hoffstrahm is the ship of all time for a thg au. you wouldn't need to bend over backwards to keep them both alive in the games at all, as their happy ending does not involve mutually surviving any given situation ever. this opens up a world of heretofore unseen possibilities: do they keep running into each other and surviving the encounter by the skin of their teeth, until they don't? are they part of a career pack that inevitably self-destructs when push comes to shove? do they come to a fragile truce that lasts until the final two? are they the two highest-scoring tributes everyone's betting on that end up taking each other out in the bloodiest hand-to-hand you've ever seen like two days into the games, making the whole thing kind of anti-climactic? do they pass away quietly from hypothermia in each other's arms? truly so many avenues here we're kind of spoiled
