¿Cómo está tu hija, eh?
summary:
Peter goes for a sandwich to the best deli in Queens but instead of Mr Delmar, he meets his daughter.

It was almost lunchtime when the last bell rang at school and you headed towards the exit, waving at your friends goodbye. As music started to invade your senses, you entered your father's shop, humming the tune.
"Hey dad!" You cheered, taking one earphone off.
"Cariño, here you are!" He smiled, wrapping you in a hug. "Listen. The guys and I have got to go pick up some stuff, we're almost out." He explained. "Will you be fine taking over for a couple of hours?"
"Sure. No problem." You nodded, placing your school bag near the counter and taking out a couple of books. "I've got homework for tomorrow anyway."
"Thank you so much mija. Love you." He shouted before calling the other employees and heading towards the door.
"Love you too!"
The next half hour was rather boring, only a couple of clients had came in and only got a can of soda each. One of them also got a number 3 without salad but with double cheese. You always tried to serve the clients with a kind smile making them feel welcomed, but a number 3 with double cheese and no salad? That couldn't be healthy.
You had a little time to study and catch up with some of the things you hadn't quite understood before the nearby schools would send their students home for the day, causing a massive sea of people to approach the shop, just like every other day.
Therefore, you decided that it would be for the best if you made yourself a sandwich and hand lunch before everyone arrived.
While you were in the making of your lunch, the bell connected to the door caught your attention.
"Hi Mr. Delmar! What- you're not Mr Delmar."
"Sorry to disappoint, dad's out for the day." You chuckled.
"N-no disappointment at all." He mumbled lowly. "I'm Peter." He smiled
"Hi Peter, how may I help you?" Your eyes were still locked with his. You started studying his features silently: the way his soft curls fell on his forehead, the movement his sharp jawline made as he talked, the sparkle in his deep brown eyes.
"May I have a number 5 with pickles, and can you smush it down real flat?"
"Coming right at you." You smiled kindly before turning around and starting to work on his request.
Silence fell into the room as you worked.
"So." You cleared your throat. "You go to Midtown, huh?"
"How do you-"
"Your hoodie." You chuckled lightly. "You must be a genius."
"I- I wouldn't say a genius." He scratched the back of his neck, too timid to admit the fact that he was well aware of his brains.
"That's a pity." You replied, wrapping the sandwich in the white paper bag. "I could use some help with science." You then turned around, handing him the little bag. "There you go." You smiled and grabbed the money he had already set on the counter. His face had gone a little redder than it was when he entered the shop, his eyes never left you.
"Thanks." He smiled shyly. "Say hi to Mr Delmar for me."
"Consider it done. See you around, Peter."
"Yeah. I'll see you around..."
"y/n."
"Even her name is pretty." He commented keeping his voice low, hoping that you wouldn't hear him (which you did).
You couldn't help but feel a smile creep to your cheeks, watching him leave the shop.
When your father finally came back the shop was empty of all the people that had started arriving soon after Peter had left.
"Dad, I want to talk to you about something." You say decisively once the two of you sit down for dinner in the small kitchen of your house.
"Qué pasa mija?" ("What is it?")
"You see...today was really fun at the shop, and I could use some extra money. I was wandering if you'd be okay if I took some shifts regularly."
"Why not, I could use some more help." He smiled, nodding his head at your request. "How about starting with once a week? School must remain your priority, you know that."
"Sounds great. Thank you so much!" You got up and ran to the other side of the table to hug him.

"Hey." Peter's surprised voice made you shoot your head up from your book.
"Hey, Peter." You greet, getting up to look at the boy from a better angle. Although, he looked extremely cute from every angle, frankly. "What can I get you today? The usual?"
"Yes please." He confirmed. You turned around and started working on the order again. Only this time Peter spoke first.
"Is your dad out again?" He frowned in confusion.
"Wow, don't be too eager to see me." You replied jokingly.
"No, no no no, it's not like that! I was actually hoping to run into you again." He confessed shyly.
"I work here now, this is my shift." You explained with your signature smile as you handed him the bag.
"Well, I know when to come from now on then." He smiled before walking towards the door again. "By the way, the answer is square root of 2."
"What?"
"The problem." He pointed at your open notebook on the counter. "It's square root of 2." He said before exiting the shop.
He must really be one of those geniuses.

For quite a while now Peter had become your regular client. He was kind enough to help you with homework if he happened to come by while you were having a hard time with maths or science.
You had become more comfortable with each other's company, whenever he was in the shop. He always teased you on how long it took you to make a sandwich, saying that he'd be able to do it in no time. Truth was, you did it on purpose to be able to talk to him for longer, and he actually didn't mind waiting at all. He quite enjoyed it, actually.
Your chitchats had gone way further than just polite small talk, to the point that you'd blush whenever he'd compliment your outfit or laugh at your silly jokes.
You had to admit it, you had a huge crush on the boy.

"Hey!" Peter entered the shop excitedly.
"Smushed number five with pickles coming your way." You shot up from your seat.
"Hey y/n?"
"Yes?"
"You're a girl."
"Thanks for the reminder, Pete." You giggled.
"No, I mean-" He took a deep breath. "There's this girl I really like. She's kind, sweet, funny and very pretty." He stopped abruptly before continuing again. "She's from my school. And I really want to ask her out but I've got no idea what girls like."
You'd lie if you said you didn't feel your heart fall at those words. You could've easily ruined it, telling him to do something stupid or rude, but he was the sweetest and kindest person you had ever met and if there was something you wanted for him was to be happy. It just wasn't meant to be.
"She sounds awesome." You commented, trying to hide the disappointment in your voice.
"She really is." He smiled goofily.
"Just tell her how you feel."
"I'm not the best with words actually."
"You know, sometimes actions can speak for you. For example, a letter can mean 'will you go out with me', or a flower can say 'I really like you'."
"A flower to say I like her a lot, got it. But what if-"
"Don't say it." You cut him off. "There's no way she won't like you back. Pete, you're amazing! She is lucky to even just know you. You go to a school of geniuses, there's no way she hasn't realized that."
The boy gave me a thankful nod along with a slight blush before grabbing the sandwich and thanking you.
He put his usual five dollars on the counter but this time you handed them back to him.
"It's on the house. Use them to buy her the prettiest flower you find."
"Thanks." He smiled widely. "I don't think I'll ever find a pretty enough flower for her."
"If I were you I'd get her a single red rose, it's my personal favorite. Nothing says 'I like you' better than that." You turned back to your homework as the boy nodded gratefully and headed to the door.
"I'll let you know how it goes." He said before leaving.
"If you really must." You whispered once you were alone in the shop.

The following week, you had a problem with the toaster and couldn't seem to be able to make it work. You had to call your dad, who arrived after just ten minutes.
"I've got to use the bathroom." You told your dad. "I'll be back in a minute." He simply nodded, not taking his gaze off the disassembled toaster.
"Hey y/- Mr Delmar?" Peter called surprised - and a little disappointed - as soon as he recognized the man's silhouette.
"Peter!" You father lifted his eyes to meet the boy's. "The usual?"
"Yes, thanks."
Your father motioned for his employee to get on it.
"It's been a while since you came here! What's with the flower?" He asked pointing at the wonderful red rose that the boy was holding.
"It's for a girl." He blushed shyly. "I hoped to meet her today."
"And how's your aunt?"
"She's alright."
"Oye." Mr Delmar said, turning towards his employee. "La tía de él es una mujer que está buenísima." (Basically, 'his aunt is hot')
"¿Cómo está tu hija, eh?" Peter asks with a grin, causing Mr Delmar's to fade.  ('And how's your daughter?')
"Ten dollars." The man affirms coldly.
"It's five dollars." Peter argued back.
"For that comment, it's ten dollars."
"No, it's not." You chime in, walking towards the counter.
"Oh, hey y/n." He blushes lightly, causing you to smile and your father to shoot a confused look to the both of you.
"Peter's a regular in my shift." You explained. "There you go." You handed the boy his food.
"Thanks." He smiled before putting the flower down on the counter in order to take the sandwich. He then started walking towards the door.
"Chico, wait!" Your father called, but it was too late since he had already left the shop. "He forgot his flower." He stated, turning towards you.
"I'll bring it to him." You offered, taking the flower in your hand and heading towards the door.
"Peter! Pete, wait!" You shouted, causing the boy to freeze for a second before turning around. "You forgot your flower." You informed him before handing him the gorgeous item.
"Oh, I-I didn't forget it." He smiled shyly locking his gaze with yours. "I just- delivered it."
