@New Moon Mycology Summit
August 29- September 2, 2019
THURMAN, NEW YORK
REGISTRATION IS OPEN!
https://www.newmoonmycologysummit.org/registration.html
We are so thrilled to announce the 2nd annual New Moon Mycology Summit!
The Mycelium Underground presents:
The New Moon Mycology Summit
The New Moon Mycology Summit connects varied disciplines and experiences that go beyond the Fungal Queendom
Mycology - Social Justice - Earth Skills
Fungi & their network of cells, called mycelium, do many tasks. They decompose organic matter into building blocks of life. They are responsible for distributing resources and hidden nutrients in soil, that only they can access, to other locations for plants to use. Like mycelium, reaching to finite corners of its environment, to nourish & expand its network, this summit will make those same significant connections within the community at large.
That is why this isn’t just your typical mushroom gathering, but rather multidisciplinary summit. We are inspired by the integrative, collaborative role of the fungi to bring together people from all fields and walks of life, and recognize that it is our uniqueness as individuals that will allow us to overcome and integrate the challenges that lie in our human path. Mycology reminds us that there are balanced systems in place beyond the mycelial network, thus opening the stage for more topics and discussions to be a part of this weekend. We want to make a space so that voices, and skills, from the fringes and the resistance are heard and honored.
We, within the Mycelium Underground have taken this to heart. We desire to support revived, grassroots, restorative forms of science, justice & community within a collapsing system of paradigms in the crisis of the Anthropocene.
Come learn and listen from over 30+ presenters and contributors, on topics wide and diverse, plus lessons and activities for kids and young adults! Art, music, tea, amazing home cooked meals will be had! Join in discussions, network and reset during the New Moon phase in Virgo along side community new and old!
We welcome social justice organizations, organizers + community leaders. We welcome organizations & groups to table and share their info & work. Water protectors, space creators, forest defenders, and ICE melters, join us! Plant medicine, permaculture, and more. Share, build up, strengthen and communicate, like the mycelium does.
Our mutual friend is Mother Earth
The New Moon Mycology Summit
takes place on the traditional lands and territory of the
Kanien’kehá:ka(Mohawk) + Haudenosaunee. Located in the SE corner of the Adirondack Park, sitting on over 150 acres of mixed woods. You'll enjoy mature and old growth stands of Oak, Maple, Beech, Birch, Hemlock + White Pine and more living ancestors. The land itself rests and is attached to another 1000+ acres to be with.
Myceliate the State!
New Moon Mycology Summit is an education focused sliding scale event.
Whats NEW?
Public Group Myco themed art project! More details soon!
Fungi + Ecology Classes for Kids - Ages 5-15
MycoFlora Project will be in attendance!
+ more to be announced!
Why Sliding Scale?
Because we want to make this event accessible to all folks. Please know that when you register & offer this contribution, it goes towards covering honorariums for the people opening up their time to travel & energy to teach everyone during the Summit. Funds from registration help cover costs of food, kitchen crew, set-up, cleaning and more to help birth this amazing community event. We can’t keep this going without your contribution, so please offer what you can.
THANK YOU!
Confirmed Presenters:
Nance Klehm, Ja Schindler, Willoughby Arevalo, Antonia Estela Pérez, Carl Ruck, Doga Tekin, Ava Arvest, Charlie Aller, Nina O'Malley, Olga Tzogas, Kwame Baskersville, Patty Kaishian, Rikki Tikki Tavi, Emma Lucille Percy, Geraldine Lavin, Christine Moss, Deborah Owens, Nova Patch, John C. I am thrilled to be in this article on @voguemagazine online today (along with some other wonderful women-led spaces) "“That’s a totally feminist point of view: Let’s actually help each other build each other’s businesses, help each other grow,” agrees Rachel Berks, whose 2015 t-shirt, “The Future Is Female,” has become a rallying cry (and a force for good: 25 percent of the proceeds go to Planned Parenthood). The mission of Otherwild—her L.A.-based design studio and boutique, which recently opened an outpost in New York’s East Village—is to provide a retail outlet for artists along with an active gathering space for women and queer communities. Upcoming wellness events includes one-on-one consultations with the herbalist Nance Klehm; the goods for sale are body-positive in function (flower and gem essences by Sister Spinster) and in design (boob-themed pool floats, ceramic pots, and bath towels)."

The Ground Rules: Nance Klehm with Jacob Blecher, Brett Bloom, Martin Brown, Evon Izquierdo, and Victoria Thurmond.
Written for any urban grower or inhabitant, The Ground Rules: A Manual to Connect Soil and Soul is both a document of The Ground Rules process and a guide to community composting and DIY soil remediation. As a practical guide the manual is full of detailed information on how to research a garden site, how to test your soil for toxins, and how to heal the soil through phyto- and mycoremediation. But it reaches beyond the how-to’s as well, to talk about the whys, with essays on restorative justice and deep mapping, and histories of the Chicago neighborhoods in which we work. Encouraging learning through observation, the manual asks at every juncture, “How is your body connected to that which is underneath your feet and supporting every step?"

Nance Klehm leads this seasonal series, by showcasing the foraging abundance of medians, boulevards, and tracts of land that are often hidden in our cultural blind spot. Learn that St. John’s Wort (pictured) is found in ditches and atop hills. Part radical urban historian and seasoned horticulturist, Nance Klehm leads this series on open air foraging and the importance of knowing where you are by the plants around you. Part of this walk and talk examines place-based eating, with a special focus on urban foraging possibilities, sensibilities, and politics.
