More squishies!! Oh man, this hitohada gel is giving me such a headache. It's very difficult to work with in cold temperatures. I'd rather not go into a ton of detail here because I'm tired, but I've had so much difficulty getting it to cure properly. I know it isn't user error because all of my castings in warmer months worked perfectly, and it's highly unlikely that someone of my experience would suddenly consistently start mixing everything wrong, to the tune of 5 times in a row. It's got to be temperature/humidity, but despite my best efforts, I cannot seem to control for those. Anyway, enjoy this pile of squishy cats. They aren't painted yet, but they're too cute not to share! I love working with multiple colors of resin, so I made some siamese cats and some more calicos to replace the ones I sold at Zap. It's fun to add the dyed resin to the molds and see how the patterns come out! The siamese are pretty set, but I get a lot more variation with the calicos. I'm out of hitohada gel, but when I get more, I'm looking forward to trying out some new markings! All that aside, do I have 4 more resin kits coming in the mail? Yes. Will I be making more cats, bees, corgis, and !!!!! FLAMING CORGIS once the weather warms up? Double yes. ZWEI?! 🔥🔥🔥 I've been wanting to make flaming Zweis for AGES. March was very difficult for me, so despite being pretty overwhelmed, I took a self care day and sculpted, since that was a way for me to do something soothing and still be productive. My suffering has become your joy, because Flaming Zwei was born! As with all my charms, Flaming Zwei was hand sculpted in polymer clay (I use Fimo) and baked. I then made several molds using silicone rubber from @smoothon and cast 5 Zweis at a time in epoxy resin. While Flaming Zwei is not a complicated sculpt, he is much larger than most of my charms (2" instead of 1") because I wanted the pieces to be thick enough if I chose to make squishies (I may not be able to because of the high material cost), and the mold is very complicated. Flaming Zwei is cast in opaque white (body) and transparent orange and yellow (fire) resin. Because of the number of colors and the undercuts in the mold, each mold must be held together with 3 rubber bands while curing. After curing, each corgi is lovingly demolded, painted, and sealed. It takes about 40 minutes to create a single Flaming Zwei. If you'd like your own, I'll have them at Animinneapolis and Anime Midwest, or you can buy one from me directly. They are not on Etsy. If you've been keeping up with my story, then you know I've recently gotten into making squishies! These squishies are made from hitohada gel, which is a urethane resin. Fun fact: "hito" is Japanese for human, and "hada" is Japanese for skin. This is literally "human skin gel," which I find endlessly hilarious. Hitohada gel is a urethane resin with a 3:1 mix ratio. It can be colored with @smoothon So-Strong dyes, but there are dyes made for hitohada gel. This bee was just a test (and made from a mold that failed due to overuse, hence why she looks a little weird), but I am very pleased with her! Her fuzzy texture and the veining on her wings is still visible. Her antennae and some of her legs didn't come out quite right, but I wasn't really careful when I filled the mold. I wasn't sure if the test would work and thought the hitohada gel might even bond to the mold, so I didn't bother with removing all the bubbles. She is painted with DecoArt So Soft fabric paint. One tutorial I saw suggested acrylic paint mixed with PVA glue (these are white glues), but that didn't work for me. The paint cracked instantly. I don't know if that's because I was using cheap quality products or not, but the fabric paint worked perfectly. It's the same paint I use to paint knits and spandex. I've also seen that you can use chalk pastels to color squishies.
