Por segunda vez en tres años, Gianmarco Tamberi se encontró en la cima del mundo, celebrando un éxito mundial en salto de altura. Sólo que esta vez, en el Campeonato Mundial de Atletismo de Budapest 23 , el atleta de 31 años tuvo el escenario para él solo como campeón absoluto. Después de alimentarse de la energía del enorme contingente italiano entre la multitud en el Centro Nacional de Atletismo para convertirse en el único hombre en lograr 2,36 m en el primer momento, Tamberi se encontró abrazado por el rey qatarí del salto de altura, Mutaz Barshim. El ex rey, claro está. En los Juegos Olímpicos de Tokio, la pareja se abrazó para celebrar el éxito conjunto de la medalla de oro. Dos años después, Tamberi era el único campeón indiscutible. MUTAZ ESSA BARSHIM AND GIANMARCO TAMBERI WIN GOLD AT THE TOKYO 2020 OLYMPICS

After reading this 2018 article from Spikes, I realize that it was destiny for Tamberi and Barshim to share the Olympic gold medal.

Both came back from ankle injuries and encouraged each other on their shared road to Olympic glory.

This is the first gold for Italy in Athletics since 2008. This is the first-ever gold for Qatar in Athletics, and second gold in the country’s Olympic history.
