I don't have time to draw in digital...in the meantime I'll draw in my notebook hehehe... maybe I'll end up answering several requests in ink and paper, it's better than taking me a thousand years to answer a "hello". Hehehe
I absolutely adore Juliusz especially in this chapter. I just know Eva and Juliusz would get along like a house on fire if they existed in the same au lol.
One question though, has Juliusz discovered the writings of Franz Kafka yet because he seems like he'd love Kafka (despite him being German)
Oh i'm SURE he's a sucker for Kafka, as far as i know, The Trial was released the same year season 4 takes place, so i can imagine he got his hands on it as soon as he could add it to his bookshelf. I feel like he'd enjoy Methamorphosis as well (and the Castle DEFINETLY, but that wasn't relased until the 30's as far as i remember). [Modern AU but his whole pinterest board is just nerd shit and the occasional meme like this:
The dude knows german pretty well (thank the Austrian occupation of southern Poland for that) so i can imagine Juliusz getting his hands on some untranslated german literature to keep his skill sharp, despite not really needing the language anymore.
And yeeeeeeeesss i can imagine him and Eva would have an interesting dynamic to say the least! Julek would definetly hold a great deal of respect for her (maybe with more than a dash of intimidation, but he'd never admit it) and appreciate her wits.
You know, I don't think I'll ever be happy with a single design for Comet, she is old enough to be the inspiration for my Comet usernames, but I'm never happy with a single design. Her current one is the most recent and the only one I posted, but I changed it thousands of times throughout her existence, and I already feel like changing again. OC in constant methamorphosis.
In the night, in the silence, looking for the light.
I shot this image in early February, during the full moon, in the Appenines in Italy.
May the new year be one in which you sometimes pause for a moment, looking and wondering. Thank you for following me and for your interest in my work.
I would like to thank everyone who purchased work from me last year, that is a huge appreciation!
Have a wonderful Christmas and a happy New Year with those you love!
no shoujo manga no life etc but even tho i very much enjoy literally every typical shoujo beat, themes, events, long etc, i cant help but notice more and more how the ideas of fashion/trendyness, make-up and weight loss are so intrinsically tied with the idea of 'love' and 'growth' and 'trying hard for ur partner/s/o’ in a way thats... tbh incredibly insidious, especially since most of the time its framed in a cutesy way. like... i get it, trust me. i get the meaning behind it. its about methamorphosis. its a conceptual/visual methaphor to show how a character is making changes on the inside (which manifest outwardly). the occidental version of this wud be the (infamous) classic ‘glow up’/’makeover’ scenes in romance movies (which has already been discussed and dissected, and deservedly so, infinite times)
but the thing is.. when theres an entire chapter dedicated to the weight loss of an already skinny character (and btw, the conclusion is, in fact, that you absolutely should not get fatter if you respect yourself), or multiple plot points feeding into the idea that not putting ‘enough’ effort in the way you look is immature (a notion that makes sense from a societal point of view, tbh. but its such a complex matter that when its simply glossed over it just ends up sounding...bleak, in my opinion), or whole ARCS about unkept 15 y/o girls who didnt give a fuck abt her own appearence are now self-conscious and thats good actually..... well that just sucks, you know
maybe its not all (most of it, at least) as in-your-face as im making it sound, but still. its.. its bad dude. obviously i wud not love shoujo manga as much as i do if it always were so fucking cringe. the genre has so many beautiful stories to offer. so many lovable characters with immense growth, and actually very complex & difficult themes that it explores in very nuanced and mature ways!!!!!!!!! its just that i dont rly agree with the way a loooot of them handle the topic of beauty standars (for young girls and women especially).
like, 4 ex im reading this cute af story which could have been handle very poorly in the wrong hands, since it deals with toxic behaviours in romantic relationships. but its. so fucking well done?? it explores all the gray areas in suchhhhh a respectful way, and never sacrificing the heart-warming feel/overall positiveness of the series.. but when it comes to the topic i previously mentioned? i feel it lacks a bit of.. deconstruction, i guess its the word?
Just because I like the concept, here is the caterpillar-butterfly-dragon again !
Forgotten tales said that such creatures are born when a chrysalis refuses to lose the child part of them during their methamorphosis into a butterfly. They seem to always have a playfull behavior and live longer than a caterpillar or a butterfly. Some said that they bring luck
At uni, I had this test that consisted in analysis of some iconography of mythology, basically.
I did kinda well, especially on a painting of the methamorphosis of Daphnee. I thought it was quite easy but I just had to say all I knew about the myth and what I was seeing on the oeuvre, you know ?
My professor wrote "excellent answer" on it. Why thank you, sir. I feel like a scam. Here's the truth : the secret of my success is my love on Apollo only. So congrats to him.
He's nailing my semester.
(A very good day to you by the way, I wish you very much love and success :))
I'm gonna say congrats to you because you did the work, my friend! You're def not a scam! And I think the one nailing your semester is you with some assistance from Apollo. So congrats to you on doing an amazing job, sweetie! <3
