One of the stars of Looking, Daniel Franzese, has joined calls for a reboot of the HBO series.
The actor, who played Eddie and is also known for his iconic role as Damien in 2004’s Mean Girls, spoke to Attitude at RuPaul’s DragCon UK on Saturday (13 January).
Noting that 2024 marks 10 years since Looking debuted (the first episode aired on 19 January 2014) Franzese commented on hopes for a reboot. “We’re all pushing on that,” he told us.
“We love each other,” he continued. “It’s an amazing group of people. Everybody on that show was an actor’s actor. We love to rehearse. We love to talk about our characters and plot points and really work on the project.
“If they ever wanted to do another movie, I’m pretty sure all of us would be down.”
The actor shared that he and Looking co-star Frankie J. Alvarez, who played Agustín, had recently seen Jonathan Groff, who played Patrick, on Broadway in Merrily We Roll Along. The three appear to have discussed Looking then.
“We all talked about it,” Franzese said. “We would love to do something again. Who knows? Murray Bartlett now is really huge. Everyone’s doing great. So, it’s a great time to get us all together. I think most of us are free once Jonathan’s out of that show. So get with it HBO.”
Franzese’s remarks follow those of Russell Tovey, who played Kevin. He told Attitude last October he had “begged” Looking creator Andrew Haigh to bring the show back. “He didn’t seem completely closed off to it so who knows?” said Tovey who then added: “I would jump at the chance.” Tovey also said now would be a “perfect” time to bring Looking back.

The Last of Us
Based upon the acclaimed video game, Joel and Ellie, a pair connected through the harshness of the world they live in, are forced to endure brutal circumstances and ruthless killers on their trek across a post-outbreak America.
When an adaptation of The Last of Us was announced, I was really excited, while also nervous. Out of all the video games in the world, The Last of Us would be one of the easier ones to adapt given it's a narrative-focused game, rather than world-focused. So, it was safe to say the story was one that could easily be adapted. However, my conscious was also nervous, given Hollywood's constant use of nostalgia to fill in the gaps in their stories. While at the same time, insulting the source material. Finally, the day arrived, and after the series was complete it both confirmed my hopes and fears. HBO The Last of Us is a fantastic adaptation of the game that is able to stand on its own two feet. However, though it does not insult the source material, the show does heavily rely on the game's nostalgia to fill in all the gaps.
As an adaption, The Last of Us succeeds for the most part. The show nails the theme of cordyceps are horrifying, but the real monster is humanity. While at the same time, masterfully handles this theme while also nurturing the theme of human connection. The story is compelling and the characters are mostly fleshed out. The horror elements are terrifying. Whether it's a mob of infected, or cannibals, the horror shown here is outstanding. However, the element that was surprisingly missing, was the father-daughter relationship between Joel and Ellie. Their relationship is grossly underdeveloped and relies heavily on the game to fill it in. It was surprising to see all other relationships being properly developed, while the heart of the game was left in the dust. There were two full episodes showcasing the relationships of others, while none was given to Joel and Ellie. Thus causing their relationship to feel rushed, and the season-ending to feel unearned.
The actors in this show had big shoes to fill, and for the most part, they succeed. Pedro Pascal is Joel. He nails Joel's deminer, while also making the character his own. He masterfully shows the lost hope of humanity within Joel being kindled again. Don't be surprised if he gets an Emmy nomination this year. However, the same could not be said about Bella Ramsey. At some points in the show, she does nail Ellie, especially on the darker side of the spectrum of the character. However, she comes across as too snarky, rather than someone who is using comedy to defect their inner turmoil. With that stated, her performances by herself it fantastic, but she is not really Ellie. Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett give easily some of the most moving performances of the show, which is going to generate some Emmy buzz. Scott Shepherd gives a horrifying performance, easily worthy of Emmy awards. Overall, the casting department did a fantastic job here.
As with all HBO shows, the production is absolutely fantastic. The infected look amazing here. They are both horrifying and beautiful to look at. The production value nails both a beautiful and desolate post-apocalyptic world. With was great to hear Gustavo Santaolalla score again.
Overall, The Last of Us is a great show, that is a good adaption of the iconic video game. However, it greatly neglects the heart of the game, thus causing the main driving factor within the show to fall apart. Furthermore, there was a surprising lack of zombies in the show. They were only in three episodes, and I wanted more.
I am giving, The Last of Us, a B+.
