Made myself a new phone background for the Year of the Dragon. Originally it was going to feature my animal crossing girl Uni, but I realized that she would blend into the dragon too much, so my girl Nabe features in my Lunar New Year art again this year. 😅. She is my favorite to draw of my animal crossing girls, it’s no secret. Unfortunately, due to my chronic illness eating over a week of days I planned to work on this, shading it is going to be bumped down the priority list, but the flats are done, so please enjoy what I was able to finish in time.
It was sooo cold yesterday, and I had to go all the way to Tachikawa and back in the strong wind, then all the way to the pool only to find out they were closed, so the only thing that was going to make me feel better was super easy hotpot. Unfortunately it was so good that there were no leftovers!
Akakara brand stock (spicy and sweet!), napa cabbage, bok choy, mustard spinach, bean sprouts, leeks shirataki konjac, and tofu. Cook 10 minutes, then throw in a few gyoza and cook through. After eating all the fillings, you can make zōsui by cooking the broth down with some rice and beaten egg. It was perfect, but next time I'd want a bit of meat for the hotpot and some cheese for the zōsui.
Still unpacking and settling into the new place. Feeling kinda weird. I got the idea that hotpot would make me feel like I live here and also it is great for cool weather and takes very little work, so it’s nabe time!
My donabe is still in one of the boxes so just a normal pan. Chop several handfuls of Napa cabbage, slice tofu, and add to pan with bean sprouts, shirataki, and two upright sausages just for giggles. Top with pork, pour over spicy stock from Akadashi (where we ate after our city hall marriage so that’s always sweet), cover and let bubble until the temptation is overwhelming.
Making nabe (hot pot) for camping dinner! 🍲 I implore you to go watch Laid-Back Camp, it is so wholesome and sweet, it's just a bunch of high school girls going camping together 🔥⛺
