did more transcription work this morning of the soft piano music that plays during the tender nanqiu scenes in the spirealm that i'm so in love with. sheet music is here for anyone who would like it. note: this is beginner level - anyone who's played piano for probably a few months should be able to play this :)

Boss Metal Zone MT-2, tear-down photos, with schematic.
possibly the worlds most common pedal, the metal zone has had a pretty bad reputation, but I actually like it, in the right circumstance.
the metal zone has a very strong pre-eq that mimics the pre-amp tone of a Marshall or fender. I assume this was intended to give a cheep solid state practice amp the tone of those classic amps.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(chart of the frequency response, and schematic of the first stage of the MT-2)
it was common for early solid state amps to be more linear then a fender/Marshall, which have a very pronounced high end bump. (this is a result of the non-linarity of the tone control.) the high end bump can be flattering to a lead guitarist, and necessary to get a screaming hi-gain sound.
if the metal zone is placed before an amp that already has a pronounced hi end, it is going to sound very bad. I prefer to use it directly into a DI box, but it can also be run straight into a power amp with good results.
I'm in the process of modifying this particular pedal, and converting it to a rack mount distortion, to better fit my recording process.

theremin update: i can now produce recognisable melodies, albeit with a lot of mistakes, and have begun tentatively turning down the pitch corrector. i am struggling with leaps (that is, jumping rapidly between high and low notes). i imagine it's similar to playing the harp, except i've got no visual cue and pretty much have to guess at where the next note is - and it's made more challenging by how sharp and decisive my movements have to be, to avoid the sliding sound of my hand going up the scale. i guess at this point it's all about building muscle memory? i've also looked up a couple of tutorials and found that i am absolutely not using the right finger technique (be quiet), so that's something i'll need to get to grips with at some point. but it's good i'm having fun :-)

OOC post for a sec: I hope the anon who sent me the motor carriage ask yesterday understands what they've done to me. I've been researching cars for the last four hours and I think I might have to invent a brand new steering system just to explain how the Kineema works

haiiii :3 another little thang i been working on!!
sorry for posting incredibly inconsistently, my inspiration is rather elusive :/
also i think this guitar i'm using in the video is maybe my second best sounding one. i love this harmony so much, though my best is my white jazzmaster (maybe partially for sentimental reasons). that one will be featured in another post shortly!!
