@febuwhump Day 12: "Can you hear me?”
Fandom: Dragon Age Whumpee:  Female Lavellan
Summary: Lavellan falls off the roof of a building while pranking with the Friends of Red Jenny. Fortunately, it initiates a meetcute.

~~*———————————————*~~
Miriel had lost count of the hours she had been awake. Her work with the Friends of Red Jenny had been far more hands-on than she had anticipated, given her diminished responsibilities within the Inquisition, and she certainly hadn’t planned on spending all her waking hours chasing dead-end sightings and rumours of Solas’ movements.
Still, in the three years since the Divine Conclave she had grown accustomed to it all. At times she could almost fool herself she wasn’t sick, able to mask the pain and fatigue she had always felt even from herself from time to time. Being a Jenny was a welcome distraction from the world-ending danger she always seemed to be facing.
The problem, however, with ignoring a sickness was that it tended to remind you of its existence at the worst possible moment. Not moments after the pink paint poured from the rooftop onto the head of another masked noble than Miriel’s legs had shaken and given way. She toppled and failed to catch herself in time, landing heavily on a balcony below, and the world faded.
“Inky? Can you hear me?”
The voice was unfamiliar; a low rumble that pierced directly into her chest. Miriel slowly opened her eyes, wincing as several jolts of pain hit at once from varying parts of her body. She automatically reached for her left hand, only to sigh and flop back down when she remembered it was no longer there.
Her arms hurt. Her legs hurt. Her back hurt. She was fairly certain she needed a healer. Instead, she eyed the concerned face above her. Another elf gazed down at her with narrow hazel-gold eyes, greenish-white vallaslin adorning her brown skin like fade-touched serpentstone. The marks were of Falon’Din, she realised with a tinge of sadness.
“Only Sera gets to call me that,” Miriel managed eventually, the act of speaking shooting pain through her chest that had her choking on her own words.
“Apologies, ma’am,” the stranger hummed, her voice holding a similar Ferelden roughness to that of Sera, though flatter like Cullen’s. “Keep still, I’ll heal you.”
A mage? Miriel groaned with equal parts pain and relief as the familiar tingle of magic filled her body, feeling muscle and bone pull back together and her back crack into place. The relief was almost enough to knock her back out, but she forced herself to stay awake; though made no efforts to move.
“There, that should help. Sera warned us you were reckless with your health but I don’t think anyone expected you to take a nosedive off the roof like that.” Offering her a hand, she pulled her to her feet with a surprising strength Miriel hadn’t been expecting. “Nice to finally meet you though. I’m Adris, by the way. Or just Sabrae if you want.”
“Sabrae?” Miriel quirked a brow, recognising the clan name from both her books and Varric’s tales of the Champion. “You’re a Marcher?”
“Nah,” she hummed, “I’d only just got my Vallaslin when the clan moved north, barely more than a child. Decided I’d rather take my chances with the Blight than follow my clan across the Waking Sea.”
There was more to it than she was letting on, Miriel could tell. It explained her accent at least. “And now you’re a Jenny.”
Adris shrugged, “It’s fun, and it makes a difference in little ways. What’s not to love? Besides falling of rooves.”
“I’m never going to hear the end of that, am I?”
“Nope.” Adris grinned a wide, toothy grin and Miriel found herself smiling back despite herself. When was the last time she’d made a new friend, truly? “So. Gonna let me take you home or are you too big for that, Herald?”
Miriel grimaced at the title, “Just Miriel, please.”
“Apologies, your holiness~”
Oh, she was going to hit this elf before long, she just knew it.

1-5, 10-14 for Elodie, Katya, and Miriel?
Under the cut for length!
1. What would your Warden generally think of your Hawke and your inquisitor?
Elodie would be a little jealous of Katra first. Katra’s parents didn’t disown her, call the Templars on her when her magic manifested, she didn’t have to develop the kind of control Elodie did to just survive. At the same time, she would feel bad about being jealous and would counteract this by being overly nice to Katra.
Elodie and Miriel get along well. They have very similar views to leading - Do what you can where you can, and sometimes you can’t fix everything. Miriel is more optimistic overall, though, and while Elodie finds the optimism admirable, she also worries. Optimists break easier than pessimists.
2. What would your Hawke generally think of your warden and your Inquisitor?
Katra is a magpie for the outcasts and the lonely, she is very free with her affections and makes friends easily. She and Miriel are fast friends, they drink together, have very similar views on the Chantry and generally bond over how fucked up the world is.
Katra finds Elodie to be terrifying. In the good way. Here is this mage who has managed to break free of the Circle, slay and Archdemon and live, she saved a country from civil war, and is the Mistress to the King of Ferelden and Co-Mother to the heir apparent to the Ferelden throne. She is one of the most powerful mages in southern Thedas and dammit if she isn’t just the nicest person. Elodie is selfless and kind and brilliant and so oblivious to how intimidating she is. Katra is in awe of her a bit.
3. What would your Inquisitor generally think of your warden and your Hawke?
Miriel finds Katra to be loads of fun. Miriel loves hanging out with her and talking about the trials and tribulations of having the weight of other people’s lives depend on them. But Katra also concerns Miriel because of some behaviors. Katra self-medicates with alcohol a lot, she struggles with addiction and she naturally has Major Depression and her situation does not help her at all. Miriel worries if this is her future.
Miriel finds Elodie to be inspiring. Just, wow. Look at this person who has overcome so much and is now doing so much. Elodie is a hero to all, there are stories of her everywhere. The Hero of Ferelden. Miriel feels a bit like an imposter in Elodie’s shadow, like here is the REAL DEAL. She’s just a Dalish girl from the Free Marches.
4.What would they think about each other’s love interests (if they romanced someone of course)
Katra likes Alistair! A good Ferelden man! At last! But she is less sure of Solas. She finds him to be fishy. But she wants to support Miriel, Maker knows she needed support when she went back to Fenris.
Miriel understands and is sympathetic towards Fenris. She finds him to be very attractive but he is otherwise not her type. She likes how he grounds Katra and helps her feel loved. Miriel also likes Alistiar...for a human man. Miriel in general is very very wary of human men, but Alistair seems like a good one.
Elodie feels bad for Fenris. She finds his story to be abhorrent but she also avoids him because she is probably the closest thing to a Magister in southern Thedas, so she gives him space. (She really isn’t but she is an overthinker). Elodie and Solas get along like gangbusters. They talk about spirits and magical theory for HOURS. She specializes in spirit healing and magic and it is so rare for her to be able to nerd out with someone like this.
5.Is your inquisitor jealous that both the warden and Hawke have a mabari hound?
Not really no. Miriel isn’t a dog person per se, she isn’t against them by any means, but she doesn’t feel like she is lacking anything without them. She has her harts!!
10.Do your protagonists share the same opinions on the Chantry?
Elodie and Katra have the closest views on the Chantry. They are both Andrastian, but they feel like the Chantry has strayed too far. It does not help people, not truly anymore. It is a self-serving festering machine. It breeds hate and intolerance from anyone deemed deviant. This knowledge breeds a deep sorrow in them, because they do believe or want to believe. Elodie in particular wants to believe in the good, but she isn’t sure she can anymore. Katra stopped believing in the good of the Chantry when Meredith turned against all mages after Anders blew up the Chantry.
Miriel hates the Chantry. Actively and without any complications hates the Chantry. It is the source of so much anguish for the Dalish. It sends Templars to harass and massacre her people, steal and torture their mages in their Circles then feed them propaganda about the Dalish only allowing 3 mages per clan (FIGHT ME). Not to mention the Chantry is the one that lead the exalted march against her people in the Dales. Loss of life is unfortunate, but if she could completely dismantle the Chantry, she would in a heartbeat.
11.Do your protagonists share the same opinions on mages rights?
Yep! They are very firmly pro-mages rights.
12. Do your protagonists share the same opinions on blood magic?
Elodie is ambivalent towards blood magic. She sees it as a tool like any other magic. She feels like most of the malice towards blood magic is Chantry propaganda.
Katra does not like blood magic. It makes her think of her mother and her death and everything that went down in Kirkwall. She sees what it did to Fenris and she just...nothing that can do that much harm can be good in her mind. She loves Merrill but she strongly disagrees with her use of blood magic.
Miriel is wary of blood magic. She isn’t a mage herself so it’s hard for her to have a firm opinion on it. She has seen blood magic used in good ways in her clan, but she also knows that the Tevinter mages use it and that can’t be good. She does worry about its capabilities however.
13. Do your protagonists share the same opinions on The Game?
Miriel finds the Game exhausting, overly complicated, and a disgusting display of wealth and power. They could use all this wealth and ability to actually help people but no, these stupid petty shemlen would rather dress up and play games with each other.
Katra finds the Game to be hilarious. These Orlesian nobles are idiots and she enjoys making them all love her and then shame them for their stupidity.
Elodie has zero patience for the Game. She isn’t good at it, she doesn’t care to be good at it. She could be quite good at it if she tried but she doesn’t see the point. She will take polite honesty over word games any day.
14.If they’d been in each other’s places would they have made the same or different choices? And who would they have romanced, if anyone?
Biggest difference is neither Elodie nor Katra would drink from the Well of Sorrows.
Miriel would feel more conflicted over the werewolves and the Dalish in the Brecellien forest. She would completely understand Zathrian’s rage but she would disagree so much about allowing him to continue to allow a curse that can be transmitted to people who were not at fault. She would cure the werewolves and then kill them. That’s not a real option but it’s what she’d do. She would romance Zevran. But other than that, they would make the same decisions.
As the Champion, Miriel would probably go for Merrill. Miriel and Merrill. Oh god. She would be so. mad. at Aveline at how she allows elves to be treated in Kirkwall.
Elodie as Inquisitor would be amazing and terrifying. She would command soooo much power. She would reunite Briala and Celene though, instead of having Briala rule through Gaspard.
I can’t see Elodie romancing Cullen, which I mention specifically because of the whole history there. I think she’d go for Solas to be honest. She would find his intellect and perspective absolutely fascinating, she would take him everywhere to just talk to him. She has nerdboner for him.
As the Champion, Elodie wouldn’t romance anyone. She would see Anders as her patient and friend, not as a romantic possibility and no one else is really her type. Fenris hates mages while Katra can look past that (due to some pretty bad self-image issues), Elodie can’t. But Isabela and Merrill are just friends to her as well. She’d potentially hook up with Isabela though.
Katra would not handle the pressure as warden or inquisitor well at all. She would hate having to make so many important decisions and would constantly be fighting with herself whether or not she should run. Choice wise, she would unite Gaspard, Briala, and Celene to work together. As Warden, she’d make Alistair king but she would probably end up alienating Anora (which Elodie doesn’t do, she has Alistair and Anora marry and then remains as Alistair’s mistress, I have a whole complicated thing about it too). She’d make Cole more human, not kill Flemeth (Miriel also wouldn’t kill Flemeth, her people have stories about Ashabellanar, this is a bad move Morrigan). Katra would romance Bull soooo fast. So fast. But she wouldn’t romance anyone from Origins, none of them are her type.
Thanks for the ask!

{ Fe13 Holy Blood Theory}
{ ooc. Please note that this is in no way insisting that the following theory is absolutely canon-- rather, it's more just lacing together an idea from bits and pieces scattered around fe13 and fe4/5. After all, that's what a theory is-- a proposed idea for something which has no explanation.
Am I going to add any of this to my blog? Probably not, unless people ask me to do it. Put the pitchforks down, okay-
Got it? Great! This is 2303 words long, so I hope you’re ready. }
Fire emblem awakening, throughout the entire game, including its dlc, makes many references to Jugdral, whether it be through a few lines in support conversations, spotpass, lines in dlc maps, deadlords, weapons such as Sigurd's lance, or the inclusion of the holy weapons themselves. In fact, one of the characters, and their children by extension, is almost explicitly stated to be a descendant of one of fe4's protagonists, and the game implies that several holy bloodlines have made it into the continent of Ylisse, albeit these points will surface later. The theory proposed in this post is that Robin from fe13 is, in fact, a descendant of the Fala bloodline--specifically, of Saias/Cyas from fe5. Of course, he wouldn't have major blood-- that would be impossible--, but instead has minor.
The first, and probably most obvious point is that both of these two are noted for their tactical brilliance, which, to some, immediately sparks the idea that the two characters might share some sort of connection, considering that their games fall on the same timeline, unlike fe7's tactician and Soren. Whist it is a slightly weak point, the reason behind mentioning this is that one was regarded as a tactician specifically, and one has an exclusive class  specific to their family line, as seen through how Robin's child(ren) are the only others who can canonically have access to the tactician and grandmaster classes. In fact, it is more than likely that Robin inherited their class from their mother, whom we can assume must have also held a position similar to them at some point, and that the people before them on that side of the family must have also been denoted in the same way, as classes more often than not signify what their occupation is. In the fire emblem universe, there are multiple examples of characters having families who follow the same career path generation after generation-- such as Anna's family, even going so far as to take on the same name, Miriel's mother, Miriel and Laurent all being mages pursuing logical explanations to everyday phenomenons, both Morgan's changing class to mimic the non-avatar parent, the generic 'from a line of powerful mages/mercenaries' description, and Chrom's entire family line from the first Exalt onwards. It could be very likely that part of Robin's family comes from a line of tacticians, and the earliest point on the timeline fe13 takes place which has someone being revered as a brilliant tactician is Saias, whose offspring probably would have been pressured into taking the same career path, as such a practice was common in the time period which fire emblem tends to base itself around loosely.
Not only this, but the skills learned in the tactician and grandmaster classes might also serve as a call-back to fe4/5's leadership stars-- solidarity and rally spectrum. The former grants adjacent units +10 crit and dodge, which closely mimics the 10% bonus to hit and evade every leadership star after the first grants units within three spaces in fe4/ 3% bonus to hit and evade for every leadership star after the first for every ally unit on the map in fe5. It is also worth noting that charm cannot be considered a reference to the leadership stars, as such a skill exists in fe4/5 with the same effects, and the tactician class, in itself, could be a nod to the mage fighter class, of which Velthomer had no shortage of.
For rally spectrum, however, it could be considered yet another call-back to leadership stars, in some round-about way due to how it increases all stats aside from movement in a three-tile radius, however the main reason as to why this skill might show a connection to Saias, and hence the Fala bloodline, is that out of all of the spotpass characters seen in awakening, only one unit has this skill, and possesses it on every map they appear in. That unit is Saias. No other spotpass character has rally spectrum, and both ignis and solidarity do not appear on any of spotpass characters. Other tacticians such as Soren, and non-apotheosis Katarina do not have rally spectrum either. Not only this, but rally spectrum is a skill canonically locked only to Robin and  their child(ren), which might indicate that Robin has some sort of connection, perhaps familial, to Saias, which leads on nicely to the next part.
The next piece of evidence which might indicate some sort of connection between the two characters is that in the dlc maps 'Rouges and Redeemers 1/2/3', male!Robin and Saias have exclusive conversations with one another.  Whilst nothing is said which might act as proof for being related-- the two only trash-talk one another a little, but acknowledge that they are both tacticians--, this is a deliberate move by the game designers, and people such as Chrom, Lucina and Lissa do get conversations with characters they are related to as well, such as Marth, and what might make sense later, Julia, Ethlyn, Seliph and Sigurd. It might also be worth it to note that female!Morgan gets conversations with Julia, who is obviously related to Arvis, and by extension, Saias.
The major question, then, would be how any sort of holy blood made it all the way to the continent of Ylisse in the first place, considering the fact that Jugdral is presumably quite far away. Luckily, there is solid evidence for certain holy bloodline having made it to Ylisse sometime after fe4/5, and the strongest bit of proof comes from Tiki and Male!Robin's B support, and by extension, Chrom, Lissa and Emmeryn even existing. In the conversation, Tiki claims that Chrom does not remind her of Marth, but instead another man from their line from one thousand years ago, around the time that she was born—‘Perhaps because Chrom is not like Marth. He is much more direct, and committed to what he believes is right. Chrom might more resemble a different ancestor, from the age I was born in. Another great man in their line, from 1000 years before Marth...’. Looking at the rough timeline of the series, the most likely candidate for this ancestor would be none other than Sigurd, and this would show that at least one bloodline has made it to Ylisse; the Baldur bloodline.
The next thing which hints to even more of the crusader bloodlines making it to the continent can be seen in fe13' Chapter 22, 'An Ill Presage'. In this chapter of the game, the enemy units, aside from Aversa, is made up of the deadlords, however it is unlikely that they are the same as the ones from fe4/5, but instead are sort of recreation of them. Out of the twelve, five wield holy weapons-- Equus with Gungnir, Tigris with Helswath, Draco with Yewfelle, Simia with Balmung, and Canis with, surprise, Valflame. If we are to believe that these 'deadlords' hold the real things with the seals still in effect, then that right there is not-so-living proof that, aside from Baldur, the Dain, Neir, Ulir, Odo, and Fala bloodlines have also made it into Ylisse.           One could also argue that the Hezul line has also made it into Valm, as Owain states to be looking for Mystletainn in his paralogue. Regardless, this leaves us with potentially seven of these bloodlines having descendants who live in Ylisse and/or Valm, and Fala is one of those whose lineage could theoretically still be present by the time fe13 happens.
So then, for this theory to have the slightest chance of being true, then why is Robin's hair white-- shouldn't it be some shade of red like a majority of those from the Fala bloodline? Not necessarily, and there are two reasons as to why Robin having his default hair colour still works with this theory, and does not debunk it.           The first is probably the most obvious one-- the time between fe4 and fe13 is around four thousand years; the chance of any descendant having the exact same traits as, say, Saias, Aida or Arvis is extremely small. Over that period of time, any later generation might move to different continents, and/or reproduce with someone who does not bear those same traits-- in fact, the trademark red hair could be lost in one generation, much like how we see the complete absence of curly hair in Julius, Julia, and Saias despite Arvis having hair like that, and in the former two cases, Deirdre as well. Let's also keep in mind that straight hair is recessive, and curly hair is dominant-- something which seems to apply to the Jugdral family trees--, so it isn't like this could be a one-off case. Much like that, the offspring of any descendant from a surviving member of the Fala bloodline could express a phenotype different to any specific ancestor.
If that does not appeal to you, however, and you think that assuming something like the aforementioned reason is a little too far-fetched, could be used to link anyone to someone else, or you believe that his hair colour has to come from the family line because game-logic, then there is another one which you can see for yourself. White hair does actually appear in the Fala bloodline, if only because of the fact that she mothered a major-blooded child. Cigyun, Arvis' mother, naturally has white hair. So how does this tie in with anything? By doing basic genetics, it becomes apparent that Arvis is a carrier for white hair, as he would have had to inherit one allele from his mother, and the man is able to produce Julia, who also has white hair. With Aida having the exact same shade of red hair her son has, it is also quite possible that Saias might have inherited the gene coding for white hair as well, and that explains how Robin’s hair colour could come from the Fala bloodline, as Saias might be capable of having a child with white hair, which could then be passed down.
The next piece, whilst being quite minor, is one that might not have any connection to the Fala bloodline, however, as you will be able to see in a moment, it does seem as though it could be. In fe13, Robin eventually learns the skill 'Ignis', however it is not the actual effect of this that raises any questions-- it is the name, its visual appearance, lineage, and the class that it comes from which do. The name is quite basic, literally meaning 'fire', and with every name given to this skill in other languages, the theme of the name is still the same-- 'blossoming flame', 'ignus', 'ignition', and 'Apolo'. These names also reflect the visual aspect of this skill, as, upon activation, the user is engulfed in bright orange fire and a pink glow, and when the attack hits the enemy, a burst of those same orange flames and pink flower petals erupts from the site of contact-- the fire's colour being more easily seen in fe14. The fact that this is a skill exclusive to Robin and any children they have, discounting fe14 as I highly doubt that dlc is canon, shows that this particular skill must be bound to one or both halves of his family tree.
But Isn't it just a skill connected to Grima? No.           If ignis was something tied to Grima, then we would have seen a skill akin to this-- aesthetically or otherwise-- on the 'Creation' in fe15 alongside anathema and dragonskin. Not only this, but you would imagine that this skill would be seen appearing in the fell bloodline, without anything else mixed in, however that is not the case either, as Validar does not possess ignis, and instead has dragonskin. Another thing to point out is that the tactician/grandmaster class is not connected to Validar either-- the cloak is Grimleal, yes, but if he was from that class originally, he would at least have something from the skills learnt in those two. So then, ignis is not connected to the fell bloodline or Grima, but is still bound to Robin's family line. The tactician/grandmaster class is something we can assume came from Robin’s mother, and the skills found in this line are also exclusive to Robin and their child(ren), strengthening the idea that the class is, like ignis, locked to their bloodline.
Another piece which might hint towards some sort of connection between Robin and the Fala bloodline can be found in the Cipher cards, albeit for obvious reasons, this might not mean much due to whether or not these cards are considered 'canon' material or not. Regardless, the cards for both Robins and both Morgans possess a support skill called 'tactician's emblem'. This is something which, aside from Soren, Yukimura and Naesala, only appears again on Julius' and Arvis' cards.           Again, it probably means nothing, but it could still be considered as some sort of 'hint' towards a connection between the characters. Depends on whether or not you consider that a valid source of information.
So, in short, we have Robin-- a tactician, presumably from a long line of them, with white hair, possessing a skill which is locked to their family but not Grima's blood, and utilises fire to boost an attack, another which mimics the effects of leadership stars slightly, and one which only ever appears on one spotpass character, whose bloodline might exist in Ylisse still, whom they have exclusive conversations with, and share the same profession.            There is ample evidence to suggest that the two characters have some sort of connection, and with the emphasis on genetics in both fe4 and fe13, it might be possible that Robin is a descendant of Saias, which would make him part of the Fala bloodline-- a minor carrier, in this case.
          But who knows?

Log R52: Worries in the Ward
A dimmed light looms through groggy eyes as Sepira awakens in a familiar room. Having spent time healing with the Conjurer’s guild, she’d spent more than enough time in the rooms reserved for patients designated to stay for at least a few days. Aches and pains shoot through her arms as she leans forward and scoots back to lean against the wall behind her. Sensing the movement, her sister turns her attention from the broken blade that held her attention and sheaths it.
A flashing image runs through her mind as Bianchi, blade in hand, attempts to break her wind wall and assail her. A moment’s panic draws her mind to reach for aether, but finds none. Bianchi’s gaze fixes on her, in question at the clearly confused look on her face. Again she reaches, but still to no avail, to grasp aether from within herself. Sepira’s eyes close as she breathes in, attempting to allow aether to flow back in unchecked, but immediately recoils as the fresh stream of aether runs like boiled water over her channels. Her body convulses at the sensation, the aether dissipating.
Bia opens her mouth to protest, seeing her sister’s composure change for the aetherflow, but too late. She sighs as Sep shudders at the action. “The Conjurers said you’re not allowed to use magic.”
We shall see about that. Again, she opens herself to aether, but in smaller quantities. A small trickle of aether runs through her fingertips, just enough to grasp, to warm them.
A swift knock comes from the doorway, followed by footsteps that for some reason don’t particularly care for a response before entering. Bia’s hand moves quickly to her intact dagger, but slides away as the familiar pair enters. Lacking his usual chain mail in favor of a patient’s gown, the Au ra grins down at the pair. A bandage runs up one arm and over his neck. “Glad to see you’re up! We’re just popping over from Zi’s room, apparently he always takes a few days to get through.” He laughs as Kankri trails into the room as well, several small bandages up and down his neck and cheeks. His face shows both embarrassment and a lack of amusement.
Another image runs through Sepira’s mind, of Ziharku pressed to her wind wall and the spray or red that filled her vision after. News that he’s still alive, at least, eases her conscience. Though how, she can only wonder.
The elementals wanted him dead just as much as moogle mog
“So uh...what’s with all the...bandages?” Bianchi stares blankly at Kankri. “Late costume for All Saint’s Wake?”
“They aren’t even covering anything…” the midlander grumbles, robes shifting as his foot kicks idly at the floor. “Cro just kept asking for them to put on me-
“I gasp. My love does not desire the healing and affection of his beloved. It wounds me. I need another band-aid. Put it on my chest for me Kanni.”
“You’re garbage.”
Cronus feigns pain again. “Ugh! Now I need two. Please...my...love...urk…” He clutches a hand to his stomach as he leans forward, taking a knee and grabbing at Kankri’s robe.
“Geez, I’ll put one on your face or something just stoopppp.” His gaze shifts from the clearly okay Au ra kneeling before him and the sisters as his hands try to push Cronus away and make him stand up. “More importantly, we’re supposed to be catching these two up. Or you are. You remember better than me.”
Cronus freezes before rising quickly. “Oh yeah. Your memory is uhh bad. Cause you got bonked. On the head. Totally. Right.” He seems nervous as he turns about hurriedly. “So, first things first, Moogle primal whatever guy is dead, and that’s good news. More good news is, the moogles that summoned him are also ok. All back to normal. Just like you.” Cronus’s eyes are directed at Bia.
Bianchi raises an eye. “Okay like me?”
“Oh. Uh. Bianchi totally got brainwashed. Seemed like it was tempering buuuut since she and the moogles went back to normal as soon as he was gone, we figure it was just something while he was here and not like, legit tempering? I’m really not good at this stuff. You’ll have to talk to Zi about that junk, he knows what he’s talking about.”
“No fucking way.” Bianchi shakes her head. “I wasn’t tempered. I’m not tempered. I’m not trying to summon a giant fluff again what the actual fuck.”
Sepira’s eyes wander for a moment before she nods. “You were… Clearly not yourself.”
Kankri glares. “She aLMOST STABBED ME.”
Cronus purses his lips. “I meeean. Almost. He’s got a new hole in his fancy robes now that I’m hoping you can stitch up later. But seriously. Tried to stab my boyfriend.” Cronus eyes Bianchi. “I know it wasn’t like, you you, but not cool bruh. Not cooool.”
Bianchi shakes her head. “People don’t just get untempered!”
The volume leaves Cronus and Kankri taken aback for a moment. They exchange a glance. “Uhh, Miri got tempered before. And she’s fine.” Cronus gives a small shrug.
“The hell-
Bianchi is cut off as a Lalafell stomps her tiny feet into the room. “I heard my name. You’d better not want another Twelve’sdamned band-aid.”
Cronus motions grandly at the tiny lady. “Thissssss is Miri! Not tempered. Normal girl. Used to be a Garuda thrall but Zi fixed it with some bullshit he won’t explain. So yeah. Untempered. Said you were too. Okay?” His hands raise again as he continues his prior shrug.
Sepira’s brow furrows as she glares. “Make sense or get out.”
“If you can walk you can ask him, he’s down the hall. Stuck in a bed. Damn.” Kankri folds his arms, still eyeing Bianchi.
Sepira waves a hand impatiently. “The giraffe can wait, my chart?” She stares expectantly at her sister, hand extended in wait.
Snapping out of her thoughts, Bianchi turns back toward her. “Uh, E-Sumi-Yan has it. He’d said he wanted to take care of it personally, but when he couldn’t do more than stabilize you he wanted to go check on something in the library and call on the Elder Seedseer for a second opinion.”
Of course he did.
Miri shrugs. “I haven’t really done much here so they didn’t trust me with more than bandages.”
Kankri looks down at the Lalafell. “Guessing you don’t have any ideas what’s wrong then?”
Her head shakes. “Another thing Mister bed-ridden talked about but did his usual nonsense in explaining. If he could put it into actual magic terms I could probably give it a whirl.”
A clamour from down the hall catches Miri’s attention. “Altana’s sake, Zi! Stop giving the guys a hard time and stay in the bed!” The little one stomps angrily from the room back down the hall.
Cronus lets out a sigh. “He’s been on about ‘getting a decent meal’ since he woke up earlier. Apparently doesn’t like Gridanian food. Or sickbay food. Or both. Meh. Just would rather hop on the airship than get some rest.”
Miriel’s voice echoes down the hall as she begins to chide me for trying to escape, and Sepira’s eye twitches. She grumbles and turns about, rising to her feet as best she can. Doing her damndest to keep upright, she makes her way out of the room down the hall to where she spies Miriel glaring into a room. Her legs brush past the Lalafell as she comes into the doorway, grabbing an empty vase from atop a set of drawers near the door before hurling it at my head with surprising accuracy as Silver and Major keep me held to the bed.
The porcelain breaks against my forehead, leaving a long cut that bleeds down the center of my face and showers the pair with small pieces. The impact leaves me speechless for a few moments, the four of us present locking eyes with the shivering mage. “Sleep first, then dream.”
I stare confused. “The fuck?”
She takes a breath, exasperated. “This is the most secure ward in the Stillglade Fane. The chances of you making it out are the same as you finding a decent girlfriend.”
Silver and Major go wide eyed. “OHHHH SHIT SON.”
A glare from Sepira silences the pair, their mouths still wide from the ‘oh’. ”This is a hospital, there are people here trying to recover and I can hear your stupidity clear down the hall.”
Before she could lay down another sick DISS THO (are you actually-YES I AM IT’S WRITTEN) the sound of double doors opening at the end of the hall catches her attention. Behind her, Bianchi utters an “uh oh” as a diminutive woman comes barreling down the hall.
Miriel hops into the room and out of the line of fire, hurrying over to Silver’s side. “She just charged down the hall in high heels!” She whispers up. “I want her to teach me how to do that.”
Silver stares down at the Lalafell. “But you don’t wear heels.”
“I can dream!”
Muffled conversation comes from outside of the room, the trio of voices either talking at once or in responses too close to discern from one another from where I lay.
“Maman please-”
“No, no one lost an arm-
“Always so reckless maman got three grey hairs!
The figure spinning and chatting and squeezing the pair of sisters catches my eye, striking features, porcelain skin, and a brightly colored dress fill my vision as the scent of flowers floats into the room. I lean up toward Major. “Soo who’s the uh. Lovely lady?”
Major shakes his head. “Just a guess here, prooobably their mom.”
Silver grins. “Zi likes someone’s mooom~”
“Dude shut the hell up.” I go to elbow the Roegadyn but he scoots out of reach.
I grumble and cross my arms as the pair snickers. Cronus and Kankri sneak their way past the rabble and back into the room, grabbing a pair of chairs opposite the door.
“So what’s with the chick dragging those two up and down the hall?” Kankri watches as they glide back and forth outside the door.
“Their mom.” Major grins at me, accentuating the word. “Well, probably. I think. I heard Maman stuck in their somewhere so I’m just guessing it’s another word for mom and not a name.” Cronus nods in affirmation.
An older voice catches their attention, bringing the hustle and bustle to a stop. “Marguerite, you’re causing a scene. Clearly if they’re well enough to be walking about, they’re fine.” The clack of wood against stone floor is audible between steps as the older man approaches the trio out of view.
A more hurried set of feet rush over, hugging the girls as Marguerite takes a step toward her father in law, straightening her back as she composes herself, staring him down. “Wiz respect, Père, you and I have very different ideas on what constitutes as ‘fine’.”
“Heeeeyyyyy,” I call from my room. “I feel left out, what’s going on Sep? Bia?”
Shuffling feet hurry to the door, and a rather mousy looking Hyuran stands in the doorway. He seems rather uncomfortable as he notices the number of people in the room staring at him. “Er, my apologies. I, um, my name is Leon- that is, Lord Faremis. Their, their father, yes. Um.” He stands there and gives a hard sniffle, eyes watering slightly. Those of us in the room exchange a glance as the man seems nearly on the verge of tears, though at relief of his daughters’ state or having to speak before us, we aren’t sure. He seems to be specifically avoiding eye contact with me, probably because my forehead is still bleeding. I won’t accept this.
I raise a hand in greeting. “Ziharku Mecru, pleased to meet you Lord Faremis. Perchance, could you toss me some gauze from the drawer by the door for my fountain of a forehead?”
He seems to tremble before he moves to the drawers, pulling it open and nearly dropping the roll back into the drawer several times before offering it over, clearly still too far for me to try and reach. Silver extends a thick arm and takes it gingerly, as though worried the man would shatter for approaching too quickly, then tossed it over. It smacks my cheek.
“Aimed a little lower than she did, buddy.” I pick it up and run some aether over it before pressing a strip to my forehead. I take the rest and run it down my face, smearing blood over it without realizing. With a sigh, Major takes the gauze and keeps wiping until my face is clear. The drops of blood on my sheet and shirt, however, will not be removed so easily.
I take another moment to eye Lord Faremis before he lets out another loud sniffle and decide I’ve had enough of the poor fellow trying to be brave in front of us. “Perhaps, good sir, you could introduce us to the rest of your party? We are...well, I am I guess, a friend of theirs. Though I suppose with the noise I was causing prior to your arrival, Sepira wouldn’t be so quick to admit it.”
The fellow in the doorway snivels and stares at us for a moment longer before the clicking of heels nearly commands the room, his wife gliding in with a whirlwind of color. Her hands come to rest on his arm as sharp blue eyes peer over us. “You are the ones zat brought my Bébés home?”
Surprised at the accent, Major takes a moment to answer. “I. Yes?” His eyes shift before he nods again. Almost to convince himself that he answered correctly.
A manicured eyebrow raises at the odd statement. Then a bit higher as the odd Hyuran simply nods to himself. “I am the Lady Marguerite Faremis, if you would allow me to introduce my father-in-law, his lordship Arcturus Faremis.”
The older fellow follows in her wake, sparing the barest amount of expression as he nods. “Rest assured, your service to house Faremis will be...duly rewarded.”
Major rises from his seat, giving a slight bow. “It would be most welcomed, your lordship.”
I can almost sense the silent groan as Silver rolls his eyes. I clear my throat. “If I could uhh, borrow your ears for a sec.”
Major grimaces in his bow. “Ah, right. That.” He straightens his back again, arms crossing in front of his chest. “While our crystal warrior was...able to keep things from worsening, we found one of your girls in an...interesting state. Has uhh..Sepira’s the shorter one right? Has she been prone to...say...elemental stuff?”
Marguerite’s smile draws thinner as it grows more forced. “Sepira, she has always been… close to the elementals, what the conjurer’s call, a ‘hearer’.”
My cheeks scrunch as my lips purse. “Are hearers usually uhh...angry and floating and filled with elemental energy trying to kill primals with vines?”
A light rap at the door surprises us as guildmaster E-Sumi-Yan eases into the room. “No mister Mecru, no they aren’t. Hearers are simply far more attuned with the elementals in both understanding and ability to communicate with them. They help us keep the elementals at peace, and don’t generally levitate.”
Silver gives a wide grin. “Miiight wanna check on that then. We’ll keep pink-tum here while you make sure the little lady’s still on the ground. Guessing you didn’t see her in the hall then?”
He freezes for a moment before dashing out of the room. “That Girl-”
