Repost @joshuamchughphotograph 2- La maison d'Elaine à Galilea, Majorque, en Espagne, était remplie de poteries, d'assemblages qu'elle a réalisés, d'art populaire et d'œuvres d'art d'amis. On voit ici une sérigraphie de Sonia Delaunay. Elle et son mari Arthur ont rencontré Sonia au début des années 60 et Arthur a écrit une monographie sur sa vie. Et un Mel Bochner qui était également un ami proche. Il a fait ceci pour elle un été où il louait la maison voisine. 3-The Croaked Moon, 1985 acrylique sur toile 65" x 60". Cette peinture était l'une de ses préférées et a été accrochée dans le salon d'Elaine pendant de nombreuses années. 4- @elainelustigcohen Ex Campeon, 1980, 30" x 22", Collage sur papier. Elaine a trouvé le matériel pour les collages de cette série lors de ses voyages d'été dans sa maison à Majorque, en Espagne. Il s'agissait d'affiches électorales qu'elle trouvait sur les murs de l'île. Elle parcourait l'île avec un seau rempli d'eau et les décollait. Mel Bochner (b.1940) is primarily known as a ‘conceptual artist’ – yeah well, what does that even mean?!

‘Conceptual Art’ is art in which the concept(s) or idea(s) involved in the work take precedence over traditional aesthetic, technical, and material concerns – for many people this can be a confounding premise for art. And we can quickly get into the weeds with historical precedent, artists, specific artworks, and nuance

“Shortly after moving to New York City in 1964, he became involved in two of the major movements of the period--minimal art, which was already being developed by artists such as Donald Judd, Dan Flavin, and Sol LeWitt, and conceptual art, a then-nascent movement of which Bochner would become a key figure. In 1966 he organized the exhibition Working Drawings And Other Visible Things On Paper Not Necessarily Meant To Be Viewed As Art at the School of Visual Arts, New York--a show that is now considered to be one of the first conceptual art exhibitions.” National Gallery of Art

These two prints are from the 1980’s when Bochner was creating shaped canvases with an internal ‘ricochet’. Ricochets that created shapes within rectangular canvases, and large multi-color works mounted directly to the wall.

Bochner’s work is in the collections of the @metmuseum @centrepompidou @tate @modernamuseet and others.
