- Milky Way Marsh- I finally received the new Nikon 20mm 1.8s lens and this thing is sharp corner to corner even wide open at 1.8! I had a chance to test it out on a short road trip to North Carolina and Virginia which didn't go as planned. I really wanted to car camp the Outer Banks, however that was off limits to non-locals so I had to figure out a backup plan. After checking a dark skies map for light pollution in the area I found a Mackay Wildlife Refuge. I could only find 1 MW photo online of the location so I was nervous about compositions there, but excited to explore a new place that hasn't been saturated with night photographers. After driving around the area I came across this hidden gem! Thanks to @foolography for the remote trigger used in this shot (timelapse coming soon). TIME LAPSE EXIF: Nikon Z6 14-24 2.8s at 16mm ISO 2000 F3.2 Shutter 15 seconds which changed as it turned to twilight (750 frames) Night to day time lapse made easier when the unleashed trigger / app by @foolography - Montauk Milky Way & @spacex Falcon 9 Launch While I wasn't quick enough to get a real time video of the SpaceX launch, I at least had a time lapse running! It happens very quick due to my long exposure, but I was still glad to have caught it! For those who are wondering about the low iso of 2000, this is a tricky lighthouse to photograph. The lights on the surrounding structures are extremely bright so I had to under expose the time lapse and then adjust the sky in post to try and pull detail out of the milky way while trying to keep the lights under control. Looking back at this photo I took in May I can remember how heavy my backpack was for that hike. On top of lugging out all my camera gear to shoot 2 time lapses as well still images (including a tracker), I had to carry out the camping gear so I can take a nap under the arch. My main goal was to show a sense of scale by standing under the arch with my tent. Last time I was there was about 7 years ago and I didn't capture the size of this arch in my photo, nor did I have the skills for quality night photography. It was surreal revisiting a place I went to on my first cross country road trip and sleeping under the stars there...
