old man in a place like this…” Daniel paused. “I almost feel sorry for him.”
“I don't.” Johnny said.
“I said almost.” Daniel responded.
Kreese entered the room. One of the other inmates offered to get him something from the vending machine.
“Scram.” Kreese told the other inmate.
The other inmate walked away.
Kreese sat across from Johnny and Daniel.
“What the hell is he doing here?” Kreese asked Johnny.
Johnny didn’t say anything.
“You should be thanking me for getting you out of your cell.” Daniel told Kreese.
Kreese glared at Daniel.
Kreese turned to Johnny. “I don’t want to talk to him. I want to talk to you.”
“Yeah, well, I don’t really want to talk to you.” Johnny said.
Johnny looked at Daniel. “I told you this was a dumb idea.”
“Look, I know there's a lot of bad blood here, but the fact is, we have a common enemy.” Daniel said. “Silver's planning something, and we need to figure out what it is.”
“He doesn't know jack shit. He has been caged up in here the whole time.” Johnny said.
Kreese glared at Johnny and Daniel. “I know exactly what Terry's planning. But if you think I'm going to help you, then you two don't know jack shit.”
At the Miyagi-Do dojo, Chozen looked around the backyard as the hourglass dwindled. Some of the students were sitting behind bushes.
“I see many little birds spread in wind!” Chozen taunted.
Chozen pulled out a throwing knife.
Chozen spoke ominously. “Many dead eggs.”
Mitch was sitting with his back against a tree. His egg was under him.
Chris approached Mitch.
“What are you doing?” Chris asked.
“This is what birds do to protect eggs. It's nature's rule, not mine.” Mitch said.
Chris looked up at one of the tree’s branches. “You can stay low. I'm going high.”
Anthony watched as Sam put her egg in her backpack.
“Put it behind your back. It will leave your hands free to defend.” Sam said.
“But I don't know how to use my hands yet.” Anthony said.
“Dad didn't teach you wax on, wax off?” Sam asked.
Anthony spoke sheepishly. “Actually, I paid a guy to wash the cars.”
Sam looked at Anthony in disapproval.
“It-It doesn't matter. I'm starting from square zero.” Anthony said.
“Well, think of it this way. You used your mind to outwit the obstacle.” Sam said.
Robby walked up to Sam and Anthony.
Robby leaned against a tree.
“That's what Miyagi-Do's about.” Robby said.
Sam smiled at Robby. “Hey.”
Robby smiled back. “Hey.”
“Déjà vu having you back here.” Sam said.
“I like what you've done with the place. How many times did your dad make you sand that deck?” Robby asked.
“Zero, actually, ‘cause your dad brought a power sander.” Sam said.
Robby laughed. “Ah. Sounds like him.”
Sam laughed.
Miguel was sitting next to Sarah, Eli, and Demetri.
“Look at him trying to move in on her. If you want, I'll kick his ass.” Eli said.
“No, you don't need to do that. Robby and I are cool now. Besides, I'm pretty sure they're just…Uh…Catching up.” Miguel said.
Chozen whistled.
Miguel, Sarah, Eli, and Demetri stood up.
Demetri showed Miguel, Sarah, and Eli a white box. His egg was inside of it.
“Looks like the Hunger Games have begun. Luckily, I have eggs-ecuted the perfect plan. When I win, everyone will have egg on their face. They'll be shell-shocked. The yolk will...” Demetri trailed off.
“We get it. What's your plan?” Eli asked.
Demetri showed Miguel, Sarah, and Eli the protective covering he made out of his college prep book.
“I'm glad you asked. I have created a protective covering. I made it out of my college prep book for blunt force impact, and I tied the whole thing together with an old spool of dental floss and my left shoelace.” Demetri said.
Demetri placed the box and the protective covering on top of a wooden pole.
“Yep. It's pretty durable.” Demetri said.
Chozen’s throwing knife pierced the box and crushed the egg.
Miguel, Sarah, and Eli ran away.
Chozen approached Demetri.
Demetri looked at the box in bewilderment.
Chozen pulled the throwing knife out of the box. “Bird love to hear himself sing. You sing lonely song. And now you are dead.”
Chozen put the throwing knife away.
Chozen walked away.
Demetri stepped onto the sparring deck.
Terry spoke to the Cobra Kai students. “The world is made of two kinds of people. Leaders and followers. Cobra Kai, like a military unit, needs both to function successfully. So, we're going to divide you up into pairs.”
“The goal of each pair is to score a point against an opponent who outmatches you. Only strong leadership will allow you to prevail.” Kim said.
“Sensei Kim will take the girls. Boys, you'll stay here and spar with Sensei Odell. All right, split up.” Terry told the students.
The students did as they were told.
Terry decided that Kyler and Kenny would be the first ones to face Sensei Odell. Kyler attempted to take charge and directed Kenny to attack, but their efforts failed. A disappointed Terry decided to end the exercise.
Kim decided that Devon and Tory would be the first ones to face her. Because they failed to work as a team, she defeated them.
“Look, if you know what Silver's planning, why not tell us so we can stop him?” Daniel asked Kreese.
“As if you even could. You've already failed, even after I gave you a lead.” Kreese said.
“The newspaper clipping. I should have known it was you. Who helped you get that to my house?” Daniel asked.
“I’ve got my ways.” Kreese said.
Daniel glared at Kreese. “Well, following it led me into a trap. Silver blindsided me.”
Kreese smirked. “Well, that wasn't my plan, but it was a nice consolation prize.”
“Now you know why you can't trust him. We should leave him here where he belongs.” Johnny told Daniel.
“I don't belong here. I'm innocent. I'm here because Terry was tight with the DA and I couldn't afford a real attorney.” Kreese said.
Johnny scoffed. “Oh, please.”
“What if I could help get you out? Silver isn't the only one with resources. I can get a lawyer. Someone who could help get you out, or, at the very least, a reduced sentence.” Daniel said.
“If that's true, then maybe I would tell you what I know. But I want a top guy, not one of your greasy cousins.” Kreese said.
“You're going to help him get out of here?” Johnny asked Daniel.
“Johnny, it's worth the sacrifice. It's the only way.” Daniel said.
“I could call my lawyer right now. Do we have a deal or not?” Daniel asked Kreese.
“Deal.” Kreese said.
Daniel walked away.
Chozen appeared behind Mitch, twirling his pair of sai and snarling.
Mitch looked scared. “Oh, God! Come on, please. No.”
Chozen snarled again and aimed the pair of sai at Mitch.
“Oh, shit!” Mitch yelled.
Mitch rolled out of the way.
Chris fell out of the tree he had climbed up. He landed next to Mitch. His egg broke. The yolk got on his shirt.
Chozen put his pair of sai away.
Chozen walked up to Mitch and grabbed his egg. He threw the egg on the ground, causing it to break.
Chozen looked at Mitch and Chris in disdain. “Birds of feather must flock together.”
Chozen walked away.
Mitch and Chris stepped onto the sparring deck.
“Welcome to the party,” Demetri said wryly.
Nathaniel and Bert were kneeling on the balancing wheel, rolling their eggs back and forth as they looked around the backyard.
Chozen was in the pond. He pushed on the balancing wheel, causing Nathaniel and Bert to fall in the water. Their eggs broke.
Chozen laughed as he swam away.
Nathaniel and Bert stepped onto the sparring deck.
Robby was in the garden. He knelt down and buried his egg. He stood up and rubbed his hands together. He smiled proudly.
Chozen appeared behind Robby. He was holding a shovel. He dug up Robby’s egg. He smashed the egg with the shovel.
Chozen walked away.
Robby frowned as he stepped onto the sparring deck.
Chozen walked to the other side of the backyard. He saw Sarah. She was holding her egg in her right hand. He tried to kick her, but she dodged the kick. He tried to punch her, but she blocked the punch. He swept her legs out from under her, causing her to drop her egg. The egg broke.
Eli was standing next to the yellow car Mr. Miyagi gave Daniel in the 1980’s. He held up his egg and taunted Chozen. “You want my egg, huh? Want a piece of the champ? Come and get it, old man.”
Chozen pulled out a pair of nunchucks.
Eli looked scared. “Oh, no.”
Chozen used one of the nunchucks to knock Eli’s egg out of his hand. The egg flew towards one of Daniel’s other cars. When it hit the windshield, it broke. Anthony was in the front seat. He gasped.
Chozen put the pair of nunchucks away.
Chozen walked towards the car. Anthony rolled down the window.
“I-I give up.” Anthony held out his hand.
Chozen grabbed Anthony’s egg and sighed. He threw the egg on the ground, causing it to break.
Anthony got out of the car.
Sarah, Eli, and Anthony stepped onto the sparring deck.
Robby looked at Eli and asked, “How'd he take you out?”
“Shut up. Don't talk to me.” Eli snapped.
“Look, if this about the mohawk, I'm sorry, but if anyone knows how Cobra Kai can turn somebody into an asshоlе, it's you.” Robby said.
“So, I’m the asshole?” Eli asked angrily.
“Well, let’s see.” Robby held up a finger. “You attacked me and Sam at the mall.” He held up another finger. “You broke Demetri’s arm.” He held up another finger. “And you trashed this entire dojo.”
“Guys, enough!” Demetri yelled. “Enough, all right? You're both ex-assholes now. Great. Can we focus on the issue at hand? There is a madman out there using weapons on us.”
“Who’s even left?” Chris asked.
In the interior dojo, Sam was kneeling next to a table. When she heard footsteps, she raised her fists.
“Wait!” Miguel yelled.
Sam sighed in relief. “Oh, God. It's just you.”
Sam lowered her fists.
Miguel smiled kindly. “Yeah, it’s just me.”
Sam exhaled. “Sorry. Um, I think...I think we're the last two left.”
“Guess so.” Miguel said.
“Where's your egg?” Sam asked.
Miguel pointed at his pocket. “Uh...It's in my pocket.”
Miguel chuckled.
“That doesn't seem like the safest place.” Sam said.
“Yeah.” Miguel said.
Sam and Miguel smiled at each other.
“Uh…So, you're back in karate?” Miguel asked.
“Yeah. I'm just as surprised as you are. I think I just needed to remember what these lessons are really for. I'm finally starting to feel balanced again.” Sam said.
“That's…Uh, that's great. I'm happy for you. I'm not going to lie…At first, it was a little weird…The friends thing, but…You know, we have so many other things going on. There's no need for extra complications. I think us not being together helped Robby and I get along for once…So, thanks.” Miguel said.
Sam smiled warmly. “I'm glad to hear that.”
Chozen appeared. He was holding a bo staff. He knocked Miguel down, breaking the egg he was carrying in his pocket.
Miguel stood up. He sighed as he reached into his pocket and pulled out a handful of egg yolk.
Sam raised her fists. “If you want the last egg, you’re going to have to go through me.”
Chozen reached into his gi and pulled out the egg he had secretly taken from Sam earlier.
“This egg?” Chozen asked.
Sam was shocked. “What?”
Sam turned her head and saw that her backpack was unzipped.
“One bird in hand…” Chozen trailed off.
Chozen crushed Sam’s egg in the palm of his hand, making the yolk drip down his fingers and land on the floor.
“Helpless!” Chozen yelled.
Chozen sighed and shook his head.
Sam looked embarrassed as she watched Chozen leave.
At Cobra Kai’s flagship dojo, Kyler and Kenny were still failing to work as a team. Kenny was fed up. He was about to walk out of the dojo, but Terry told him to come to his office.
“Your father…He's in the army, right? I bet he's a strong leader. Someone you listen to. What happened after he was deployed? Who filled that role?” Terry asked.
“My brother was the leader of the house until...” Kenny trailed off.
“Right, right. The one in juvie. And after he went in, who did you follow? Robby Keene. And now you're following Mr. Park.” Terry said.
“Isn't that the point of the exercise?” Kenny asked.
“I spent a lot of my life listening to others. My father. My captain. My best friend.” Terry said.
“Sensei Kreese?” Kenny asked.
“Yes. But it was only after I listened to my own instincts that I reached my potential. I've seen the best fighters in the Valley. Keene. Moskowitz. Diaz. I believe you have more potential than any of 'em. If you're ready to be a leader.” Terry said.
“Okay. Look, I hear you. But the exercise...” Kenny paused. “You said Kyler was the leader.”
“Did I? Or did you assume that?” Terry asked.
“So, what do you want me to do?” Kenny asked.
“I want you to stop asking me or anyone else that question.” Terry said.
At the prison, Johnny and Kreese were waiting for Daniel to return. An awkward silence filled the air.
In an attempt to break the ice, Kreese asked, “You want some Jell-O?”
“I don't want anything from you.” Johnny snapped.
“Do you really want to end Cobra Kai, Johnny? Cobra Kai is not the problem. It's Silver.” Kreese said.
“You're just as bad.” Johnny responded.
“Everything I did was for you. LaRusso and Miyagi…They took away our chance in 84. Your chance. But there's still a way you can get Cobra Kai back. Carry on the legacy.” Kreese said.
“You mean your legacy. Don't try to sell me some fairytale. You want to know why I'm in this fight? So I can erase everything you did. Every mark you left. Every memory of you.” Johnny responded.
Kreese frowned.
Daniel returned. He was holding a piece of paper. “I spoke to my lawyer. He's willing to help you out. Here's his number.”
Kreese reached for the piece of paper. Daniel pulled it away from him.
“First, you’ve got to hold up your end of the deal. Tell us what Silver's up to.” Daniel told Kreese.
Kreese sighed. “Okay.”
At the Miyagi-Do dojo, Chozen cooked an egg in a frying pan and lectured the students for failing the exercise. “You are not good Yanbaru kuina. Snakes will take you down one by one. I have tried to tell you what you must do, but you do not listen. You must learn to adapt, or soon, you will be extinct.”
“Take new eggs. Try again." Chozen ordered.
Sam grabbed the carton of eggs and walked towards the other students, handing an egg to each of them.
“Sensei Toguchi's real cryptic, like Sensei LaRusso, but aggressive like Sensei Lawrence.” Demetri said.
"It's like the hardest part of both styles." Chris said.
"Can't wait to get our asses kicked again,” Mitch muttered.
The students, with the exception of Anthony, were about to leave.
"G-Guys…Uh, wait. He said that the snakes will take us down one by one, right? Just like he took us down one by one. But…But what if we weren't a bunch of ones? Like, what if we were…” Anthony trailed off.
"Together?” Sam asked.
"Yeah, exactly. Like…Um, a raiding party in Dungeon Lords.” Anthony said.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah! Even if you're a level 85, you can't mount an attack on the grand realm alone.” Demetri said.
“You need a team. Everybody has a special role." Eli said.
"The only way we win is if we work together. As one." Anthony said.
Anthony put all of the eggs in a basket. He and his fellow students gathered around the basket, forming a circle.
"So, we’re sure we want to put all our eggs in one basket? You're specifically not supposed to do that." Demetri said.
“This is going to work." Anthony said.
Chozen whistled.
Mitch looked scared. “Oh, no. Oh, no. Oh, God.”
"Get it together, Penis Breath." Eli told Mitch.
“Has anyone seen him yet?” Sarah asked.
Chozen started running towards the students. He was holding a bo staff.
“Oh, shit,” Miguel muttered.
Chozen got closer to the students.
“Ready!” Miguel yelled.
Chozen attacked the students. They utilized teamwork to hold him off.
Chozen bowed. “Snake concede.”
“Dude, it worked!” Eli yelled.
Anthony’s fellow students cheered, then they pulled him into a hug.
“This is what we have that Cobra Kai does not. Their movement mile wide, but only inch deep. Our movement inch wide, but mile deep. Now that you have learned to work together, I will teach you how to master your defense.” Chozen said.
Chozen spoke to the students in Japanese. The English translation was “Attention.”
Anthony and his fellow students stood with their hands by their sides.
Chozen spoke to the students in Japanese. The English translation was “Bow.”
Anthony and his fellow students bowed.
At Cobra Kai’s flagship dojo, after defeating yet another pair of female students, Kim beckoned for more challengers. Devon convinced Tory to try again. Tory told Devon that she must listen to her. They squared off with Kim. Tory prevented Kim from striking a fallen Devon instead of attacking Kim from behind. This led to Kim defeating Tory. Kim criticized Tory for not sacrificing her "pawn" to gain the victory. Devon said, “You could have let her get me.” Tory said, “I wouldn’t be a very good leader if I did.”
Kyler and Kenny squared off with Sensei Odell. Kenny refused to follow Kyler's directions. A fight broke out between them. When Sensei Odell put an end to the fight, Kenny threw Kyler at Sensei Odell’s feet and used him as a springboard to land a flying kick on Sensei Odell, winning the challenge. Terry looked at Kenny in approval.
At the prison, Kreese started talking about Terry. “I remember when Terry Silver was a skinny little kid.”
Kreese smirked at Johnny. “Loaded with fear. Sort of like the way you were.”
Johnny did not look happy. Daniel glanced at him, wondering if he was going to say something. He stayed quiet.
Kreese looked at Johnny and Daniel. “Cobra Kai has given him a strength he didn't even know he had. He became obsessed.”
Johnny and Daniel frowned.
“He paid for a trip for us to go back East. To where the Way of the Fist first started. So we could learn from the source himself. Master Kim Sun-Yung.” Kreese said.
Flashback
Terry and Kreese were training outside. Kim Sun-Yung was supervising. Kim Da-Eun was hiding behind some vases and watching everything unfold.
Kreese was sitting in the forest. He was wearing army pants and a red t-shirt.
Terry approached Kreese.
Terry was wearing a suit and an ascot.
Kreese laughed. “Nice ascot. I guess business really is booming, huh?”
Terry smiled. “I wanted to talk to you about that.”
“Well, if you're offering me a board seat, I'll pass. My focus is on the dojo.” Kreese said.
Terry sat next to Kreese. “I know. That's why I bought it for you.”
Kreese was flabbergasted. “Terry, I...Thank you. I'll still pay rent. I-I insist.”
“Don't thank me. You deserve it. Cobra Kai is the best dojo in the Valley, but you can do better than the Valley. Remember the first time you told me about the All-Valley?” Terry asked.
Kreese nodded.
“I'm about to do you one better.” Terry said.
Terry reached into his suit and pulled out a magazine. He handed the magazine to Kreese.
“It's called the Sekai Taikai. The top karate tournament in the world. Barely anyone back in the States has heard of it. But with the resources I have now, we could make this the Super Bowl of karate. If we win, Cobra Kai will be everywhere. Our way will be the way.” Terry said.
Kreese chuckled. “I love that you're thinking big, Terry. I really do. But I have to say no.”
Kreese gave the magazine back to Terry.
Terry looked disappointed. “But Johnny...”
“We aren't ready. Maybe one day, we will be. Right now, I need to focus on my students. In fact, there's this…Uh…” Kreese paused.
Kreese chuckled. “There's this new kid I’ve got a feeling about, Terry. I think he could be our best ever. He even has the same name as me.”
Terry threw the magazine on the ground. “I'll follow your lead, Johnny.”
Terry stood up. “But if you change your mind or need help, I'll be here for you.”
Kreese stood up and smiled at Terry. They shook hands before leaving the forest.
End of flashback
“Silver listened to me back then, so we didn't expand.” Kreese said.
Kreese looked at Johnny. “I wanted to focus on you.”
“Don't make this about me.” Johnny snapped.
“Hold on. What are you saying? Silver's going to enter another tournament?” Daniel asked Kreese.
“Not just another tournament. The biggest tournament in the world. And if he wins...” Kreese trailed off.
Daniel spoke somberly. “Cobra Kai goes global.”
Johnny and Daniel exchanged a worried look.
Kreese spoke sinisterly. “Silver has taken the Valley. Now he's putting together the pieces to take everything else. You may have found the will to fight, but you're outmatched and outnumbered. Silver is on the verge of getting what he has always wanted.”
Kreese gestured to the piece of paper Daniel was holding. “Well, I think I've held up my end of the deal. The lawyer's number?”
Daniel slid the piece of paper over to Kreese.
Kreese opened the piece of paper.
On the piece of paper, Daniel had written “No mercy, motherfucker!”
Kreese glared at Daniel, then he glared at Johnny.
Johnny looked amused.
“You actually think you're going to be able to take him down without me? He's going to make mincemeat out of you!” Kreese yelled.
Johnny and Daniel got out of their seats.
“We'll see about that,” Daniel said toughly.
Johnny glared at Kreese. “Enjoy rotting in your cell.”
Johnny and Daniel walked away.
