Nancy Lynn White: On Crafting Tales of Love and Resilience
Born into the nomadic life of a military family in the heart of Washington, D.C., Nancy Lynn White's journey has been as diverse and dynamic as the characters she brings to life in her novels. Know more about her in this exclusive interview.
“Every main character in your book must have an emotional wound, something that changed them into the person they are now… Every story must also have a conflict or many conflicts to make the story interesting.”– Nancy Lynn White

Like the music in the new Hunger Games movie but not really know anything about folk/bluegrass/country? Here are some quick recs to get you started!
(This is not comprehensive and the genres here are a little whack, these are just songs I listen to as someone raised on good Appalachian vibes. Not necessarily from just Appalachian artists, particularly in the second section. Just think it’s nice that people are getting more exposure to folk + bluegrass!)
Protest Songs / Coal Criticism
(Hazel Dickens I would give you smooches.. also these are just the ones living in my playlists rn)
“You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive,” Patty Loveless
“The L and N Don’t Stop Here Anymore,” Jean Ritchie
“Coal Tattoo,” and I’m exercising my free will and linking the Hazel Dickens version
“The Yablonski Murder,” Hazel Dickens
“Coal,” Tyler Childers
“Trip to Hyden,” Tom T. Hall
“Coal Miner’s Daughter,” Loretta Lynn
“Devil Put the Coal in the Ground,” Steve Earle
Assorted Personal Favorites
(where my love for Sierra Ferrell is really on display)
“West Virginia Waltz,” Sierra Ferrell
“Across the Great Divide,” Nanci Griffith
“Blue Ridge Mountain,” Hurray for the Riff Raff
“Iowa (Traveling, Pt. 3),” Dar Williams
“Rhododendron,” Bella White
“Boulder to Birmingham,” Emmylou Harris
“Silver Dollar,” Sierra Ferrell
“Hands of Time,” Margo Price
“Lilacs,” Waxahatchee
“Way of the Triune God,” Tyler Childers
“The Dreaded Spoon,” Ricky Skaggs + Bruce Hornsby
“Preacher in the Ring, Pt. 1,” Bruce Hornsby

what kinda music would the eds like?
oh dude
you'll be shocked to learn that all their tastes are based on my own.
to me eddy is a big Music Enjoyer™ and i think he goes through phases, but his overall taste is expansive. he's is obviously into disco - abba, sylvester, bee gees, EWF, kool and the gang, barry white. i see him enjoying old funk/soul/r&b - bootsy collins, the gap band, chaka khan, curtis mayfield, patrice rushen. pop/country oldies - nancy sinatra, dusty springfield, patsy cline, brenda lee, peggy lee, loretta lynn. 40s, 50s & 60s girl groups cuz that's what his mom likes- andrews sisters, mcguire sisters, ronettes, marvelettes, etc. 80s dance - the egyptian lover, pretty tony, debbie deb, newcleus, loose ends, madonna. 90s house and dance - crystal waters, la bouche, lisa stansfield, robin s, real mccoy. other 90s pop - aaliyah, britney, sugar ray, backstreet boys, nsync, aqua, smash mouth ace of base, TLC, destiny's child. a touch of ska with sublime, 311. other random stuff - fatboy slim, louis prima, azalea banks, limp bikit, shaggy, dua lipa (gay), the prodigy. there's so much more honestly but basically anything i like is what eddy likes 😳 he's like the catch all haha.
edd also loves music but i tend to think of stuff that reminds me of him vs. what he would actually listen to. crystal castles to me is edd music because i'm gay and emo but i don't think he'd really listen to them outside of the gothedd au that exists only in my head lmao. things i do think he'd listen to include kraftwerk, aphex twin, boards of canada, daft punk, massive attack, agnes obel, avalanches, burial. most of which he discovers through eddy of course. some outliers might be tool, muse, enya, anita baker (don't ask ok). there's other stuff i'm sure but that's probably enough for now.
ed is harder for me to nail down cuz i see him as mostly a rock/metal fan and even though i grew up listening to it, i've never gone super deep into the genre tbh. his favorite bands are primus and death grips. others would be alice in chains, nirvana, SOAD, melvins, butthole surfers, smashing pumpkins, black sabbath, metallica, rob zombie/white zombie. he might be into other 80s metal, black metal, sludge metal. none of which are anything i listen to so i couldn't tell ya what artists.
BUT other folks have made some great playlists for ed and the eds in general which i'll link here.
@mkorpse13's ed playlist
@mysticbeaver's ed and eddy playlists
@owmylasagna-blog's playlists for all the eds
@fish-bowl-2 has a great playlist for general eene vibes as well
my playlists for all three are here. not super long but i might add to them at some point.

Who would you say are some exceptional female historians who've written about the US presidency?
There are scores of great female Presidential historians, so any quick list that I make will invariably leave deserving historians out and I apologize ahead of time. Before I begin the list, I want to give special recognition to one of the very best:
Doris Kearns Goodwin's bibliography measures up against the books of any and all Presidential historians. Her first book, Lyndon Johnson and the American Dream: The Most Revealing Portrait of a President and Presidential Power Ever Written (BOOK | KINDLE | AUDIO) was originally published in 1976 but, in my opinion, remains one of the greatest Presidential biographies EVER written.
Others, in no particular order:
•Margaret Leech
•Amy S. Greenberg
•Elizabeth Drew
•Brenda Wineapple
•Candice Millard
•Amity Shlaes
•Jan Jarboe Russell
•Annette Gordon-Reed
•Alexis Coe
•Lady Bird Johnson (her diaries are priceless first-person accounts of her husband's Presidency and life in the White House)
•Joanne B. Freeman
•Lynne Cheney (surprisingly to most people, the wife of former Vice President Dick Cheney is a respected historian who has written excellent books on James Madison and the early Presidents from Virginia)
•Fawn Brodie
•Aida D. Donald
•Kate Andersen Brower
•Elizabeth Brown Pryor
•Peggy Noonan
•Nancy Gibbs
•Nancy Isenberg
•Susan Swain
•Margaret Truman
•Edna Greene Medford

1980s Horror Film Character Names
I totally forgot I’d started making this last year! I think I never posted it because I wanted to find more names, but there’s already a decent amount and I don’t feel like being that tedious about names right now lol.
It’s first & last names (separated for mix & match potential) of characters from iconic late 1970s & 1980s horror movies. I think I started looking for cheesier B-movies to pull from, but yeah it’s been a whole year so I forget.

82-year-old veteran sex kitten Ann-Margret dropped Born to Be Wild, her first new album in over a decade, last month (her previous one - God is Love: The Gospel Sessions 2 – came out in 2011). My notes!
This is being referred to as Ann-Margret’s “first classic-rock album”, but her early sixties recordings brim with delights like the girl group-style “I Just Don’t Understand”, her sultry cover of Elvis’ “Heartbreak Hotel” and her interpretations of R&B songs like “Roll with Me, Henry” and “Jim Dandy”. Ann-Margret has always rocked!
On the wailing title track (a cover of the 1968 Steppenwolf song), A-M is backed by The Fuzztones – and it’s genuinely ferocious! (This isn’t her first foray into garage punk: “It’s a Nice World to Visit (But Not to Live In)” - her 1969 collaboration with Lee Hazlewood - still slaps hard).
The musical backing is grittier, brasher and more rockabilly than you might expect. (On “Volare” A-M is accompanied by Lee Rocker and Slim Jim Phantom of The Stray Cats). “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” belongs on every festive Spotify playlist! Her efforts at doo wop (“Earth Angel” and “Why Do Fools Fall in Love?”) and “Son of a Preacher Man” are credible. (The latter won’t make you forget Dusty, but it compares favorably with Bobbie Gentry and Nancy Sinatra’s versions).
Best of all: “Somebody's in My Orchard” is slinky cocktail jazz loungecore with “blue” lyrics (“Somebody digs my fig trees / Someone loves their juice / That someone with that sweet juice / Ain't nothing but bad news ….”).
Less happily: duets with Pat Boone and Cliff Richard represent bad kitsch rather than fun kitsch. There’s frequently a whiff of Branson, Missouri and karaoke. Can’t help but wish A-M would find hipper collaborators and material. Not a fan of his but consider how Jack White produced late-period Loretta Lynn and Wanda Jackson albums. Not that A-M ever worried about “credibility” – her priority is to entertain. Finally: with the recent deaths of her contemporaries like Stella Stevens and Raquel Welch, the time to appreciate Ann-Margret is NOW! Next, we need comeback albums from Joey Heatherton and Connie Stevens!
Portrait of Ann-Margret by Chantal Anderson for The New York Times, March 2023

it's about cycles. It's about love, it's about loss, it's about endless leavetakings and homecomings. It's about addiction and abuse. It's about manic/depressive swings and seasonal affective disorder and also the joy of leaves changing color and crocuses blooming in the frost. It's about Her.
Persephone in Autumn: "Songs for an Earth-daughter, abducted, not entirely unwillingly: but increasingly irritable in captivity"
Persephone in Spring: "Songs for an Earth-daughter, irrepressible and freed, but already homesick"

does group projects almost single-handedly because he trusts no one to get it done well.
also does other people's homework in exchange for cash.

hello, cat and mouse! i hope y'all are having a wonderful whatever time of day it is for you. i come to you, hat in hand, to humbly request some faceclaim help, please.
i'm looking for a lady to be the face of my vampire oc. she appears to be about 28 years old and has a goth / punk / alt style. i'd prefer someone with a side shave or a mohawk ( i don't mind models or musicians ), but understand if that's really hard / impossible. if you can only find folks with fun color dyed hair, that's fine as well! however, when she was human, she had a really conservative "good girl" look ( think season 1 nancy wheeler from stranger things ). she was turned in 1986 and gradually changed her look over the years. i would prefer ladies who are white due to her privilege being a huge reason that she got to do certain things and got away with certain attitudes when she was human.
Tuppence Middleton (1987) - had an alternative vibe in Sense8.
Macarena García (1988) - had an alternative vibe in Despite Everything.
Mae Whitman (1988) - is pansexual and had an alternative vibe in Jack.
Úrsula Corberó (1989) - had an alternative vibe in Money Heist.
Adelaide Kane (1990) - had an alternative vibe in Into the Dark.
Bria Vinaite (1992)
Taylor Momsen (1993)
Liv Morgan (1994)
Lynn Gunn (1994) - is gay.
Emma Mackey (1996) - is younger but had an alternative vibe in Sex Education.
Hey anon! I'm so sorry I couldn't find more but if our followers have any suggestions I'll update the ask ASAP.
