General

Name: V. Literally. It's always been just V.

Alias(ses): Enough people assume that V is an alias, and it's difficult enough to track down in a database. However. She will use other aliases for one-off jobs when she needs the extra layer of security of not having someone track her down through street work, but none of them really get recycled.

Gender: Nomad. I jest, but I'm pretty sure she's somewhat off the binary even if she straddles the line.

Age: As of the events of C77, she'd just turned 29.

Birthdate: I don't actually have one for her. Possibly in January... I'm only saying that because I started playing Cyberpunk on my birthday but that's when she came into creation so why not.

Place of birth: The Badlands. I'm not sure where in the Badlands, but probably quite the distance from Night City.

Hometown: She grew up in a roving band of self-sufficient scavengers, so... everywhere. And nowhere.

Spoken languages: English. Bad English. She might've picked up a few scattered words of other languages, but she relies heavily on her translation software and that reliance has stunted her learning.

Sexual preference: Ladies and gentlemen, and Jackie Welles. She's not picky on the sex or gender front, but someone who can keep up with her, ideally.

Occupation: Street Ronin. Mercenary for hire.

Appearance

Eye color: Mid-light purple. Dark brown, prior to getting modded.

Hair color: Blue and red, although she'll change it from time to time. Black, prior to getting modded.

Height: 5'8"

Scars: She has a few. The healed slash on her face comes from her first real knife fight, and she keeps it as something of a memento. There are some newer scars on her hands. And let's not talk about that mess of scar tissue that is her heart, because ow.

Favorite

Color: I think she probably likes pink, red, blue, and teal about equally.

Hair color: Barring mods, probably dark.

Eye color: Sky blue.

Song: Favorite in the same way that pain makes you feel alive, I think, but post-Heist, she found a new appreciation for Never Fade Away.

Food: Marshmallows. City takeout, especially pizza.

Non-alcoholic drink: Soda, the sweeter the better.

Alcoholic drink: Nomad moonshine, but tequila can be fun. And then there's vodka.

Have they...

Passed university: Fuck, no.

Had sex: Fuck, yes.

Had sex in public: ...I mean. Not on the Main St. Sidewalk, but I'm... pretty sure there wasn't as much privacy in all those back alley trysts as you might want to believe. Also, do orgies and sex clubs count as public? ‘cause, uh...

Gotten pregnant: Nope. Cyborg birth control ftw!

Kissed a boy: Yes.

Kissed a girl: Yes.

Gotten tattoos: Several. All traditional, none of them are Light tattoos.

Gotten piercings: A few in her ears, the nosering, and the eyebrow thing.

Been in love: Yes. Not until she reached Night City, but then she kinda made up for it by falling in love a few times over the course of the game.

Stayed up for more than 24 hours: Pretty regularly, for business and for pleasure.

Are they...

A virgin: Ha. No.

A cuddler: Very much so. Even before the love part, she was always very tactile. (It confused the hell out of Jackie until he just accepted that being her best friend and go-to fling was about as intimate as some relationships he'd been in... prior to feelings coming to light, anyway.)

A kisser: Indeed.

Scared easily: In some ways, not so much others. On her own, she's pretty reckless and fearless. When she has people she cares about, she can fairly easily get scared of fucking up the relationship and also of outside harm coming to them if and when these things crop up on the horizon. However, it pretty much took coming face to face with death in a way she couldn't shrug off before she actually got traumatized to the point of being terrified.

Jealous easily: Under the right circumstances. She's less jealous of physical activity and closeness and more when it comes to feelings.

Trustworthy: She can lie and she can twist the truth, and she has no scruples against doing either. But when it boils down to it, if she's on your side she will have your back to the last cliff at the end of the world.

Dominant: She certainly can be. She can be hard-headed and stubborn, to add to it, and she has no second thoughts about stepping up and taking charge. Though if we're talking about in bed, she's drastically less so.

Submissive: To whom is the bigger question. If she likes someone, she tends to be a lot gentler and tries to be considerate. And again, if we're talking about in bed, well... yes. Pushy about it sometimes, maybe, but yes.

In love: Ha. Hahaha. Yes. With quite a few people.

Single: It's complicated (TM).

Random questions (tw for self harm/suicide mention)

Have they harmed themselves: In a manner of speaking. It's not a conscious/deliberate thing, the way most people think of self-harm, but she falls into plenty of behaviors that would qualify and definitely puts herself out there in harms way or restricts herself as a means of self-punishment.

Thought of suicide: Yes. Quite a bit, after the Heist.

Attempted suicide: Again, not in a conscious or deliberate way, but more of a sarcastic 'wouldn't it be a shame if these dangerous behavior patterns happened to have consequences' way.

Wanted to kill someone: Quite a bit! And has!

Have/had a job: Very many!

Have any fears: Losing the people she cares about, to negligence or outside influence. Not making any lasting impact. Dying, after viewing that BD, and double after reliving Johnny's memories, and triple actually doing it once or twice.

Family

Siblings: To her knowledge, she's an only child. It's plausible that her mother remarried after leaving the clan.

Parents: Her father is a Nomad. Her mother is City, though V never knew which city. She's not in contact with either. And so far, I haven't given them names.

Children: None and she's a little terrified of the idea. Not that she couldn't eventually change her mind - she never thought she'd be in love, either.

Significant other: Jackie. Misty. Arguably Panam and River. Saul and Placide she kinda wishes. Johnny she kinda wishes not, but they share a brain and that's pretty significant even if not in any traditional relationship sense.

Pets: One (1) sphinx cat she found and picked up that was hiding in the alleys of her MegaBuilding.

Halloween Bash

Alex sat next to John glaring into the crowd at the annual Halloween Bash Alfred held every year. It was ridiculous and full of people Alex knew Alfred never once spoke to in his long life and a multitude of nations he didn’t even like.

“Would you stop giving the death stare? You look like you’re about to go pillage a village there, Mr Pirate,” John commented as he tied back his long hair.

Alex snorted and sat back. “I don’t know why I even come to this stupid thing. I don’t even have a date.”

“First of all, you come because it’s always held in your city. Second, you never bring a date because you’re so damn hung up on a dumb 400 year old crush. You always end up getting too drunk to function and go home with me. It happens the same every year.”

“Okay that happened once! And I’m not hung up on a dumb crush. I got over that in the 1860s.”

“Sure you did since you’re staring at Thomas right now.”

Alex hadn’t actually realized that’s exactly who he’d been staring at. Though it didn’t matter that John was the one that noticed. John always noticed. Thomas never did. Currently he was too wrapped up in doing shots with Scott, giving the state of Maryland a much too explicit kiss between every one. Their dumb tradition of doing whiskey shots at every party they went to hadn’t gotten old for them yet.

“I hadn’t meant to stare at him in particular.”

“Well you’re still doing it. You’ve missed how West Virginia appears to have struck another deal with old Russia. Or that Northeast and South disappeared out the front door a half hour ago. Oh look! They came back! Ben’s lion ears are crooked. Oh and you missed Alfred somehow getting stuffy old England in tights again. When are you gonna wear tights to this thing?”

“Would you shut up already? Why are you so observant?”

“Lots of practice people watching my dude. Discrete staring. You should learn how to do it sometime so you don’t look like a kicked puppy every time Scott even says a word to Thomas.”

Alex snorted.

“You know Alex, you really gotta move on. They’ve been together forever. Almost 200 years now. That’s half our lives. You gotta face it. It’s not gonna change.”

Alex sighed and leaned his head against his hand, knocking his pirate hat crooked. “Yeah I know. I tried once. Back before the Constitution. It was just the two of us for a while. I tried and he turned me down like I was a beggar asking for loose coins. He was torn up about Scott. Yeah he was hurt bad but that’s what war does. He couldn’t tear himself away from that. I think he loved Scott way before we even fought for independence. There’s nobody else for Thomas. If he was given a million chances to redo everything he’d pick Scott every single time.”

“If you know that why do you still hang on to that hope? There’s billions of people out there. There’s forty six other states to choose from. There’s states closer to you. I’m pretty sure Marianne is single. So is Emma and Owen. Not to mention all the Midwest. I’m pretty sure the rest of the northeast is single as fuck. Not counting Ben he’s super married and I’d like to see you try and put moves on him. You’ll take a rifle to the face like Thomas did.”

“Emma doesn’t like men first of all. Second of all Owen is a little...different. Marianne won’t give me the time of day.”

“You have a thing for Thomas but not his brother who is just like him in a hell of a lot of ways. The three of those guys look exactly alike. They all have the same freckles and everything.”

“Thomas has different colored eyes than his siblings. They’re a different blue. And Emma has more freckles than her brothers.”

“Dude get a grip. You gotta move on.”

“And don’t you think it’s fucked up to try and get with the siblings of the guy I like and his sister in law.”

“Well they aren’t married so Marianne is probably free game. Shit if you don’t make the moves on her or me tonight I might go after her myself.”

“I’m not making any moves on you, dick.”

“You don’t say that when you’re down on the Shore rolling in the sand with me.”

“SHUT UP!” Alex snapped. He settled and thought for a second. “Wait did you say Thomas and Scott aren’t married?”

John modded. “Yeah I talked to Scott last summer when we were trading ideas on how to make our boardwalks better than Florida’s. He said they don’t wanna get married. They’re afraid of the political issues. You know it’s always a mess in that area when it comes to politics with DC right there and all that.”

“You’d think sharing land for DC would make them getting married make more sense.”

“Nah. Most of the city is on Maryland land. Jefferson made that decision. Honestly I think that helped us out a bit more in the war, locking Maryland down. Kept the city on our side.”

“Not even that war could tear them apart…”

“Well look what it did to Ben and Eli. If it did anything it unified the coast.”

Before Alex could speak, Thomas sat heavily across from them. “What’s up? You guys seem bored.”

Alex fought the urge to perk up. “Where’s Scott?”

Thomas spun the glass jar he’d brought with him on the table. “He went to talk to his sister after Emma challenged me to drink a whole jar of her deadly moonshine.”

“Did you win?” John asked, leaning back in his chair.

“Of course not. Nobody beats Emma in a moonshine drinking contest.”

Alex fiddled with his sleeve. “What was she talking to Russia about?”

“Getting her roads fixed or some shit. Her government won’t do it so she’s going to Russia to see if he’ll help. He tried to once in the 60s but Alfred blocked it and her government took over and actually did it.”

John waved at one of the waiters wandering around the party for a drink of his own. “Don’t you make it hard for her to fix her highways since you won’t get your ass in gear?”

Thomas rolled his eyes. “She hasn’t sent me a proposal yet. She’s working with Scott right now.”

“So he’s the one dragging ass.”

“Your roads haven’t changed since 1776 so shut your mouth, Jersey Shore.”

Scott appeared for long enough to give Thomas a big sloppy kiss that went on too long before disappearing again, his squirrel tail for his costume bouncing behind him as he went. Thomas watched him go almost in a daze. Alex turned his head away while John made gagging noises.

“You guys are gross,” John commented.

“I’m way too drunk to give a shit what you think,” Thomas replied, still watching Scott try to get Emma to dance to something that was very much not country.

“What did you come over here for anyway? To flaunt that we’re single and you’re not?” Alex asked, glaring over at Thomas.

“Are you still hung up on me? Move on already. I hear you sleep with Ol Jersey enough to make it official,” Thomas snapped, turning steady blue eyes on Alex.

Alex snorted. “Want another hole in your mouth? Seems you didn’t learn your lesson the first time.”

Thomas narrowed his eyes at Alex. “First of all, mind your damn business. Second, Id like to see you try. You couldn’t hit the broadside of a ship with a musket back during the Revolution.”

Alex’s face heated. “Shut up Thomas! You don’t know what you’re talking about.” He stood up and grabbed John by the collar of his shirt and yanked him after him. “I think I’m done with this family get together.”

Thomas simply snorted and stood up himself. “Seems the rumors are right. You always leave this party with Johnny Boy.”

Before Alex could snap back, Thomas had already strutted away. He joined Scott and wrapped his arms around him to sway to the music. Alex spun back toward the door and hauled John after him.

Braid guitarist and vocalist Chris Broach and the Firebird Band's Steve Znavor have teamed up to form Sunset. "Maybe We've Got It" is the premiere track from their upcoming debut album Turn Out The Lights. Broach formed the Firebird Band in the '90s following one of Braid's breakups, and after some focus on the band Life at Sea, he and Znavor are embarking to their latest project: Sunset. The newest track, "Maybe We've Got It," features what Broach describes as "cool animations" and a mix of people - including Braid vocalist Bob Nanna - to fulfill the song's purpose of pursuing what you love.

Goths, The Mountain Goats' 16th studio album, will be released in May, but they've released the first single early, "Andrew Eldritch is Moving Back To Leeds". Here's band member, John Darnielle commenting on the track:

"This song began its life on a 1973 Guild while I was at the beach a couple of summers back; I wrote the first verse and the chorus and then I put it away. In the darkness of my desk-drawer it gathered strength and plotted its return to the surface. I revisited it after I’d decided to not have any guitars on the next album, and finished writing it on the piano, which accounts for the mild McCartneyisms of the changes in the bridge, which are things I can’t really do on a guitar. In the lyric, I imagine one of my teenage heroes, Andrew Eldritch, returning to the town where the band worked and played when they were young. His friends give him a hard time about ending up back where he started, but not because they’re mad: it’s good to see an old friend wearing the marks of time on his hands and face like well-loved tattoos. So shall it be in these times: your sons and your daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions, and Andrew Eldritch, whose music has reached spirits in every corner of the globe, will move back to Leeds."

Mentor Matt Epp and Young Performer Faouzia collaborated on a new song “The Sound”.

Every year the Winnipeg Folk Festival presents the Stingray Young Performers Program during the weekend of the festival. Budding musicians from across Canada and the U.S. spend the first day with mentors, chosen from the festival line up, writing and working on their songs and on the second day the participants perform for the festival audience at the Shady Grove stage.

During the 2016 festival, Winnipeg-based musician Matt Epp accepted the offer to be a mentor. “I've always had a special interest in discovering new artists and seeing the advancement of the next line of songwriters and performers,” said Epp.

Epp didn’t know he’d find a new collaboration when he met 16-year-old singer/songwriter, Faouzia who was taking part in the program looking to hone her skills. Faouzia was born in Morocco and raised in the rural town of Carman, Manitoba.

“I got to sit down and hear everyone share their stories and hear them play their songs which only made me realize how rich and diverse the musical world is,” said Faouzia. “I also learned a lot more about the business side of the music industry and I got to hear agents speak about how to contact those that will get you further in your career and strategies to do so as well.”

Mod-wop quartet Louie Louie released their Friend of a Stranger LP last month, their debut effort. This Philly based band blasts listeners with classic Phil Spector-era guitar riffs juxtaposed to Emily Robb’s staccato vocals. It’s that play between “cute” arrangements and accents and punk-influenced delivery that makes Louie Louie songs so catchy. I swear this is a new song.

Maria Taylor is probably still best known as one-half of Azure Ray, but as a solo artist, she has released a string of reliably great solo albums. Like much of the rest of her discography, “In The Next Life” is a compact, endearing set of songs that gain more depth with repetition. It may often be on the quiet side, but this album resonates.

The Crossing feat. Caroline Shaw :: "To the Hands: No. 6. I Will Hold You" :: @caroshawmusic :: New Album Seven Responses out now

The concept of The Crossing’s latest offering, Seven Responses, sounds creepy to many modern people. In 1680, the great Baroque composer Dietrich Buxtehude composed seven cantatas addressed to the parts of Christ’s body that were centers of pain during the crucifixion. The Crossing’s conductor, Donald Nally, commissioned seven responses to Buxtehude’s cantatas, by seven different composers. Each composer took a different body part, starting with the feet and moving through the knees and side to the face.

Caroline Shaw, the Pulitzer-winning composer, singer and violinist, closes the suite with "i will hold you," a movement of beauty and solace, stillness and swells of interlocking choral parts, all propelled by softly plucked strings.

Near the end, she quotes Buxtehude's tender refrain, "In media manuum tuarum" (In your hands). With the words "I will hold you" repeating, the song acts as musical balm for suffering. If we're in pain, no matter whom we are or what our religious convictions might be, we all need to be held tightly.

"They could be the words of Christ," Shaw writes in the booklet notes, "or of a parent or friend or lover, or even a nation."
