assassins creed is so bad for making u feel like your running out of time..... i'm nearly 27 and i haven't even risen to ranks of mentor following a major betrayal 😐

Normally I'm a "canon compliant" kind of fan, but because I hate AC:Valhalla's lore so much, I have decided to be absolutely delulu™ about Mirage. Basim is fine. He defeated his djinn. He knows about Loki but Loki isn't A Thing for him. He's living a totally healthy and normal life as an Assassin and he pets all the cats in Baghdad. Yes he meets Eivor (and Altaïr and Kassandra) at some point but they are ✨best friends✨ and only fight about who pays for food. Enkidu still loves him; Roshan eventually comes back around. None of the convoluted nonsense from Valhalla happens and everyone lives as happily ever after as Assassins possibly can. This is my reality and all of you have to deal with it. 😤

there’s something about hytham before his injury only thinking of himself as a blade—in the golden city revels in his physicality, of his singular, elegant, brutal efficiency as a fighter for the brotherhood. he’s good at killing, he’s pledged himself to a life of killing. he can do anything as long as he someone shows him how, and he learned from the best when it comes to the art of death.

but then he doesn’t have that anymore. his body is a body once again, fully his own, and painful. he doesn’t have the one thing he was very, very good at. he always looked up to the hidden ones as avengers—what use was an avenger who couldn’t fight? and now the failed acolyte stays in the bureau, now it’s the mentor who leaves to investigate, now it’s an outsider who becomes their fighter. once again he is a pretend adoptee of a Viking clan for the sake of eliminating the order.

and he adjusts, slowly, to the work of a rafiq, a translator, a scholar. in the golden city he mentioned how he always was interested in literature but never got the chance because of his training, and now he does. and in this new land with his only connection to the hidden ones, his old life, his family, disappeared, he turns to Ravensthorpe, to Eivor. a new family, and a new hidden ones becomes real—because of him. not basim, who he still looks to, even when there’s only silence given back. and he organizes and eliminates the order with this new family, he builds a new brotherhood when he thought of himself as only a student, a shadow, and a failure. maybe he still does, wonders what basim would think, wonders even when he should hate him for his betrayal, wonders if he’ll ever be okay with not knowing why he did or how little it mattered to basim in the end—not just the hidden ones but hytham himself. but he still keeps going, because the furious righteousness of when he was a blade is still there, but now he gives it to other people, that faith, like basim gave to him, and that’s what he holds on to.

hytham isn’t a failure because of his disability. it’s his strength, his foundation for his new life and connection and family and love.
