I think the canon naoshin dynamic is really underrated. because yeah sure, they’re the two characters most likely to read fanfics, they could probably make a game together, but what happens between them in the actual game is just golden to me

their first ever interaction was this

and their last (possibly second ever!) significant interaction was them working together to outsmart the mishima ai and kick off an entire escape plan. what kind of relationship progression is that?? it must’ve been incredibly awkward for nao to ask shin for help when his impression of her was just “the girl that gave me a concussion and accidentally fueled like five mental breakdowns”.

and they end up surprisingly good at working together! nao either convinces sara to give her ranger’s chip or takes it by force, both of which shin would absolutely suck at if he tried it by himself, and shin hacks the mishima ai, which is something only he is capable of. and neither of them seem reluctant about the whole thing, they seem to really trust each other with this

also, this is just a funny thing I’ve noticed, but Nao pushes Sou away when she “steals” the laptop and chip from him, which is either something they had to stage and discuss in advance (”Oh, so you’re planning to attack me again?””I-It’s not like that!”), or just something Nao did out of nowhere for the sake of making everything look convincing. and I don’t know which option is funnier

also also, in the second main game nao is the first person to defend shin when keiji is trying to hurry the discussion and kill him

(obviously she’s also saving herself since she’s the sacrifice, but that action ends up winning shin a route where he can live as well)

also also also one or both of them die in the second main game, so picture the logic route angst where shin watches nao and kanna die within five minutes of each other. or the massacre angst where nao ends up stabbing shin in the back after allying with him and even somewhat standing up for him. or the emotion angst where they die together, both happy that they didn’t have to betray anyone in the end

i love both romantic Naoreko and queerplatonic Naoshin cause it gives Nao the opportunity to go "eeeek, this is my girlfriend, Reko, isn't she just the coolest ever??? we met at her band's meet and greet and i can't believe she wanted to stay in touch!! she's so, so, so kind and talented and strong and brave and protective- oh, that one? i found Shin having a breakdown outside the shop he works at one day because a customer was mean to him and thought he was kinda cute and wanted to be friends, ehe!!"

and then while Shin and Reko both love Nao, they are firm frenemies to each other. they argue non-stop every time they see each other- however!! Reko would beat up anyone who bullies Shin and he anonymously doxxes anyone who hates on her music online. neither know the other does this, Nao does though

also the three of them could totally make an RPG Maker game together. Shin programming, Nao doing the art, Reko the music

a very chaotic trio!! (this Nankidai sketch means everything to me)
