Lago Dilolo

faz quase oito dias que cheguei em Luena e não paro de pensar nos soldados ngangelas. Não é uma impressão, mas um exercício. É preciso anotar tudo antes que meus dias aterrissem no descampado da memória. Ontem à noite, perdeu-se mais um gravador com cerca de dez horas de entrevista, cantos e declamações. Faltam-me os nervos, mas por sorte, restam-me os cadernos e uma kodak descartável.  

Estou muito próximo do lago Dilolo, quase no extremo leste da província de Moxico, na bacia dos primeiros afluentes da margem direita do Zambeze. Aqui é conhecida a forte ondulação do Dilolo em dias de vento leste: hoje - uma "calema" capaz de virar qualquer dos "dongos" deslizantes à margem, tocados pacientemente à varas finas. Todo movimento brusco é permitido somente ao lago, que se exaspera, drapejante, rumoroso, com razão. De pé, o Dilolo às minhas barbas, sofro o abalo de uma onda de sono.

Tenho dormido mal. Sonho com duas esculturas ngangelas. Em meu sonho, eu fujo de mosaicos: nas minhas mãos, nas paredes da palhoça e no chão batido que piso. Antes de soldados, os ngangelas são grandes mosaístas. A primeira escultura, de madeira, é a cabeça de um peixe-mulher, ao longo de cujo pescoço trepa sua criança, escarificada de barro e cinza. Tem um metro e meio de altura e me fixa de um canto do quarto de dormir. A segunda é o mestre Tjiwako, que eu conheço do Rijks museum voor Volkenkunde, em Leiden, e cujos pés, sempre à beira do abismo, me lembram nosso pescador-guia.

Foi quando Tchingoma me puxou de lado para me apresentar o lago, que calculei estarmos no dia de natal. Tchingoma é jovem e, por mais aventureiro que seja, segue o conselho dos "mocoluanas". Jamais se afastar para além de onde se possa tocar o fundo com a vara. Estar sempre à margem. Dilolo, o lago, foi outrora uma aldeia. Inundada, o centro da aldeia hoje é uma tromba-d'água. 

Voltávamos então à margem para depois seguir à comuna. Tínhamos sede. No caminho, ouço um galo. Tchingoma canta baixinho "moio ióbe" e saúda o tecedor da manhã, como suponho, submerso. “O amanhã, já passou”, eu digo. Ele me olha. E dá de ombros, dos quais pende agora um cardume bronzeado de “missoges”.
