So I have this low-effort, lazy cosplay I threw together for Galaxy Con back in the spring. It's a black mesh back dress from Torrid, a black stretch crushed velvet cloak from my goth days in the early 00s, a headband with 3D printed feathery antennae velcroed to it, and red bug glasses. I dubbed it MothMa'am, because why not? Not sexy - not this person, I never feel sexy - but decidedly feminine. I didn't wear it long at Galaxy because the press of bodies gave me the heat death wiggins, so I was just running around in the dress for the majority of the day. I saw lots of Mothman STUFF, however, and that delighted me. I resurrected it for a little local con a week ago and the response I had was absolutely ASTOUNDING. I had folks coming up to me just to giggle. I acquired a plush I called my son and told people never to speak to me or my son again, with a cute flounce, and got CACKLES. There were two other Mothman-inspired costumes, as well, giving me all the delights. Mothmandalorian especially delighted me. Previous Me would never have conceived of the thing, let alone actually worn it in public. The dress hits just above my knee! I cannot reasonably wear a bra in it, and I won't be a walking pair of turn signals, so I needed to construct a KT tape bra for it! NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS would I have done this. Until now, until my ability to give a fuck about other people's thoughts truly melted away.

All this to say - it's rad to stop caring about what other people think. Do it when you're younger, so you have more time to enjoy it. Also Mothman's pretty rad.

oh man that sure is a Story, that is going to require some context for the campaign they're in;

our campaign centres around cryptids (who in this context are people hosting an alien that gives them the ability to shapeshift based on what they eat, which eventually culminates into a 'cryptid form', which is where a lot of well known cryptids - mothman, bigfoot, etc - come from, for this campaign. it also involves faeries! who are very much against the cryptids and want all of them Gone (mostly because the aliens can very much cause Damage, if one happens to infest an animal or the like, and the cryptids can be very powerful, but also because they're from outer space and the fae Don't Like That)

with that in mind, one of the player characters, willow, needed some training to help with their magic, so mothman (or mothma'am, in our campaign, otherwise known as cecilia) sent us on a road trip to new jersey.

we had to go out into one of the nearby forests to try and get the jersey devil (mike, we hate him i can't even begin to explain how much of a shitbag he is) to show up with a little ritual thing his ex-boyfriend (beau, he's the beast of bray road, everyone loves beau) did, and the way he showed up was by appearing out of the ether after having just been bodied by bellamy, who was very much in the process of thoroughly kicking his ass. bellamy works as a bounty hunter (and also twitch streamer. look at them.), and was tasked with hunting down mike because he broke parole. they agreed to let us keep him for a bit to teach willow (kind of, he didn't end up doing shit no matter how much we heckled him) magic, and ended up joining our group to help stop the impending apocalypse :>
