I realized that if SJ was selfloving selfish manipulative scum he would've survived so easily in pidw... Imagine if he asked YQY to get him out of prison or told LBH that he was "sorry" for what he did
yeah... that part of what makes him so tragic for all that haters like to call him "evil", its his acts of kindness that doom him. he saves shi wu and shi wu rats him out and has him sold to a sadistic pervert he drags qht to safety and she comes back to accuse him in the trial he tries to save lqg from qi deviating and gets accused of killing him
its like.... lbh has a protag halo where no matter what its impossible for him to fail, but it seems like sj has the absolute reverse. no matter how hard he tries things always come back to blow up in his face and everyone ends up thinking the worst of him there are worse characters in the novel. SQH and MBJ lead to the deaths of multiple ppl with the IAC invasion (AFTER SJ TRIED TO WARN ALL THE OTHER PLS THAT SQH WAS SUS), but no one ever blames them for that or calls them evil. opm is a pervert that lusts after and then ends up killing sxy, but people barely bat an eye at that. people love zzl even though he led to so many deaths in the plague arc and literally murdered gyx..... ive even seen people defending QJL..... the literal SLAVE OWNING SADIST PERVERT.... and saying sj should be GRATEFUL after being horrifically abused by him.... but somehow sj is the character that gets the most hate?
sj... the CHILD SLAVE ABUSE SURVIVOR sj is only set up as the 'villain' at the start of the novel to make a point about how sy is WRONG about him (and therefore, perhaps isnt as much of an 'expert' on everything else in the sv world as he originally thinks) .... like.... the whole POINT is that 99% of his crimes get proven to be untrue or misunderstandings !!!
ironically i feel like if he was an actual unrepentant evil villain people would like him more
instead, hes misunderstood by all the characters in the book AND by the fanbase. just for the crime of being an ACTUALLY realistic survivor
people say they want realistic and complex survivors in fiction, but then when we actually get them they go absolutely insane saying they were born evil and are inherently unlovable. even when mxtx was CLEARLY setting it up for all of that to be disproven... and even gives him his own extra to drive home the point...
like bro... he really was not that evil. hes a traumatized and complex character that tries his best to do good in a world where he absolutely is not rewarded for it

Despite everything I find terrible about Minuet in Hell, I will still re-listen to it if only for the Brigadier being amazing and the Eighth Doctor crying/screaming/begging/being a confused amnesiac.

Miguel is my favorite kind of character, he's an asshole with a tragic back story and he's just so obvious about it
Like he tries to be a stoic bastard but he's just sort of hemorrhaging all of his repressed emotional issues all over the place, like he literally put his trauma into a PowerPoint presentation that he shows to everyone

[...] the sky was painting him colours, too. Sasuke scanned the way the light tinted his face…the creases in his eyes. The way the scars stretched across his cheeks. The memory of his smile was written all over his face—Naruto's big, toothy grin. His soft, smaller understanding. The sunset caught along the strands of his hair, as if the rays of the sun found one of their own, and Naruto's eyes turned to him—
Sasuke looked away.

Across the Spider-Verse Spoilers Cuz I Gotta Talk About It
And it’s all about Miguel lmao
First, lemme start by saying, I have been completely enamored by Miguel for a long time. From his post credit scene in the first movie, I was curious about him. A couple of months ago, I got invested and started reading about him and now I really want his comics. I love the asshole. You obviously don't have to like him, but I think it's important to understand where he's coming from in this movie.
I don't understand how people can watch this movie and then still say Miguel and the Spider Society are bad guys. How is Miguel a bad guy? How is— Did you actually watch the movie? He is essentially the keeper of the Spider-Verse. He makes sure everything runs smoothly, there are no anomolies and the stories carry out as they should.
Why is that so important to him?
Because he fucked up a universe. He did something he shouldn't have done, something that would have made Dr Strange shit his pants and have an aneurysm. Miguel just wanted to be happy and have a family, like most people would want, like Miles wants. He saw a version of himself die and decided to shoot his shot and take that Miguel's place. He had his little girl, and they were happy. And then...it all fell apart.
Because he wanted to be happy, a selfish desire that shouldn't be wrong, he did something he shouldn't have, went somwhere he wasn't meant to be and the universe fell apart. Billions of people in that universe are now gone for good. His daughter disappeared in his arms, and there was absolutely nothing he could do about it.
How is anyone meant to deal with that? Like, how could you live knowing that a reality fell to pieces and the ones you loved and people you didn't even know are gone because of you? That pain, that agony, that anguish has to be immense. That's something I don't think I'd wish on anyone.
Is it hard to understand why Miguel takes the sacred timeline so seriously? We saw what happened in Loki. We saw what happened to Gabirella.
Was he really harsh on Miles at the end of their fight? Absolutely. He said some really mean, outright disrespectful things to him. Miles is just a kid; he's like 15 just trying to figure it all out. Miguel probably understands better than anyone else how Miles feels. This is why he's so hard on him and determined to not let Miles go home. He knows Miles is just a kid. Why would he let a kid make the same mistake he did and deal with the aftermath? No, it's not an easy choice to just let the person closest to you die when you can do something about it, but not letting it happen could result in Miles losing everything.
Miguel doesn't know that Gwen's dad quit being captain. We don't know what's going to happen afterwards, but we can only hope it's something good since that canon event won't happen. Gwen not falling for Miles is something she is actively fighting against. She obviously likes him, but she knows that Gwen always dies. It never ends well. Gwen is proving that somethings don't need to happen and can be circumvented. Miguel doesn't have that information so it isn't something he can account for, but I also think that's something he wouldn't want to risk without results first.
Like he said, they are the good people. Sometimes, the good people make mistakes. He's also trying to just get through it and figure everything out. He's doing this in the only way he knows how so the other Spidey people don't end up hurt the same way he did, especially that kid Miles.
Miguel. Is. A. Good. Guy.

Defintely agree! I think people mix up Dazai’s manipulation and control tendencies too, cause they always talk about the manipulation but leave his controlling demeanor behind. They’re similar but not the exact same. Like he is an absolute control freak through the entirety of his mafia days, we see that constantly through his apathy, but when he gets into the ADA, he struggles with that control constantly. Not everything goes through with his manipulation tactics because people have the opportunity to evade them more often and that is so odd for him. His control has boundaries now in the ADA (even if he pushes those boundaries) Suddenly he’s having to think even further ahead when his controlling influence doesn’t expand as far.
Dazai manipulates people in order to control the situation, not to control them, and that is a big BIG difference from Fyodor. He lets people make their own decisions based on the environment he has set up. Someone ones described it as observing ants in an anthill, digging them new paths they can run around in.
There's a conversation he and Dostoyevsky have during the casino arc, when Dostoyevsky checks Dazai (the chess metaphor) and Dazai explains that it doesn't matter how much they scheme or plot or how good they are at it, the people who actually change things are the people on the ground, the ones who take action. And so, I don't think Dazai ever viewed people as ants, or as something beneath him, like Fyodor does. I think it's a common misconception that even other BSD characters have. Dazai admires the people he spurrs into action, his friends and allies, because he thinks their strength and will is more powerful than him. It was like that in the PM and it's like that in the ADA.
This got away from me. TLDR: Dazai wants to control the outcome, he doesn't like controlling people. He likes watching them make their own decisions when presented with options he put down.

For some reason I had always held lots of compassion for Orochimaru in the period when he got his hands paralysed. I mean, he was not only in immense pain, but he also took a heavy blow to his pride which must have been really hurtful for such a prideful person like Orochimaru is. I am always too sensitive to the questions of pride and humiliation.

One of my favorite things to do while watching the rottmnt movie is spot all the times Leo weighs his options, goes for it, and regrets it- like this
Thinks about it

No Regrets

No wonder he doubts himself and thinks they’d be okay/better without him- most decisions he makes in the movie end in setbacks at best, and his brothers being hurt/the world ending at worst! I know they ALL need extensive therapy after all this but like…. DAMN Leo’s gonna some serious self worth issues after this (if he didn’t already)
Someone on tiktok said it best, “imagine never being able to live up to the version of yourself that ended the world” - that line haunts me to this day, you KNOW that’s how Leo looks at himself now- the guy that came in second place to a version of himself that ended the world and got his brothers killed.
I still have 2 more prominent examples but tumblr only allows 10 pics per post so I’ll have to reblog it.

I don’t think I’ve ever yelled at a screen the way I did trying to get Conrad not to sacrifice himself until I was screaming at Hank Green not to go alone to the DA’s office.
