i really like outsider POV, but the thing is, it fundamentally works better when whatever is going on with the characters in question is so fucking weird that no reasonable outsider could ever discern it
like, the ideal outsider POV should have at least some element of 'what the fuck is wrong with these people'.

when you have this amazing story in your head and you see it and know it to be beautiful so you try to write it and it comes out just, wrong. Yeah.

I call upon the fan fic writing gods to bless you with the perseverance to finish one of your unfinished drafts.
May your fingers dance along the letters upon your device with ease, may the devil of distraction stay far from you, and may your work not need much editing.
I pass this blessing upon every fan fic writer out there.

Just thought of a new ask game!! (Of course if someone has already thought of this feel free to tell me because I did not mean to steal your idea. 🫣)
Send me + an OC and I’ll tell you what their theme song (fight song/song that would play over their intro/whatever) would be!!
Gonna tag a couple of the OC besties in case they’re interested: @luucypevensie, @dancingsunflowers-ocs, @oneirataxia-girl, @xoteajays, @ginger-grimm, @endless-oc-creations.

Do other writers ever get this like, hyper-specific dialogue exchange drop into their brains and you know exactly where these character are standing and what they’re doing and how they’re saying these words but that’s all you get. You don’t have much other context and this specific moment that exists only at this time in your headspace??

Writing a fic when you're uninspired:
*writes half a sentence* *checks tumblr; no updates* *checks discord; all servers; no updates* *goes back to doc* *re-reads last three sentences* *removes last half sentence written* Hmm I want some tea ... *makes tea* *checks tumblr again; one new post* *checks discord; all servers; no updates* *checks four latest opened tabs* *remembers an old fandom you haven't thought of in years; goes to AO3 to see if there are any good fics for it* *opens three new fic tabs* *remembers that you're supposed to be writing* *writes a sentence* I'm kinda hungry ... *checks cupboards and fridge for snacks* *remembers that it's ten pm and you shouldn't snack at this hour* *remembers that you made tea; it is now cold* *drinks cold tea* *re-reads last three sentences* *checks tumblr; no updates* *checks discord; all servers; no updates* *in desperation, checks twitter; it is a cesspool of evil so you check tumblr again; one update* *reblog* Hmm, I have too many tabs open ... *opens a random tab; it is a 70K fic with 1K worth of tags that you last visited three months ago* *reads fic* Four hours later: ... I should go to bed. *closes doc* Total words written: 44

Not done one of these in a while, so here's an extract from my Moonfall fic - this time from the 2011 section (specifically, the day of the Endeavour disaster).
When Devon was five – nearly six – years old, she’d wanted to be an astronaut. She’d also wanted to be a cake-maker, a scientist, an architect and an artist, because like most children she’d bounced around from interest to interest at the drop of a hat and at this point in time had decided she’d do all these jobs and be the very very best but her space obsession? Had been the most intense. For months she’d devoured every space book she could find, learning about the planets and the stars, reading about the moon landings and how people hoped to go to Mars and it had all sounded amazing, to her. What could be better than going out there into space? And the Space Shuttle had been the most exciting thing of all – a reusable spacecraft! Space travel being made more accessible! Sure, there hadn’t been many missions yet but wasn’t it great? And Devon had dreamed and dreamed that one day she’d be an astronaut on a Space Shuttle and make all sorts of fascinating discoveries – she’d be the best astronaut ever. And when she found out the next launch was going to be televised, she’d begged her parents to let her watch it because everyone else was going to be watching it – a live event, all the way over in America, and Devon had been so, so excited. ...It had ended up being not just the first, but the last shuttle launch she ever watched.
(Once again I am putting my character through it.)

For talk shop Tuesday, your least favorite character to write and why?
Honestly first character that comes to mind is Terry Silver - I've never actually written anything from his POV but I also don't intend to because even just writing other characters interacting with him gives me the creeps. Like he skeeves me out on screen AND on the page and I only really write him in if I really have to, mainly when I'm writing a version of 4x05 because that confrontation has to happen, or for drama, like him almost killing poor Mike in make your choice now (for tomorrow may be far too late). No way am I going to go into that man's head - I'm leaving that for other people, thank you very much.
In terms of characters I've written POV fics for, though, definitely Hawk during will i ever be the same (am i strong enough to change?) because he's such a complex character that I wanted to get it right and that was...extremely nerve-wracking and the main reason why I put off writing it for so long because I didn't want to reduce him to any stereotypes. I was rewriting his redemption arc and I wanted it to feel real, and my main thought as I was going along was 'am I doing this right? Is this a good story? Will people even like it?' and it wasn't until getting comments and kudos that I kind of settled, and I am proud of the fic, but I'm not sure I'll be writing Hawk a great deal more (though never say never).
