Character introduction: Natalie Goldstone/Cure Trainer
Tumblr media
~Basic info~
Name: Natalie Goldstone
Cure Name: Cure Trainer
Age: 12-13
Birthday: November 18
Hair color: Hazel (Natalie) Yellow (Trainer)
Eye color: Yellow
Natalie Goldstone is one of the six main Cures in Nintendo Precure!. She is a first-year (7th grade) student at Special Talents Academy. Natalie’s alter ego is Cure Trainer.
Tumblr media
Natalie is a very energetic young girl whose energy is sometimes hard to contain. She can be very loud and can often scream when she’s excited, which she gets in trouble for a lot at school. She can easily make friends due to her outgoing personality, being the ball of energy in every room.
Tumblr media
Natalie is obsessed with everything “cool”. She strides to be the coolest she can ever be, which is very intriguing to see… She is also very caring, especially to animals, which is why she helps out at the local animal shelter.
~Outfits/Appearances~
Tumblr media
(Left to right) Basic outfit, Winter Uniform, Summer Uniform, Summer Outfit, Winter Outfit, Pokémon Universe Outfit, Cure Form
Natalie’s theme color is yellow… but she loves to balance it out with sleek blacks and hints of reddish tones.
~Favorite Games~
Tumblr media
Natalie’s goal in Pokémon is to catch them all. Not for battle though, but to train them to be the best they can be! She enjoys how the newer games have modes where you can interact with your Pokémon. It’s her favorite part to make sure all her little fellas are well taken care of and loved, just like real animals. She enjoys other games that also have features where you can care for animals, but they often tend to not keep her engaged enough for the long run.
~Power and abilities~
Tumblr media
As Trainer, she acts just like a Pokémon trainer and sends her (currently) only Pokémon, her trusty Pilachu. Her purifying attack is her Pikachu using the move “Volt Tackle” on monsters… shockingly it’s super effective.
Tumblr media
~Voice Claims~
Here are Natalie’s voice claims~
For JP, her voice claim is Misora Kano (CV: Ayana Taketatsu) from Revue Starlight Re LIVE. I really like this voice for her because it’s easygoing, like her, and can retain energy that is well needed for Natalie’s overall character.
For EN, her voice claim is Mina Ashido (CV: Caitlin Glass) from My Hero Academia. Once again, I don’t know much about MHA at all (in fact a lot of my friends helped me with English voice claims for my girls so thank you to my friends ilysm) but I think Mina’s energy in her voice fits Natalie perfectly.
That’s it for Natalie! Next up will be Hotaru! Sadly, the rest of the precure intros will not have refs because I was in the process of making them but now my iPad is not in the condition to be doing digital art. So sorry for the inconvenience but it’ll get done when it gets done.

SBS & NITV new crime drama True Colours is a murder mystery like no other
Tumblr media
A powerful collaboration between SBS and NITV, True Colours is a murder mystery that twists and turns between two laws to find a killer very close to home.
Things are not what they seem in a new four-part crime drama True Colours.
What starts with the investigation of a car accident soon turns into an epic hunt for a killer. It’s a murder mystery like no other exploring culture, community, family and one woman’s pursuit to find her place within it.
Set in the fictional community of Perda Theendar against the backdrop of the Northern Territory’s Mparntwe (Alice Springs) and Yeperenye (East MacDonnell Ranges), the series in English and Arrernte, is a ground-breaking insight into the Arrernte peoples’ connection to art and cultural practices.
Detective Toni Alma, played by Rarriwuy Hick (Redfern Now, Cleverman, Wentworth), is assigned to investigate a suspicious car accident in Perda Theendar, the Aboriginal community she left as a child and has had little to do with over the years. The beauty of Aboriginal art and the sometimes-devious practices in the global art market lead Detective Alma on a hunt for a killer in her hometown.
Tumblr media

Hick spearheads a stellar cast including Luke Arnold (Never Tear Us Apart: The Untold Story of INXS, Black Sails), acclaimed singer-songwriter Warren H. Williams, and Miranda Otto (The Unusual Suspects, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, The Lord of the Rings).
Rarriwuy Hick said she is "beyond proud" to be involved in such a ground-breaking drama series.
"(True Colours) takes viewers deep into the world of a First Nations community as it has never been seen before, also showcasing Arrernte language which is extraordinary to hear and perform," Hick said.
I can’t wait for everyone to see this amazing series. — Rarriwuy Hick.
"It’s always a pleasure to bring a character to life on screen, but there’s something special about playing Toni Alma. As a woman who is trying to work out who she is and what she wants, she is as equally drawn to her family and culture as she is confronted by it. I can’t wait for everyone to see this amazing series.”

The creative team behind this bold story are co-creators Erica Glynn (Redfern Now, Black Comedy, She Who Must Be Loved) and Warren H. Williams (who also stars in the series as Detective Alma’s uncle, Samuel), with writers Erica Glynn, Steven McGregor (Sweet Country, Mystery Road), and Danielle MacLean (Little J & Big Cuz, Mystery Road).
The series is produced by Penny Smallacombe, and Bunya Productions’ David Jowsey and Greer Simpkin, the award-winning team behind Sweet Country, Mystery Road, and Goldstone.
The ensemble cast includes Errol Shand, Emilie de Ravin, Trisha Morton Thomas and Ben Oxenbould, and is rounded out by exceptional local talent, many of whom count the series as their first acting role: Sabella Kngwarraye Ross Turner, Kurt Abbott, Kumalie Kngwarraye, Natalie Pepperill, Warren ‘Wazza’ Williams, Grant Wallace, Janaya Kopp, Siobhan Breaden, Genise Williams, Martin McMillan, Keenan Mitchell, Stella McMillan, Rosario Young, and Waylon Dixon.
SBS Head of Scripted Julie Eckersley and NITV Head of Commissioning and Programming Kyas Hepworth agree SBS and NITV are a great team.
"We believe in the unique power of fiction to transport audiences into fascinating and often underexplored worlds not otherwise seen on Australian TV," the pair said.
"True Colours is NITV’s first foray into long-form drama and continues our commitment to telling diverse stories with a distinctive voice. This is not only a remarkable drama, but also a significant moment in television history.”

The series will be subtitled in Arabic, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Vietnamese and Korean and will be added to the subtitled collection on SBS On Demand.
True Colours leads SBS and NITV’s impressive NAIDOC slate for 2022, including two specials of Living Black that take a closer look at the making of the series, including a forum where Grant is joined by the cast and creators to explore how culture and community shaped this unique program.
True Colours premieres Monday 4 July at 8.30pm on SBS and NITV.

Nominee Spotlight: Nintendo Precure!
Hello everyone, Peach here! Thank you for nominating Nintendo Precure (NP) for the fancuries again. It really means a lot to me, and I just wanted to thank you all for your support on my project. (Though I haven’t done much recently, I hope you will all still support me in the future!)
Let’s jump in shall we? (Ahaha get it funny Cure Jump joke-)
✧༝┉┉┉┉┉˚*♔ ♛ ♔*˚┉┉┉┉┉༝✧
Best Mascot Design (Pixelena)
Tumblr media
“I’M BACK AGAIN, AND THIS TIME I WILL BE VICTORIOUS!!! #PIXELENASWEEP”
I’m once again sorry for her behavior, she doesn’t learn when to shut up. I was actually nominated for this theme last year, and didn’t win. I thought it would be funny to pick it up again, mainly because I do think Pixelena is indeed the cutest ball of floof in the world. As some know, Pixelena’s design is based off a plushie I actually own. One of my favorite aspects of her design is her polka dots. I think they’re really cute and definitely her charm point.
✧༝┉┉┉┉┉˚*♔ ♛ ♔*˚┉┉┉┉┉༝✧
Best Supporting Cast (NP)
Tumblr media
“Sonar— tell me next time when you’re about to monster hug me!”
“Sorry Taylor! Maria and I are just so excited!”
“Group hugs are the best!”
Another repeat nomination since they also didn’t win last year, but I chose them rather because I love the supporting cast of NP so much (some may say I love them a bit TOO much) (some may even DARE to say I love a certain blue haired boy even more than my cures). I love all their dynamics, and how even though they’re just on the side, they are still important supporting characters to NP’s world building and lore. Have I mentioned that Maria looks like main character material?…
✧༝┉┉┉┉┉˚*♔ ♛ ♔*˚┉┉┉┉┉༝✧
Chapter of the Year (NP EP3)
Tumblr media
Nintendo Precure! Episode 3: The journey begins! Cure Trainer sets off!
Honestly surprised that I’m even on episode 3 ahaha— I feel that I’m not the best at writing, and definitely prefer character dialogue… but thank you everyone who reads my story. Episode 3 focuses on Natalie Goldstone and how she becomes Cure Trainer. I hope her electrifying energy could be felt by all! There’s some fun shenanigans that happen in this episode, and also the introduction of some of the other Game Over Squad members, like Datarai and Virusto! In the end, I hope it’s been a fun and enjoyable journey so far.
✧༝┉┉┉┉┉˚*♔ ♛ ♔*˚┉┉┉┉┉༝✧
Cutest Written Cure (Cure Trinity)
Tumblr media
“M-me?!”
I wasn’t expecting to see Cure Trinity/Emiko pop up on this category, but it was indeed a welcome one. Her determination to try her best with interacting with Larissa, Natalie, and Pixelena (as of right now) definitely shows off how cute she is. She is indeed, trying her best! And that’s okay! I hope in the future, Emiko impresses you all with her wisdom, courage, and strength!
✧༝┉┉┉┉┉˚*♔ ♛ ♔*˚┉┉┉┉┉༝✧
Once again, thank you all so much for the nominations and support! It means so much to me!

The devious practices in the global art market take Detective Toni Alma on an epic hunt for a killer. Spanning her small Northern Territory community and art galleries across the globe, this is a murder mystery like no other.
SBS and National Indigenous Television (NITV) are proud to announce the award-winning cast and creative team behind its new original fiction commission True Colours, as filming commences in the breathtakingly beautiful Yeperenye (MacDonnell Ranges), east of Mparntwe (Alice Springs).
Rarriwuy Hick (Redfern Now, Cleverman, Wentworth) spearheads a talented ensemble playing Detective Toni Alma, who is assigned to investigate a suspicious car accident in Perdar Theendar, the Indigenous community she left as a child and has had little to do with over the years.
The beauty of Indigenous art and the sometimes-devious practices in the global art market take Detective Toni Alma on an epic hunt for a killer. Spanning her small Northern Territory community and art galleries across the globe, this is a murder mystery like no other; exploring culture, community and the very human pursuit of identity and belonging in this new four-part crime drama from Bunya Productions, with the support of Screen Australia’s First Nations Department, Screen NSW, Screen Territory and International partner About Premium Content.
The series came from an original concept by Arrernte singer-songwriter Warren H. Williams and co-creator, writer and director Erica Glynn. Warren H. Williams will star alongside Luke Arnold (Never Tear Us Apart, Black Sails), Erroll Shand (Operation Buffalo, Mystery Road, Rake), Emilie de Ravin (Remember Me, Lost, Once Upon A Time), Trisha Morton Thomas (Total Control, Redfern Now, Radiance), Ben Oxenbould (The Kettering Incident, Mr InBetween, Mystery Road) and Miranda Otto (The Unusual Suspects, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, The Lord of the Rings).
Kumalie Riley, Kurt Abbott, Sabella Turner, Natalie Peperill, Warren ‘Wazza’ Williams, Grant Wallace, Janaya Kopp, Martin McMillan, Siobhan Breaden, Genise Williams, Keenan Mitchell, Stella McMillan, Rosario Young and Waylon Dixon will also appear, many in their first major television roles.
The creative team bringing this bold story to life are writer/directors Erica Glynn (Redfern Now, Black Comedy, She Who Must Be Loved) and Steven McGregor (Sweet Country, Mystery Road), who wrote the scripts alongside Danielle MacLean (Little J & Big Cuz, Mystery Road). Produced by the award-winning team behind Sweet Country, Mystery Road and Goldstone - Greer Simpkin, David Jowsey and Penny Smallacombe.
Co-Creator, Writer and Director, Erica Glynn said it's "an honour and a privilege" to sit beside Warren H Williams, the Amoonguna Community, and the town of Mparntwe (Alice Springs) to mark a screen space for Arrernte people, language, culture and land.
Director of Content at SBS, Marshall Heald, says this series contributes to the network's strong history of delivering exceptional drama with impactful storytelling.
"Our recent success with The Hunting, The Unusual Suspects and Hungry Ghosts demonstrates our continued commitment to telling diverse stories with a distinctive voice and purpose, to engage and entertain Australian audiences and True Colours continues that tradition," he said.
"We are thrilled to bring this compelling story of family and the complexities of the Indigenous art world to life and look forward to working with an impressive cast and the talented creative team in Bunya Productions.”
True Colours premieres on SBS & NITV in 2022.

My Decade in Books Tag
@lexi-rose-studyblr tagged me for this--thanks!!
The rules: respond to the prompt “my decade in books” however you want, & then tag some ppl! I chose some of my favorites from that year along with a brief description of what I was doing (which is different than what the person who tagged me did). You can do that or make up your own response
I had to do something I never do to make this post: use Tumblr on my computer. I forgot what it looks like in a browser instead of mobile--it’s weird
Lucky for me, I joined Goodreads in 2009, although I didn’t use it regularly until 2015. So I had some help to remember, but let’s just say I left a lot of blanks for myself
2010: This was the end of my sophomore and start of junior year in high school, and because of the coursework at the time, I still had the ability to read in every spare moment. I read a lot of the Bloody Jack series by L.A. Meyer, a lot of e.e. cummings, and Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne
2011: Junior-senior year of high school, and I was so concerned with first AP tests and then college applications, I know goodreads snuck off my radar a lot. I finally read Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson, which was one of my grandpa’s favorite books (he died in 2003), and many other classics as I prepped for my AP Lit test. I actually enjoyed many of the ones I read, but I no longer remember which ones I read from the 2010-2012 period, so I thought I’d mention a couple of them here: The Great Gatsby, Cry the Beloved Country, Go Tell it On the Mountain, Sons and Lovers, and Pride and Prejudice
2012: Senior year of high school and starting my freshman year of college. I really had no idea how much my life was about to change--I regularly stay in touch with only a tiny handful of my friends from high school now, which is weird. I do remember, though, in prep for my AP Lit test, my teacher gave us a list of prompts from previous years, and I made it my mission to find a way to use Harry Potter for all of them. I ended up writing the actual test essay on the Scottish Play--which I dearly love--but it was fun anyway. I again have a mostly empty goodreads, but I really liked The Macho Paradox by Jackson Katz and The Books of Bayern by Shannon Hale
2013: Ending my freshman year and starting my sophomore year of college, I started dating my now-husband, and I used goodreads much less than before. Of the few books I included on goodreads, I enjoyed Deadly Persuasion by Jean Kilbourne and The Cry of the Icemark by Stuart Hill, which was a reread (and still one of my favorite books ever).
2014: This year were some of my hardest physics classes in undergrad, so I almost never used goodreads, which means my memory of what I read is limited. I did enjoy A Confusion of Princes by Garth Nix, but that’s the only rating I left
2015: Junior-senior year of undergrad, when I realized I didn’t want to go to astro grad school, but wanted to be involved in science education somehow. Some of my favorite books were: The Shadow and Bone trilogy by Leigh Bardugo (and so began my love for Queen Leigh), the Alex and Ada comic book trilogy, Nimona by Noelle Stevenson, the Chaos Walking trilogy by Patrick Ness, Rebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins, Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein, When Christ and His Saints Slept by Sharon Kay Penman, Ash by Malinda Lo, Seraphina by Rachel Hartman, 1421 by Gavin Menzies, and House of Ivy and Sorrow by Natalie Whipple
2016: I graduated with my undergrad degrees, and while I waited to be able to apply for the next round of grad school openings, I worked part-time at a library--so, so many good books were found that way. We adopted our sweet fur babies that year. Books I loved included: The Imposter Queen by Sarah Fine, A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket, Heartless by Marissa Meyer, When the Moon Was Ours by Anne-Marie McLemore, The Supernatural Enhancements by Edgar Cantero, The Paper Magician trilogy by Charlie N. Holmberg, Everything Leads To You by Nina LaCour, The Princess Saves Herself In This One by Amanda Lovelace, Isabella: The Warrior Queen by Kirstin Downey, and a variety of girl-lead superhero comic books for my women’s and gender studies senior thesis
2017: I started grad school that fall, but spend the first half of the year still working at the library, so I read a whole lot. It was also the year my now-husband proposed. Highlights include: Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire, The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley, Wild Beauty by Anne-Marie McLemore, Wicked Like a Wildfire by Lana Popovic, A Caribbean Mystery by Agatha Christie, To Be Or Not To Be by Ryan North, Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, Radium Girls by Kate Moore, Young and Damned and Fair by Gareth Russell, The Bone Witch by Rin Chupeco, Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde, and The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden
2018: I finished my first year and started my second year of grad school, getting married smack dab in the middle of my summer term. The time for reading drastically went down, but I managed to read way more than expected. Some favorites include: The Prince and the Dressmaker by Jen Wang, The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon, Peril at End House by Agatha Christie, The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton, Sea Witch by Sarah Henning, the Lockwood and Co. series by Jonathan Stroud, Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid, Daughters of the Winter Queen by Nancy Goldstone, and Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones
2019: This was a Hell Year for me, with my migraines reaching new heights, and I spent a lot of time listening to audiobooks because it was the only thing I could do. Some books I loved last year were: Beyond the Hundred Kingdoms by Rod Espinosa (The Courageous Princess #1), Sera and the Royal Stars #1-5, Red White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston, Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo, Over the Top by Jonathan van Ness, At Bertram’s Hotel by Agatha Christie, Her Royal Spyness by Rhys Bowen, Code Girls by Liza Mundy, In Other Lands by Sarah Rees Brennan, and god, so many more, so I’ll leave it there because I could go on for a long time (2019 was a good year for books for me because I stuck by my policy of putting down books I wasn’t enjoying, even if it was just because I wasn’t feeling them at that moment)
For a more complete list of 2010-2019, feel free to check out my goodreads (and send me a friend request if you want)!
I like to use my notes to tag recent people, so here goes: @takemegnome, @abby-doodle-books, @anassarhenisch, @elenajohansenauthor, @bookphile, @dr-dendritic-trees, and @the-girl-who-lived-to-read. Feel free to do or not do, and anyone who wants to jump on, feel free to take this as your tag!

Welcome to Music Monday when we bring you fun songs with jewelry, gemstones or precious metals in the lyrics or title. Today, Tony Award winner Patti LuPone calls Mr. Goldstone “a gem” in a witty tune from the 2008 revival of the 1959 Broadway musical, Gypsy. In the song “Have an Eggroll, Mr. Goldstone,” LuPone as Mama Rose tries to secure a contract with the Orpheum Circuit executive by showering him with flattery and offering all kinds of leftovers from a take-out dinner.
With music by Jule Styne and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, Gypsy follows the lives of Rose, the ultimate show business mother, and her two daughters, June and Louise, as they navigate the vaudeville circuit during the early 1920s. Jammed into a small apartment, Rose and her girls are caught off guard when Rose’s boyfriend, Herbie, and Goldstone come by unannounced. Playwright Arthur Laurents cleverly uses the name Goldstone to convey the character’s wealth and power.
LuPone and the cast of Gypsy sing, “There are good stones and bad stones / and curbstones and gladstones / and touchstones and such stones as them / There are big stones and small stones / and grindstones and gallstones / but Goldstone is a gem!”
Gypsy opened to rave reviews on Broadway in 1959 with Ethel Merman in the lead role. Rosalind Russell and Natalie Wood starred in the big screen version of Gypsy in 1963 and the stage show returned to Broadway in 1974, 1989, 2003 and 2008. LuPone’s portrayal of Rose won her a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical. Critics have called Gypsy the greatest American musical.
Trivia: The Northport, NY-born LuPone played the part of Louise in a high school production of Gypsy when she was 13 years old.
More trivia: “Have an Eggroll, Mr. Goldstone” is the fifth song of Act I in the 2008 revival of Gypsy. The original name of the song was “Mr. Goldstone, I Love You.”
Please check out the audio clip of LuPone and the 2008 Broadway cast of Gypsy singing “Have an Eggroll, Mr. Goldstone.” The lyrics are below if you’d like to sing along…
“Have an Eggroll, Mr. Goldstone” Written by Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim. Performed by Patti LuPone and the Broadway cast of Gypsy.
Have an eggroll, Mr. Goldstone. Have a napkin, have a chopstick, have a chair. Have a spare rib, Mr. Goldstone. Any spare that I can spare I’ll be glad to share!
Have a dish, have a fork, have a fish, have a pork. Put your feet up. Feel at home. Have a smoke, have a Coke. Would you like to hear a joke? I’ll have June recite a poem!
Have a leechie, Mr. Goldstone. Tell me any little thing that I can do. Ginger peachy, Mr. Goldstone. Have a kumquat, have two! Everybody give a cheer. Santa Claus is sitting here. Mr. Goldstone I love you!
Have a Goldstone, Mr. Eggroll. Tell me any little thing that I can do. Have some fried rice, Mr. Soy Sauce. Have a cookie, have a few! What’s the matter, Mr. G? Have another pot of tea. Mr. Goldstone I love you!
There are good stones and bad stones and curbstones and gladstones and touchstones and such stones as them. There are big stones and small stones and grindstones and gallstones, but Goldstone is a gem!
There are milestones, there are mill stones. There’s a cherry, there’s a yellow, there’s a blue. But we don’t want any old stone, only Goldstone will do! Moonstones, sunstones. We all scream for one stone. Mr. Goldstone we love you! Goldstone!

How Natalie White Turned Her Criminal Trial into Performance Art

The rules governing civil disobedience are opaque, and New York-based artist Natalie White learned that lesson the hard way. After DC Capitol Police arrested White for writing “ERA NOW” in water-soluble paint on the sidewalk in front of the US Capitol Building, the feminist activist turned due process on its head by transforming her criminal trial proceedings for “defacing public or private property” into performance art advocating for the yet-to-be-passed Equal Rights Amendment (ERA).
“Most people don’t even know that women don’t have equal rights under the law,” White tells The Creators Project. Though the ERA, which would definitively prohibit discrimination on the basis of sex, was passed by Congress in 1972, it failed to be ratified. By the 1982 deadline for state ratification, just 35 states had approved the amendment, three short of the number needed. Since then, the ERA has been reintroduced during every subsequent session of Congress, and though polls indicate that more than 90% of Americans support the amendment, Congress has not once voted on it in the last 30 years.

Fighting for visibility of the ERA is a cornerstone of White’s artistic practice, and in July 2016, she led a 16-day, 250-mile march from New York City to DC to advocate for its long-overdue adoption. The day after, White went to the Capitol and penned her message on the sidewalk, in broad daylight. At first, she got off scot-free. But an article in the New York Post set off a madcap investigation by Capitol Police that culminated in a night in jail for White.
“What shocked me was the exorbitant expenditure of taxpayer money by Capitol Police on this case,” White says. The District flew two officers from Washington to New York to arrest White at her home, but as evidenced by her social media accounts, White never left DC. Police put out a federal warrant for her arrest, and when White turned herself in, she was locked up. The police also submitted evidence for forensic fingerprinting analysis and brought five government witnesses in to testify at her trial.
“Why would they even choose to prosecute this case? They’re taking a prosecutor away from actually going after criminals. They’re going after me, when they could be spending that money on testing rape kits or prosecuting perpetrators of domestic violence. It’s ridiculous,” White says.

Fortuitously, the trial was scheduled for January 17, just days before Trump’s inauguration and the Women’s March on Washington, so White decided to transform the court proceedings into pro-ERA performance art. Advised by acclaimed DC first amendment attorney Mark Goldstone and legendary New York civil rights attorney Ron Kuby, White represented herself, presenting “a creative defense that confronts the cultural climate that has been pervasive since long before the Equal Rights Amendment’s introduction to Congress in 1923, and which Trump is slated to perpetuate and amplify nearly a century later.” She enlisted friends and fellow pro-ERA activists like model Lizzy Jagger and Academy Award-winner Patricia Arquette to act as character witnesses.

Goldstone and Kuby warned White that bending the rules of the courtroom by answering the charges of vandalism with political defenses might not work with the judge assigned to her case. “At the beginning [...] he was cutting me off a lot. Midway through, he really came around, and I was able to get my monologue out, and get my message out. I was able to question the police officers and my own witnesses,” White says.
The judge ultimately found White guilty, due to legal precedence from a case in which pro-life protesters were found guilty of vandalism for drawing a chalk mural in front of the White House. But during sentencing, the judge also voiced his support for White’s actions, calling civil disobedience a longstanding American tradition. The court sentenced White to a $50 charitable donation and a six month stay-away from the Capitol, except to meet with lawmakers in an effort to pass the ERA. “That’s not something that’s ever granted to anyone, but I convinced the judge to let me go to the Capitol, pretty much for what I consider to be the reason why you should be going to the Capitol in the first place,” White says.

Days after her trial, now a free woman, White rallied at the Women’s March on Washington with Jagger, Arquette, and activists Kamala Lopez and Sarabeth Stroller. I happened upon them, somehow, amongst more than half a million people who’d descended on the National Mall to oppose the Trump administration and demand women's rights. Working the crowd, megaphone in hand, White was magnetic—an ERA crusader sowing seeds of anger and action amongst the men and women she addresed. It was clear the court proceedings hadn't gotten her down. Though "the man" had tried to silence her, it'd take a lot more than a vandalism charge to curtail White's crusade for Equal Rights.
