Growing by the Day

I never had the idea of having more kids. After I had my darling daughter at the age of 20 I thought I would be done. It was a hard experience for a young person, such as myself, to try and grow-up before she was ready....and boy was I NOT READY. I tried my best to prepare myself for everything that was to come but me being the gypsy I already was and being a touring musician I shuffled responsibility onto my parents and hit the road, not my finest moment in life. I was detached from the whole process of being a mother. I fought hard against myself and told myself I was doing the right thing. I didn’t know how to be a musician and a mother at the same time, let alone, be an adult. My daughter suffered for it in the long run. Though she is with me now and has been for a long time I still get the pangs of guilt of being inadequate at such a young age and also grateful to my parents for allowing me the time I needed to grow the hell up and not judge me for that process. We have grown stronger as a family through our experience and I have been able to come through to the other side in a now loving marriage of my own. My husband was light at the end of my dark childish years. To be a step-father is such a hard thankless job from the kids they are fathering. Not all kids, mind you, but a lot of them have a hard time adjusting to this new life and person telling them what to do. We all tread water at times and hold our breath that sharks don’t come feasting at our bodies, but we get through it one day at a time. Now I am over 6 months pregnant with my second child and his first. It’s almost like the GODS were testing me all along. The road never quite takes us to where we think it will but it always winds down a beautiful road if we choose it. I have more to write about these days. I have more to do these days. I have more to be grateful for these days and I have more growing to do by the day
